In case you doubted: PSX will be an annual event from now on

Please hold it in Los Angeles or Orange County California. Anaheim Convention Center next to Disneyland would be a nice location!

If they keep this event fan oriented with annoucements of lower profile games for enthusiastic fans like this year it will be nice addition to E3/Gamescom/TGS

I hope they move the location year to year. Would definitely go if it was in Florida. Also would be neat if it was a global type of event with other regions doing a similar thing... although I guess Japan really wouldn't have enough stuff for anything somewhat grand like this.
Yes, Tampa or Orlando please.

It could also cause more pressure. Gotta have stuff ready to show twice a year now instead of once.

Maybe not, devs seem to repeat old stuff for ages, other parts of the same build at different times and a milestone build could probably replace an old build along the way. They could always fall back on behind the scenes snippets, teasers etc. I don't think any of them will kneecap development to show multiple demos throughout the year.

I will take it as a good sign that they feel they have enough to announce every December after we've already had E3, Gamescom, TGS, and more PAX events than I can count. There must be a lot of good stuff in the pipeline.

Good news. More key events for us to look forward to each year is a good thing.

E3 is becoming less and less relevant each year it seems.

No surprised but it's a good move. More events to spread out announcements as well as letting people go hands on with games are always a good thing. It probably does a great job of getting substantial news covering the PS4 in the lead up to the holidays

That's cool. Essentially 2 big conferences 6 months apart (E3 and PSX), plus TGS and Gamescom.

Didn't Microsoft have something similar ages ago? Like X1 or something.

Sony now needs something for late march/early April and they will have winter spring Summer and fall covered! Fall twice as hard :o

Nintendo needs a guaranteed big event each year around this time, like the Fall Conference they used to have and haven't since 2011. 2012 was close but was called the Wii U Preview Event.

Directs are great, but they need a concentrated event to really unload the announcements at. Other than E3, we've barely had anything all-new from Nintendo so far other than Majora's Mask 3D.

Nintendo goes to literally every single event across the country to demo their games and who them off

They went to Gamescom, the event in europe, all the Pax events even flipping comic con and E3 last year and they co hosstedd the TGAs

They cant spend all this money or they wont post a profit!!

I would totally go to a Nintendo expo.

I would too but money.

No it won't impact E3. A show at the end of the year makes perfect sense. Games in 1H get full and final coverage before release(this was a good show for Bloodborne and especially The Order) while titles a bit further down the road have small teasers and then full reveals at E3.

It's like having Summer CES and Winter CES again, glorious. Didn't MSFT use to do a Jan thing back in the day too?
They actually have an Xbox event in January if I remember right.

Anyhow tho this is cool on Sony. Like others are saying tho I'd like to see them try it at different cities and even countries with each one.

Disagreed. Only a tiny sliver of a fraction of the world's population would have the ability to attend such an event, and for the rest of the world it's just like watching an E3 press conference. I actually prefer the way Nintendo are doing things with their Directs right now. There just needs to be more of them. Instead of burning a ton of money on logistics and accommodation for a single event, why not make more frequent and elaborate Directs, an even more elaborate E3 next year, and spend the remainder of the money on greater presence at already existing trade shows? Oh, and why not bring the Treehouse crew along and stream stuff? Yes, anyone can stream, but no one is really doing at the Treehouse @ E3 level yet. So it's worth doing.

Nintendo already did some really cool stuff together with Mega64 and the Robot Chicken guys for last year's E3. I guess I'd like them to continue on that path, and not fall back on the old conference format (which honestly feels a little dated at this point).

There's a direct every month and a half at this point LOL

I would openly welcome these sort of events over E3 if the Big 3 all held one. PSX felt more focused, more gamer-oriented, and more professional than any hokey E3 showing.

I think Sony is the only one with enough content to justify a major presence at four conferences like this (E3, GC, TGS, now PSX).

Nintendo lacks the third party content and Microsoft lacks the first party content. Nintendo's Directs cover their in-house stuff, and Microsoft can fit most of what they have into E3.

And I'm imprimpressed Sony drew so many attendees at PSX. The new crew at SCE have made the PlayStation brand stronger than ever, an impressive feat given the hit it took from 06-08. They've really turned things around.

Cities should be able to put in bids a-la the Olympics.

Just imagining Nintendo doing their own version, Spaceworld for a new generation

It's a good idea to have to at that time of the year. 6 months out from E3, and a chance to get people excited for the upcoming year.

It is a great idea. Just move it to the beginning of November. That way they can announce Black Friday bundles on a big stage ahead of Black Friday and get good media presence ahead of that.

I really like it though. If they have a keynote ahead of the event every year, it can be like another little E3 for people.

Good move on Sony's part.

Ah, so they're probably saving the TLG reveal for PSX 2015. Was wondering why they failed to show it, like this event was the perfect opportunity. 21 years of Playstation has a better ring to it anyway.

While I like the game-specific Directs that they do, we only got two general Directs (February/November) and the E3 Digital Event this year. It definitely felt like something's lacking, but maybe it's just me :P.

Conventions for companies that make hardware is weird to me. Does Apple have a convention?

Why does "hardware" make it weird? And yes, Apple has several. WWDC at the least if you don't count the assorted announcement keynotes as conventions.

I hope it is every year in Vegas.

I understand why other cities would want it, but Vegas is a great place for conventions, multiple hotels are designed specifically for huge generic conventions, and if you've gotta fly out to somewhere vegas is a pretty decent place to do it.

Yeah, it works well for their PR cycle to have a big event in Q4, given that all the other big gaming events are in Q2/Q3.
