In-N-Out's reclusive 34-year-old heiress reveals shocking details about her family and relationships

The famously reclusive 34-year-old heiress to In-N-Out's fortune has offered rare insight into her personal life in a new video.

Lynsi Snyder, the billionaire president of the California-based burger chain and granddaughter of its founders, discusses her four marriages, the death of her father, and her past drug use in the 10-minute video, which was posted Wednesday to the website IAmSecond.com.

She said her father, Guy Snyder, battled drug addiction and was in and out of rehab facilities from the time she was five years old. He later had an affair, and her parents divorced when she was 12.

"It was really hard for me to see him fail and be weak because I knew how bad he wanted to be a good husband and good father," she said.

Around the same time, in 1993, her father took control of In-N-Out from his brother, who died in a plane crash.
Her father led the company until he died of a prescription-drug overdose in 1999.

"My world shattered," she said. "After my dad died there was no way I was going to be alone."
Immediately following his death, Snyder married her first husband when she was 18 years old.
"It wasn't right," she said. "I paid the price with a divorce and jumped right into the arms of someone else."

Then she said she started smoking pot and abusing alcohol. "At that point I pretty much realized I'm the outcast in the family," she said. "I figured I'm divorced — I might as well embrace this."

She said she worried she would "meet an early death" like her father, and eventually she got married again, had two children, and later had an affair. The marriage dissolved within six years, she said.

She married for a third time and had another child with a man she claims married her for money and cheated on her for nearly four years before they divorced.

"The first time he cheated on me I thought, 'Well I deserve it,'" she said. "It was terrible."

Now, at age 34, she says she is remarried and has finally found peace through religion.

Snyder's grandparents opened the first In-N-Out in 1948. She inherited 50% of the In-N-Out's shares when she turned 30.

On her 35th birthday in May of this year, she'll get the remaining 50%, making her one of the wealthiest women in the US.

In-N-Out, which has 318 restaurants in six states, has been valued at $1.1 billion.

In and out of rehab huh? Makes sense.

Just ate a burger their yesterday. Meat was smaller than the bun.

Chopped chili's inside when they make it for you is sooo good

Wow, that sounded rough. Especially when she blamed herself for her asshole husband's infidelity.

And only fucking 34? I'm glad she's got it together. She should be a damn sage in her 60s.

in n out is one of the best fast food chains to work for. Their starting employees have full benefits and a 401k. They start at 12.50/hr and have regular raises as they move through the ranks.

From what I know, you can only be a manager (making 100k+) if you started at a basic position in the company. Every manager has done every position.

It's interesting to learn about the high levels of in n out. I had no clue. Wish the best for her. That family is one that treats employees pretty damn well, IMO.

Ive known several people who've experienced that kind of history and trauma, including my mom. They've never allowed themselves breathing room to figure out their own identities. I can't recall them not being in relationships or marriages at any point in their adult lives and a lot of those relationships are dysfunctional. Its sad and I can't untangle the mental and emotional side of those personal issues.

Hopefully she has found a lasting peace. Can't imagine being the head honcho of a beloved restaurant and the fear of having all these people trying to get a piece.

Makes me want to go there even more than i already did.

I worked for Costco in college and will always respect the way they treat their employees as well.

Love In-N-Out, the burgers are amazing the service is fast and the employees are always nice and respectful. Sounds like this woman had a rough early life and eventually found peace good for her.

No idea about the family troubles of the owners. Wild stuff.

I'm a huge in N out fan and miss it living in the north east. Such a dainty, classy little hamburger. I don't feel horrible about myself after eating one.

Is she a billionaire for owning 50% of the shares of a company valued at $1.1 billion? Or is she already wealthy enough as a result of the restaurant's history that it extends beyond "worth"?

I don't know how things are now but I remember when Obamacare began people's hours were cut to 30 hours to avoid medical coverage stuff. The pay rate is great compared to other fast foods.
It might not be true but supposedly a devoted employee was given ownership of an in n out store.

Ashhong it was significantly smaller than other times. Still good anyway.

Yeah it was a Christian family. Revelation 3:20
John 3:16 and Nahum... Are on the food wrappers.

Also the reason for the x crossed palm trees is someone loved some movie or something like that.

If they already provided medical care why does Obamacare affect them? Other then the annual blame all cost increases on Obamacare. Even though we increased the cost every year before Obamacare existed.

Of course a (contemporary, western) Christian family has a history of divorce, neglect and trying to get out of providing health insurance.

Crossed palm trees would likely be a reference to It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.

That's a tough life. Privileged lives can be tough.

Reminds me of my cousin. My uncle cheated on his wife with his daughter's friend (his daughter being my cousin) when my cousin was 17 and the friend 18. His wife found out and killed herself by overdose. My uncle left the kids (17 year old girl, 15 year old girl, 13 year old boy) to fend for themselves with their inheritance from their mother (which wasn't much). The 17 year old had to basically raise the others until the boy was 18.

Needless to say, my cousin's relationships with men have been an utter train wreck in the 30 years since. She simply can't trust anyone. Multiple divorces, unplanned pregnancies, issues raising her kids properly, drug abuse... and this is a doctor, an intelligent person.

Family turmoil can fuck someone up long-term.

EDIT: And when you ask her why she became a doctor she'll tell you because it was what her dad wanted and she still wanted to make him proud of her, and still thinks about that now that he's dead. Can't even imagine that kind of dissonance rattling around my brain, it's insane.

Everytime I visit my sister in LA or Bro in Law in AZ -> In-n-out for breakfast lunch and dinner! Goddamn I love that place.

It so fucking cheap too!!!

Very interesting story. Apropros of nothing, In n Out opened its first location on the las vegas strip itself inside the Linq this week, its pretty much printing money. They have a dozen or so locations around the vegas valley for the past decade or two but this is the first on the actual strip for tourists.

Its my absolute go to meal when I am jonesing for a burger; a double double animal style protein style (wrapped in lettuce instead of a bun) is so satisfying and under $4.

I do wonder about the religious stuff, while its not that overt they do have some bible quotes and stuff around. They are open on sundays though, a few Mormon run places around here close on sundays for the sabbath, including a place mainly focused on breakfast which I always found weird.

Damn, 4 marriages by the time she was 34.

A lot of hardcore Christians don't look too fondly on divorces and from the sounds of it she has some codependency / daddy isues as well so I'm not surprised.

But yeah, you make all this money and you've been through three divorces already, one of which you knew was for money.

That's rough.

I thought the family that owned In-N-Out was super religious?

All of In N Out's cups have the bible verses inscribed on them.
This is the extent of what most people see for religion where it's concerned though.

After Harry Snyder succumbed to lung cancer in 1976, his son, Richard Snyder, became In-N-Out ‘s president and CEO. At the time, due to Harry’s insistence of strict quality control, there were only 18 locations; throughout the 1980s, the franchise saw considerable expansion.

It was during this time, in 1987, that Richard, a born-again Christian, ordered biblical verses be printed on the company’s wrappers and cups. “He told me, ‘It’s just something I want to do,’” a company spokesman recalled of the decision in a 2005 interview , “and that was that.” The verses remained unobtrusively subtle, merely indicated by their book and number (ie. “Proverbs 3:5”), and appeared in four places:

Considering this video was shot for use as a religious recruitment tool, I'd say that's probably the case.

Huh, ate there for the first time in October, didn't even notice that.

Crazy that a 34 year old billionaire heiress was completely not taught ways to navigate life by her parent's while happening to be the one grandchild that got 100% of the company.

She got married at 18 ffs and someone pulled a Chappelle being Oprah's baby's daddy on her.

Yes. I dated a corporate lawyer whose colleague was hired by In-and-Out. This guy was rockstar lawyer hired for well above six figures. He had to work in a restaurant for a stint of time.
