I've wondered before if Tokyo Syndrome is a thing in the way Paris Syndrome is. Some people seem to have this idea of Japan as a utopia for them. But like anywhere else it's going to have its drawbacks alongside its advantages. If people build it up for so long as being perfect do they then struggle with experiencing the reality?

It's definitely a thing with western weebs and otakus that think Japan is as obsessed with Anime as they are, but that's further from the truth. It's looked down over there as an Adult.

I have lived in Tokyo for 1 1/2 years back in 2003/2004 for work.
In the beginning, it's exactly like you expected, or even a lot of crazier.
But when you start to live a normal life there, it dawns on you that shit is different than you thought, and that all that weeb stuff is usually for losers over there...
No quality woman would want to have something to do with you when you are an "Otaku"/Anime/weeb/whatever.
My girlfriend told me, that normally the ugly girls tend to get into that culture, so they can have at least some kind of boyfriend.

I used to have a phase like that where I thought everything Japanese was cool. Then I got bored by how formulaic anime was becoming, plus I read up on what an otaku lifestyle entailed.
I still like anime and Japanese media, but I don't hold it on such a high pedestal anymore.

What's the problem? Sure, he could definitely respect his body a bit more, but that's something a good diet and training can fix fairly easily. He has good taste in Anime. EVA is awesome. Not particularily a fan of the rest of his Anime decoration, but oh well.
