So I narrowed my choices down to Sir You Are Being Hunted, Legend of Dungeon, or some other unexpected release or Early Access game.

I realized my specs can't run Betrayer, I can wait for Shelter, and I'll wait for games like Electronic Super Joy to go on sale.

Any impressions of Legend of Dungeon?

It's fun with every playthrough that i've done. Lightning effects are great and the monsters from other games (or even tv series) and the countless of hats are a nice touch. The multiplayer is only local though and navigating your items is a little lacking sometimes if you quickly need to find a potion or weapon.

Thanks. I crossed SYABH off the list till I get a better computer so it's down to definitely Legend plus either Shelter or some other surprise release/Early Access game.

I was chatting with the dev on the forums and he said that the game is "first and foremost a single player experience." I was worried that the co-op would be the primary focus a la Left 4 Dead. How does the game feel while playing solo? Cause I'm never going to touch co-op

When starting up Electronic Super Joy, a screen warns that the game "may cause seizures! Also, cause motion sickness!" and that's not hyperbole. Electronic Super Joy is at once a psychedelic visual experience and a tough-as-nails platformer.

The surreal landscape spawns trees and other scenery as you approach, the environment is alive with strobing lights and moving colors, all while electronic music and orgasmic moaning plays in the background. The paper thin story is as surreal as the graphics: it's quite simple, you're on a quest to rescue your butt. The game is never static, even the levels are in constant motion.

Each level automatically scrolls left to right, adding a sense of urgency not seen in other platformers. You only have seconds to evaluate what obstacles lay ahead. The controls are simple: arrow keys to move, Z to jump, X to butt smash (also useful for quickly landing a jump and gaining a precious extra second) but are more than capable of overcoming the myriad challenges. Lasers, portals, blade turrets, jump pads, one-use jump pads, swarms of missiles (which follow you relentlessly and can pass through the environment), spinning blades, rotating levels, bosses, and other hazards all stand between you and the exit. You will die, that's for sure, but there are checkpoints and auto restarts give the game a "one more go" appeal that only the best platformers can provide.

The game's pixel art style is simple but plays smoothly and I doubt any modern computers will have trouble running it. Electronic Super Joy is quite literally a joy to play. If you're a fan of Super Meat Boy or other challenging platformers, I think you'll definitely enjoy this game.

The Floor is Jelly - Who honestly hasn’t dreamed of filling a swimming pool with jello? I mean, it would probably result in a horrible, painful lungs-slowly-filling-with-jello-death, but it sounds awesome otherwise, right? Thankfully, we have video games to answer these kinds of questions for us lest we try them ourselves. The guy made some cool games before, like IGF Nuovo finalist Feign and its spiritual succesor 13 Gates.

Chester United - Chester United is a complete overhaul of the game Chester: a 2D platformer with over 10 unlockable characters and 8 styles, that you could change on the fly. These styles changed the entire look of the game and granted unique bonuses.

Dream Room - A gem glittering in the dark. Click the link for a lovely animation.

Dysbiosis - An intestinal bacteria Shoot Em Up, combining fun gameplay and accurate scientific learnings in a format which is easily understood.

Legend of the Knightwasher - A RPG where you play as a brave washer with a lance. Yeah, that's right, the one you put your filthy stuff in it, holdin' a medieval weaponry. At least there's no need for armor.

Fabula Mortis - FP-shooter with weapons inspired by steampunk and designed to wreak havoc.

The game is also very short, I finished in about 3.5 hours doing some of the optional puzzles.

So just learned about Rawbots and Mobiloid

Rawbots is on sale for 9.99, Mobiloid is 9.99.

Has anyone played these? Any impressions? Rawbots looks really complex and unique.

I can't get Rawbots to run well at all. I got it from a bundle a while back and it just chuggs on my machine. It's a shame cos it looks kinda fun, sorta reminds me of this Star Wars droid building game I played on my PC when I was a young'un.

MOTHERFUCKING STUN LOCK! There's not many times I feel buyer remorse. So here I did. Great Shank-style cartoony art. Everything else, ehhhhh. I checked the developer team, and they're mostly artists than programmers. Very stilted controls. For this kind of action game, input response is key and it's just too delayed. There's fun in performing crazy combos. But THAT MOTHERFUCKING STUN LOCK! I've never played a non-fighting game with such bad stun lock, it's rage quit inducing. The block is useless. The guns are useless. You can't just get back up with an invincibility frame, you pretty much have to roll out of the way immediately. The hitboxes just feel wrong. There's tons of screen tearing and no V-sync option which is baffling for a PC-exclusive game. If there's going to be a Steam release, there needs to be a lot of tweaking.

You eventually get to use other characters as support, and I like that more because it's less me actually controlling the main character. Oh wait, I forgot to mention the horrible voice acting and super cliched antihero western revenge story writing. Changing the characters to anthromorphic animals doesn't change how generic the story is. I'm obviously going to suffer more because I paid for it but also I just want to get to that awesome looking gorilla boss in the first screenshot I saw for this.

After seeing Patrick Klepek play it on Worth Playing, I checked it out myself. My favourite of this bunch. Art style reminds me of Braid. The art and animations are gorgeous. Unlike Dusty Revenge, here the gameplay is actually fun too to go along with the great presentation. What I love is that the cute robot spiders don't hurt (directly), because usually through gaming instinct you'd have them marked as goombas.
There's not much of a tutorial, but here it works where it's more show than tell. After the quite challenging boss, you get the dash ability which is awesome. If there are more abilities as interesting in the full game, I can't wait.

First-person bike sports game. Zero tutorial, and can't see control options. Well, it is Russian-developed who don't seem to like accessibility Once I actually got riding (much harder than you expect), I was never able to catch up to the rest of the riders. The sense of speed is great. I love the concept. I just have no idea how to do anything.

You get to play as the computer that controls a space station. And you get to fuck with humans. Even if you try to be good, it replays to make sure you're doing the HAL-9000 routine. If you're into torturing humans but only through text adventure games, go for it.

Tile puzzle game with nice presentation, but I'd rather play this on a phone. It's a head-scratcher because of its unique concept, so if you're into that, give it 10 min or so.

How many games let you play as a lab inventor type? It's basically 2D Portal, as you can see in the gifs. Also, you get to kill monkey robots in a bloody display. I just wanted to call out, best map design EVER in a Metroidvania style game. If you're stuck, there is a hint system that you pay with points and the game takes over for the solution. I'm tempted to buy the full game.

Yeah seems like a no-brainer. Third person shooters are alright with M/KB, but controlling a badger with WASD doesn't sound as good compared to an analog stick.

BTW, Patrick Klepek's playing of the preview was very relaxing.

So I've been playing for about a day and I'm really enjoying it. I don't have it feels as a co op game, but as a single player game, the sense of tension and fear of the unknown is there. The pixel art style is wonderful and the lighting/shadows give the game a very atmospheric feel

Regarding gameplay, the combat itself is simple but I like that you can't swing wildly. Well you could, but I've found that it's best to time your strikes and consider your reach, prioritize enemies, etc. Also it seems there's some kind of line of sight system (?) because enemies won't notice when you're behind them, which is great because it allows for some more strategic decisions

Only made to level 4 so far (never foolishly approach a Grim Reaper wondering what will happen), but the game is a lot of fun.

My main concerns are:
- Needs some kind of tutorial message, could be just one of the tavern NPCs saying something when you approach them. Unless I missed it, there were no screens detailing he controls.

- Inventory needs improving. Again, unless I missed it, there's no way to reorder your items and scrolling through them is very annoying mid combat. I mean the current method could wworks as a quick select but maybe implement an inventory overlay (that doesn't pause the game) where we can more easily equip and compare items. And hotkeys would be useful

- Maybe some more dungeon variety would be cool. It hasn't really gotten that repetitive yet, especially since I haven't played that much, but maybe some rooms/areas could be more overgrown or in ruins or be littered with corpses, stuff like that. Maybe stuff like that is already in the game, idk. But some more visual variety would add to the sense of exploration and discovery.

Anyway, can't wait to see how the game evolves and expands in the future

I haven't confirmed yet and I'm not sure it has already been discussed, but I was talking with the developer of Mobiloid on Facebook and he said:

the game is coming out on IndieGameStand when they open their shop next week (I think), and it's gonna be 20% off! (it may be a beta version of the shop, though).

Had anyone heard about such a feature being implemented on IGS? Not sure if they were trying to keep it a secret...

Not really.. too much competition, too high a risk for layoffs/budget cuts.

I've always been interested in what goes into making games and I'm one semester away from obtaining an AAS in SGD. I'll probably make some stuff for fun but being realistic about the job market.

That being said, Epic Games isn't that that far away provided they're hiring
