Indie Games [September] Now Voting - Post 878!

Probably not going to have a chance to play until tomorrow. Between this and Godus, this week hurts.

The whole year hurts. At first, I was like it is okay I can afford buying indie games. Now that I have bought a ton so far, I don't know, maybe there are too many of them for my purse.

"Alpha means the game is still in a very early state, and we do not have many of our major features implemented! What the game will look like in this state is a single (randomly generated) level, with a few agents and little to no progression. The current Alpha build has most of our core tactical and strategic systems, as well as our engine, UI, procedural generation and so on, but is missing some major progression systems and missing most of our content, which will be developed as we get further along in the process. We do have a timeline for some of these features, so we'll share that with you when we can."

Then it is easier for me to avoid spending more.

Incognita, the turn-based strategy game, is now avalible for alpha access. $20 and includes an extra key. This is from the Mark of the Ninja and Don't Starve dev, so it should be good.

I'm going to dive in, will post some impressions later.

Damn, I feel like they only announced this a month or so ago. Looking forward to the impressions.

Excited to hear how this one is! This genre does not get enough love. Apparently without the soundtrack it's $17. Maybe someone will want to split it?

Alright, I played a couple of rounds. Haven't gotten very far yet. This is pretty early alpha, if you guys want to hold of a bit until there's more content, it wouldn't be the worst idea.

What I have played seems really promising. Randomized levels + action points makes it feel more like old X-Com with a new Xcom interface.

But really not much to it right now. They dump you into a level with two agents, and that's it. Really looking forward to watching it get iterated on, though. Will play a bit more tomorrow to give it a better run.

This game sounds very very promising. Just read RockPaperShotgun's article and, well...
You’re a suit-bound diver whose underwater vessel has lost some rather important bits, so you’ve got to reassemble your achy breaky craft and just, well, survive. Good luck with both, however, as crushing depths are not kind to the easily popped jelly balloons we call bodies, and you’ll have to contend with increasing water pressure, decreasing temperature, and more survival factors (in addition to sharks, giant monster wheel things, and extremely mean jellyfish) along the way.
---
An unexpected encounter leaves you trapped in an underwater world. Your only chance to regain the surface is to re-build your vessel.
Explore the deepness of the Ocean to retrieve the parts you need to repair your underwater vessel. Beware of the lurking dangers and choose the right moment to head to the surface.

- Explore the ocean from the top seabed to the oppressive abyss in a randomly generated open-world.
- Improve your suit to face depth conditions, such as pressure, temperature or darkness.
- Fight against threatening fishes using your knife and harpoon.
- Navigate with your underwater vessel and find its missing pieces along your way.
- Tracked by a mysterious gigantic creature, get your vessel ready for an epic fight on your way up to the surface.

I'll definitely post my impressions later

I am going to be picking up Incognita, not just because I love the games that Klei makes, but the way they treated us in the Don't Starve beta was awesome. For Don't Starve, they gave you an awesome discounted price, plus a free key, and were really amazing at interacting with the community as the game developed. It looks like they are doing the same thing here again so not only can you get the game much cheaper than it will be for quite some time but you get to support a dev that cares about their community.

In this new era of Kickstarters and devs charging a premium for alpha and beta access, it is nice to have someone like Klei to set a better benchmark for how to treat those who believe in your product.

20$ is going to be cheaper than it will be for quite some time? I cant imagine the game launching at 30$ to be honest.

It is $17 for the non-soundtrack version and you get an extra key so split two ways that is $8.50. That is more than 50% off and it will not reach that discount for some time after release. Assuming this is the same as Don't Starve, you will only get one key for that price when it launches.

Ah, hm. Hm, hm, hm.

Well in that case since I am going to jump on that train at some point anyway... anyone feel like selling me his key for a Steam game with the same/similar worth? r3n4ud is an awesome person.

Guys, you have to try the new and improved SuperHot
http://superhotgame.com/

I know I recommended it to Toma, but really they took the 7DFPS version, made it even more stylish, remixed the scenarios, and it's just so awesome. I want a full length game like now.

---
Edit: Post your impressions, Toma. I might pass up Audiosurf 2 for Incognita if it's really good.

No time for lengthy impressions, but it doesn't have much content yet, so it's hardly recommendable over a full game, but I am very impressed with the systems, style and polish already at work here. This game will turn out amazing, you can tell that just from this small tech demo, so you really should take them up on the 2 keys for a small price over eventually, even if it's not worth getting it now immediately.

I remember Klei talking about how they wanted to make information and gathering information important to the gameplay. Do you see any aspect of that in the alpha?

Nope, except doors, objects are not yet interactive, but it currently at least contains stuff like finding a key card to enter a different room of the map.
Seriously though, considering the current state of the game, this alpha tech demo is rather impressive. Not much of a game yet, but I am looking forward to the added content.

Reading this in the Game Informer preview is going to make this decision toiugh
Incognita is shaping up to be a smart blend of roguelike, turn-based strategy, and stealth.

Roguelike? Stealth? Turn based strategy with cover and ranged weapons? Arrhfkgld....

Audiosurf 2 looks awesome, but seeing how Don't Starve was supported by Klei and how good their past games are (Mark of the Ninja is in my top three stealth games ever)
Thing is, even more than Audiosurf, I want to save for the Malebolgia Kickstarter

More Superhot praise. Now that I've played more of the refined version, really they tightened up the mechanics and everything

It has a great "one more go" appeal and the mechanics allow for some cool level scenarios. Like Hotline Miami, you constantly have to be on the move, be counting your shots, be positioning yourself, and be aware of enemies because you die in one hit.

Each scenario is slightly randomized and there's a rudimentary stealth/melee system. The browser version is only a handful of levels, but it has such potential for a full game. Thankfully, they're working on that

I played Super Hot 3 times. It's super legit.

I hope they are able to develop it into something crazy. I dream of Super Hot with crazy music and colors.

Is there an executable you can download? Don't see one on their site. Not sure why, but I dislike playing games on a browser. Can't get immersed at all...Weird, I know :/

If anyone wants a copy of Incognita, I have the extra from my 2-pack that I am selling for cost. PM me if interested and we can work out the details.

Like others have mentioned, it is pretty raw right now but I am really looking forward to how it progresses.

We're working on it; I'll probably post here when we have the standalones ready and uploaded (if I don't forget about it :c ), but if you want to make sure you won't miss them when they're done, follow us at @superhotthegame.

So I'm guessing this is the best topic to bring this up since it was being briefly discussed earlier here, but there's a new trailer for The Stanley Parable HD Remix. Pokes fun at Let's Plays.

Totally ready to have my mind FOKIN' BLOWN again next month.

Best FPS ever.
Their ambitions for the game are even better
SUPERHOT can go many directions and we would like to take all those roads :). Imagine a shootout in a hectic car traffic - where you have to avoid cars and bullets. Imagine a shootout in a building being demolished, with everything falling in slow motion. We want more then rooms with people and I hope that we can deliver that.

Incognita impressions:
http://indiegameenthusiast.blogspot.com/2013/09/pc-spotlight-11-incognita.html
It seems like Klei Entertainment just can't stay put in one genre for too long, from Shank's gory brawler action to Don't Starve's otherworldly survival and Mark of the Ninja's 2D sneaking. Now Klei is bringing its visual flair to the world of turn-based tactics with Incognita.

Described as turn-based tactical espionage, Incognita is a slick polished experience even at this early stage. Rather than protecting the world from an alien invasion or taking out terrorists, your objective is to steal secrets; fans of cyberpunk will be right at home in this world of high-tech corporate espionage. Your team of agents must infiltrate each procedurally-generated level, gather information, and escape. Unlike a game like XCOM, your characters aren't built for head-on confrontation. Stealth is key here: hack into the mainframe to control security cameras, peek around doors, be wary of your footsteps and other noisy activity. But you can't play too cautiously. After 20 turns, you will be detected and heavily armed security will reach your level, making escape that much difficult.

That balance between caution and the inevitable reinforcements imbues every moment with tension. You can purchase the early access alpha for $16.99 here, which will give you access to all alphas, betas, and a copy of the full game and an extra gift copy for a friend. While the current alpha is only a single randomized level, Incognita already shows tons of potential. You'll be able to experience turn-based tactical espionage when the full game launches in 2014.

Might skip on Incognita for now going by others impressions. It still sounds a little early for me and I am getting flashbacks to buying Door Kickers which is a game that I don't regret buying but I didn't need to own it as early in development as I did.

What made you jump on it?
Klei hasn't disappointed yet, I love stealth games, I love cyperpunk/high tech crime fiction, it has roguelike elements, I love turn based tactical games with cover and similar mechanics, and after seeing how Don't Starve was supported, I figured I'm going to get much more than that 16.99 investment
Plus I'm planning on using the second copy for trading

Just tow games that I found in Greenlight:

Color

COLOR is a unique new puzzle game from Dual Studios which revolves around the manipulation of color through the additive color system.

In each level you must use and manipulate the colors at your disposal to match the color of the goal and therefore progress to the next stage. There are a number of different puzzle mechanics that will be included throughout the game:
  • Primary Single Colors
  • Secondary Additive Colors
  • Primary Colors Through Subtraction
  • Grey areas that you must avoid
  • Switches that change elements in the level
  • The combination of all colors to produce white
  • Blank areas that you can color in to re-use later on
  • And more..

Claire

Claire is lost and terrified as she and her dog find themselves in a warped reality that is a nightmarish reflection of their own. Alone and hunted from an unknown force lurking in the darkness, Claire's only hope comes from helping the forlorn people she comes across. But as Claire searches for a way out, she begins to unravel a connection between herself, the people she is trying to redeem and the force stalking her from the shadows.

Features:
  • Play as Claire through multiple ages of her life from when she was a child to current day.
  • Level building tools to allow players to create and share custom levels.
  • Use light-based weapons such as a flashlight and flashbangs to fight the shadows.
  • Panic level-based sounds and visuals. The more scared Claire is, the scarier the game gets.
  • Work together with Claire's pet German Shepherd, who assists you by alerting you to enemies, finding items in vents and being a true companion in the darkness.
  • Survival horror elements such as needing to find health, caffeine and keeping your panic level down.
  • Talk to and try to redeem people you come across with multiple dialogue options.
  • Multiple endings based on your choices and redemption.
  • Multiple game difficulties including "Nightmare Mode" where you die if Claire becomes too tired, and NewGame+.

Blood Alloy
Kickstarter
Trailer

A 2D, urban scifi Metroidvania featuring the combat mechanics of Dark Souls as applied to gunplay + the dynamic speed of Vanquish!

Drawing inspiration from the stamina-based combat mechanics of From Software's Dark Souls and Demon's Souls, Blood Alloy applies a similar stamina mechanic to gunplay - attacking, blocking, and dodging all draw from your character's cybernetic energy reserves. In the heat of battle, every action or inaction counts. Do you deplete your energy just to finish off that troublesome enemy with a few more clips, or do you save some so you can dodge out of the way of a counterattack? Do you weather the impact of bullets against your shield, or do you attempt a risky parry and riposte? Your playstyle is your own to customize.

Great to see you guys on greenlight. Here's hoping your game passes through quickly :)

This makes me think the Frozen Endzone beta will be dropping soon, if you all didn't think there were enough good games coming out already.

Fract OSC closed Beta was just announced as well. And god damn at that Frozen Endzone Beta.

I applied for both of the just mentioned ones, but Fract at least seems to have an NDA. We'll see about Frozen Endzone.
