inFAMOUS - The oFFicial Thread

Does anyone else feel Zeke and Trish are awful, awful characters?

Zeke is growing on me, but I couldn't care less about Trish. Maybe that will change down the line, but for now, she's far, far below the Sucker Punch standard when it comes to supporting characters.

Out of curiosity, is there a reason the X-play review isn't listed on Metacritic?

Just beat the game yesterday and got the Good ending. Holy shit what an awesome ride.
I think I'll wait a while to play my second time around on evil. Hope the Gigwatt Blades become availble as (free) DLC that'll more than likely spur on my path to the dark side >;)

I didn't like Trish that much, hell Sasha is a way better character than her
especially if you go evil in the second island she is the one giving you the missions for the evil side of things.
Zeke on the other hand I like as a character, don't know why maybe it's his stupid ass accent.

BTW come on people brain storm new powaz for either DLC or the next game!

Aside from the an Electric dash kinda like what the reaper conduits have on the good side of things if you level it up the more range on it you get makes you take less damage and evil side of things same on the range but when you reach the destination you just electrocute stun the shit out of enemies or make them blow up :D

TTP mentioned as few days ago that a move where Cole shoots a shockwave at the ground that pushes him upwards (eg a double jump) might be cool. I'm for that (although it would probably ruin the level design of certain enclosed areas).

It really does depend on what you plan to do in the game. I didn't rush, and played through first time on normal/hero settings, and it took me in excess of fifteen hours. I did 100% all districts, but I didn't complete any of the other collections.

If you're going to 100% it with 100% shards, Dead drops, stunts and upgraded powers it'll be close or over 15 hours.

I'll just say it's over 15 hours to be on the safe side.

1 blast shard left. Meaning I'll never get it. I wish Sucker Punch had some kind of save data analysis system like the Burnout Paradise one so that u could upload your save and look at where is what in a web based map screen. :/

I'm more looking for a number if I'm not going to 100% it. Just go through the game more or less, not trying to get achievements and such. But if 15 hours is for 100% then it sounds good, was hoping that it wouldn't be to long since I just sank 20 hours into Prototype, could be a bit to much open world in a short time.

Just finished Infamous on good. What a tremendous game. What a tremendous ending. Considering this game launched in australia on the 4th of June, and I've finished in 5 days - what with time off for the holiday + work. I'd say it was freaking addictive. I just couldn't stop playing. And the ending. Holy shit at that ending.

The ending was amazing - I had to watch it twice to process what was said/shown and wow... just a mindfuck and came right out of the blue. I've read about the "wtf ending" without going into spoilers but even that didn't prepare me for how they ended it. Really excellent. Wish the final boss was a tad tougher - but I was maybe too robust at the end from powering up COLE to the max.

I couldn't get through GTA4 (about 2 hours and I got bored) but infamous, I couldn't get enough of. The powering up was superb (wait til you get to the LAST POWERUP YOU GET... just nothing short of madness). Looks freaking incredible, makes you feel like you're truly controlling a super f***ing hero. Just outstanding.

If you don't own this, go get it. Its really good. No loading, fantastic visuals, GREAT story, fun fun fun.

9/10

INFAMOUS 2 can't come soon enough.

  • game critique

  • mission variety.
There is a lot here but it would be nice to string some of the side quests into a linear/complete storycycle ---> maybe a sidequest to help a person (BENNY) and it goes for various chapters and culminates. I think this would be nice.
  • difficulty for end boss. bit easy I thought. :(
  • Need to be able to
    teleport
Please have this in the sequel. I think there are some other topics in this thread about powerupgrades but this is the one I would like best.
  • RPG elements - could be a bit more organic than to select from a list and power up. Maybe a screen where COLE is shown, with appropriate body/parts + places to allocate these. A better looking UI I guess.

and that's it. I thought it was a very solid gaming experience. Smooth gameplay, no loading, awesome awesome fights, fantastic visuals. I need to play this on evil. Blueflashing everywhere on the screen was shit hot. My female housemate said "that looks amazing" near the end. Some of the craziness when a war is going on is amazing. One of the last sidequests had a shit load of things going on and the engine didn't skip a beat. A M A Z I N G Its called the
titantic fight
. That was AWESOME. Chaotic as hell, things happening all over.

Superlative.

The time is good enough for me. Play through this 3 times and never thought the game was too short nor too long. The pacing is consistent throughout the 3 island.

ENDING TALK 1

about the ending

the cole from the future...how did kessler get super powers exactly? the cole we play got super powers from his future self.. so who gave future cole super powers?

My intepretation

Kessler had gotten powers the same way Cole did. The raysphere. But in his timeline, he was a coward. He chose to flee and take care of Trish (his family) but eventually, he couldn't escape the destruction brought on by the red beast. And she died. So in the end, the games ending takes place and Kessler ends up in the past and the game as we know it sort of starts

So was Sasha Trish from the future? Or did Trish from the future die anyway? If Sasha was indeed Trish like Kessler was Cole, then that whole plot line starts to make sense. Kinda. I think I'll do a playthrough on Evil next time around with a new perspective on things.

Hmm, I'm glad I read this thread. I don't know maybe ... she was
Moya?
The angle you present makes sense and I didn't/wouldn't even have recalled if I didn't go back and read the thread. However
how did she then show up in this timeline?!?

Oh, and I forgot – going into the sewers to activate the last power station, then coming up early and essentially having unlimited energy to unleash lightning strike after lightning strike on enemies and semis is the most satisfying thing ever.

Absolutely agree. This part when I got to it was nothing short of slackjaw OMFGWTFBBQ amazing.

A couple of ideas:
1. An electrostatic lasso- Cole would be able to pick up objects using a sort of static cling. It would start off with small objects like propane tanks to people (for teh lulz) then to cars, then trucks.

2. Magnetic Armor- Cole would turn himself into a magnet and draw in metal from the world around him to make him a walking tank. It would probably limit ranged attack and movement and cost power to keep it up.

I got an attackplan for this situation. My GF is gonna open the maps with shardlocations in Photoshop on her laptop and I'm going to run them down one by one. Meanwhile, she crosses off all locations I've visited.

inFamous will be my first platinum trophy because the game fucking deserves it. One of the best bossbattles I've done in centuries.

Infamous 2 needs a holographic cover art with simultaneous good/evil Cole images. I'm hoping that it will be able to load your save from the end of the first game, both for story and for character purposes. A good place to go (imo) would be to have a more complex upgrade tree and the ability to mix and match good/evil upgrades depending on where you fall on the spectrum, and take away the idea of becoming more good or more evil as becoming stronger (so that starting off all good or all evil wouldn't be hugely advantageous over starting off neutral).

I only played good karma yet, and yes the ending is extremely well-done. It's above and beyond 99% of the games out there. Dunno if the ending of the Evil-playthrough will be any different.

ChackanKun said:

Playing Hero is the only way to get the decent story.

Playing Evil it just doesn't make much sense character wise. And it doesn't result in a believable story. Also Cole's dialog when evil is so much cheesier and doesn't really work. When you are just playing a murdering psychopath, you just can't develop the same attachment to the character.

The basic ending is the same for both though. It just doesn't have the same impact. Also most of the main story missions are identical except for a few minor changes. Like when you are evil, Trish tells you how she hates what you become before she dies. But when you are awesome, she tells you how proud she is of you But she will die either way.

god I know, I love spoiling endings for myself, :( bad habit I have. Well, okay I don't love it but I just can't turn away from spoilers, especially if a friend has finished the game before me, I'd keep asking them what happens if I can't play for some reason. I kept bugging Dan, so he kinda spoiled it for me saying
Cole dies but he doesn't
I was so confused! Even that didn't prepare me for the ending, god, I loved it!

Cole was already a conduit , the potentials to have powers were already within him , in the future , well the alternative future anyway he got his power like Reapers , dustmen and the other guys , but in this timeline he (Kessler ) gave himself way more powers at first by the sphere , he want "himself" to be more powerful , at the end this timeline Cole accomplished that .

Jax said:

yeah , since Cole in the alternative future got his power by the effect like the Reapers he wasn't strong to save the world and beat that red thingy , now thing changed , Cole is more stronger than his old version "Kessler "

if you're talking about end boss? super easy actually. Spam grenades. Heal. Spam grenades... win

and note to anyone interested in playing inFAMOUS...

GET A DUALSHOCK 3. It rumbles like you wouldn't believe.

Kessler
pretty clearly invented the ray sphere - first time you see him, you see the devastation of the future and understand that it's all his fault (because Kessler blames himself). He invented the time machine, has advanced tech that he wears, and probably invented a lot of the advanced technology (giant Conduit thing, hoverbots) that the First Sons use.

Finished the game last night, pretty good overall even if I bitched earlier about the Hard difficulty being too punishing.
Likes:
- some of the super powers are great Hammer, grenade being my favorites, enemies flying through the air and carnage was very satisfying
- world ambience is very good, the city feels destroyed, in chaos.. for the most part. I don't really understand how there are cars around still following traffic laws though, especially when there are dead lying in the street
- story is pretty good, certainly the ending is a nice twist that I didn't see coming, for the most part the voice acting is good (with exception to Cole who tries too hard to be edgy)
- decent variety on 'missions', some are repetitive but some are a lot of fun, defending the bus, helicopter being my favorites, I enjoyed 'finding' the packages too.

Dislikes:

- they recommend hard mode too liberally, hard mode is too punishing, making the game very frustrating to play especially on the second island, this is the first superhero game I played where I felt weaker mid-way through the game. perhaps just a slight balance issue at that point in the game
- some of the world is disjointed, along with the story. not a huge issue but reminds you it's just a game
- not enough enemy variety, they needed to make at least 5-6 different enemy models for each group. It would be nice if each model did something/fought different but even just different models would have had the game feel a lot less recycled
- no coop/multiplayer

I would say Infamous was the best PS3 experience I had to date, the first PS3 game I bought that I really wanted to start a new game as a totally different 'alignment' right away.

Only got my game yesterday.

First impression: The
X and Y-axis inversion check
at the very start is the best implementation I've ever seen. Almost didn't notice it had happened.

I don't agree.

In the comic image of kessler with the power of time travel. He's depicted as just a simple street clothed man with hand a-lit with power that he then used to travel back in time. Plus future Kessler/Cole was in hiding, not a scientist. Cole/Kessler in the current day also didn't seems to be a medico/tech person. Well, he didn't present like he was to me. He was shown in the video as someone wearing a beanie+street clothes? I think the future gizmo/gear with hood is to draw the eye away from the fact that he is cole.

That and to emphasis the years Kessler put into making the Raysphere early and all the technological advancements that came from that.

i just hate it when the developers make an awesome game and leave something like a checklist of the stunts out of the game.
oh well, make it happen for infamous 2!

finally got my ps3 back, thinking im gonna get this today, just wondering how it is compared to crackdown, half the fun in crackdown was just hopping around the city and collecting orbs, how are side missions? story good? missions good? etc

A couple of things concerning this ending discussion:

I suppose one could assume that in Kessler's timeline he invented the Ray Sphere, but that wouldn't really explain why the dead drops seem to indicate he is still running experiments trying to build it if he already knew how to do it.

Someone also said that
"Kessler got his power like the Reapers, etc." but I don't think that's true. The only people with superpowers in the game are the main antagonists (Kessler, Sasha, Alden) and the Conduits of each enemy type. I think it's implied that the conduits of the different energy types gained their powers due to the Ray Sphere explosion as well (further from the epicenter so less powerful though), and a cutscene (the one at the hospital after you lead Trish's bus there) even alludes to the fact that Alden's powers were magnified due to the explosion. The standard enemy types of Reapers and Dustmen are just regular guys either joining the gang as fanatics or in the case of Reapers controlled by the sludge.

Also, someone earlier posted
Kessler was too weak to stop the Red Beast in his timeline. I'm not really buying that. Kessler's powers are greater than Cole's in the game, and the ending cutscene implies to me that Cole just wanted to be passive and keep his family safe, so they kept running until there was nowhere left to run and the world was ruined and Trish was dead. The ending also implies that his timetraveling was another power rather than something Kessler invented, which is another testament to how much more powerful he is than Cole (at this point anyway).

So, basically,
I think there's an alternate explanation for how Kessler arrived at his powers in his timeline and I'm not convinced an explosion in Empire City involving a Ray Sphere ever happened in Kessler's timeline - I'm not even convinced the Ray Sphere as it exists in Cole's timeline exists in Kessler's timeline. After all, the ending also makes a point of saying how Kessler planned the plague, the quarantine, and everything. I think Kessler got his powers in a more mundane fashion in his timeline, but needed to create some kind of "playground" or "training ground" to hone and prime Cole, and he did it by making the explosive Ray Sphere to decimate and cut off Empire City.

Concerning good vs. bad playthrough, that actually provided the biggest shock when I did my second playthrough as evil.
I didn't expect the switcheroo that Kessler would pull and Trish to die in evil too, that definitely surprised me.

I think the good playthrough is canon - it pretty obviously has to be - which is somewhat sad since
Sasha is far more interesting than Trish and her pseudo interactions and continued involvement with you through the evil side missions when playing evil really inject something into the game when playing evil. I really hope they find a way to make her more integral in a sequel because she could be one of those really great weirdly evil characters that people love.

The way they present the current day Cole, it doesn't seem like he would be a person capable of inventing anything. He's a bike messenger, they don't suggest that he's overly intelligent and his best friend is an imbecile/swindler. The fact that Kessler is experimenting with the ray sphere in an organized scientific way doesn't really feel right either but I'm willing to accept that. I don't think I could accept that Kessler invented the ray sphere.

Edit:
I personally believe that the First Sons were developing the Ray Sphere and his experiments were done to make sure the device was ready at that point in time.

agree with your edit and most of the original post. Kessler's role in the present is to lure Cole to the raysphere and make it explode. He wanted to empower himself earlier so Cole can then be powered up to face the red beast. The fact that at the end of inFAMOUS, Cole defeated Kessler = indicative of how Cole has become stronger than Kessler ever was. The time travel stuff might come later ---- remembering how he absorbs his powers.

I selected this one bit - and bolded it. Already answered it above. But Kessler isn't more powerful than Cole. Cole is a better fighter. He's powered up to fight. He absorbs powers/skills. Fact remains, he beat kessler at the end of infamous suggesting Future Cole has succeeded in making Present Cole more powerful, trained at combat; and... imbuded with rage and understanding to take on the red beast.

you know... infamous 2 can't come soon enough.

Ending Discussion:

I remember that John mentioned that the First Sons were attempting to use technology to enhance or activate super powers. The only reason I would think Kessler would have got involved with the organization in the first place was because they had what he needed. I believe the Ray Sphere gave him his powers in his timeline and he somehow found out where the device originated.

I believe his whole plan was to go back in time when the Ray Sphere was still in development, possibly expedite the process with information he had from the future and give himself powers earlier and put himself to a test. He just wants to be sure he's ready when the time comes.

A possible alternative that I would buy is that he got his hands on design documents for the Ray Sphere in the future and took them to First Sons in the past because he knew they were the only ones who were capable of building it and he knew they were going to do it in the future anyway.

.

I guess so , he killed Trish , half of the city , his true purpose was to give Cole more powers , he did everything for that ( 2nd sphere too ) , there is only one reason and that to " fix " the past and save the world ( the alternative future ) , he didn't want anything else , he even want Cole to kill him , he was a bad guy sure , but he was desperate too, and this is the only way to make Cole ready for that thing and save the world , it wasn't just evil to be evil ( like most of the games/movies ) .

My minor issue with the game is that there is no real stat tracking! I mean it's an open world game, therefore it has to be in there! Am I missing something? Can someone please enlighten me?

Yea, that sucks. I wish it tracked the stunts with a clear list of cleared and not cleared. I also would have liked to see GTA-like stats. I dunno why but I really want to see it badly in the next one. Maybe its my ocd about but i loved that in GTA.
