It kinda has a time limit, if you wonder off and don't do any mission for a while a timer will pop up and you'll have to go to a mission in order for it to go away (and not end your game). But other than that, there's no timer.

The area of the city you're in is limited, yes.

I'm really disliking some of the animation work in the cutscenes, particularly in the sewer section when you meet the black guy. Dear god I haven't seen animation that rigid since.. Tomb Raider 1. :lol

Fortunately, most of the game isn't like this, though.

yeah the cutscenes don't really match up to the glorious animation of actual gameplay. i cannot wait until tuesday, sucker punch you've done a great job.

Once you complete the first mission, you have a fairly lengthy period to do whatever you'd like. After a while, the timer will count down and automatically start the closest available mission, followed by the same lengthy "free" period after the mission completion.

We have access to one of the three islands in the demo.

Use thunder drop. It doesn't consume power and ensures that you don't try to grab any ledges.

I have super mixed feelings on the demo, I didn't like it as much as you guys. I found it weird because the game seemed to focus a lot on shooting and yet it was hard to aim and shoot I thought. And then if you melee'd the game doesn't really lock on to enemies making it hard. I hated getting shot at from far distances and not know where I was getting shot from, and I can't zoom-in to get a more accurate aim (can I?). The cover system works well enough I guess, but doesn't feel as good as other games.
So I really wasn't feeling the combat. And I wanted so badly for there to be some kind of super jump button, a la Spider-Man games where I can get to the top of buildings quickly; instead of looking for somewhere to attach and climb with.

... yeah this isn't my type of game. I had a few fun moments with the demos, tossing out as many gernades as you can and watching the destruction ensue is pretty damn fun. Also I find it kind of hard how you would play this game being good and trying not to kill civilians. When you are fighting the bad guys they get in the way and you can't help if you if you take out some people doing shock waves and tossing gernades while trying to get the bad guys.

The snipe-shot/zoom in ability comes later in the game. It's been shown in a few videos.

You can zoom in the full game apparently. Civilian kills dont drain much good exp though. As far as getting hit, on the subway it kinda hurts being an open target, but other than that, just keep moving like a ninja.

initially very impressed, but after a bit all the endless enemies taking pot shots from every corner of the game pissed me off. the mission where you have to protect the medical supply drop really annoyed me.

wtf is it with every game now putting blood around the border of the screen and fading to black and white as you take damage? is it some kind of mandate from god that this is the only way to do things now? I CANT STAND WHEN MY SCREEN GOES BLACK AND WHITE!

good attempt but ill pass on this one.

you're not playing the game right.

pretty easy to avoid getting shot at by taking cover and rolling.

i guess im not good enough. thanks.

but if it's so easy then you shouldn't buy it either. no challenge = no sale.

I played the first two missions in the demo and really liked it. I hope (but doubt) it's a later part of the game because I kept getting my ass kicked. I'm worried it might get frustrating pretty quickly.

Also, something strange happened to me in the demo. I spawned in the world after the first mission and suddenly got killed by one of my one grenades. I thought I had full life too. The strange part was that when the game reloaded, I was fully Infamous even though I was a hero before I died.

When you die it skips you to the next mission in the demo and it flips you between Hero and Infamous for the different missions to give you a taste of what they're both like.

This is why Demon's Souls should not come to the US as it is.

This is something that should be highlighted. Enemies do seem to have very good aim, but to counter that, your own character has a full set of very snappy evasive moves, and the climb-cover system is insanely useful. It may sound awfully snarky, but in this case, I think there is something to the "you're not playing it right."

And that medical supply mission was ridiculously easy. Grenade, zap, grenade, replenish energy, and repeat. Hell, you can even choose to fight from the rooftops, and make it a real cakewalk. That's not to say that it was a great mission, but it was damned easy.

The medical box defense is retarded, I hope there aren't a lot of missions like that. So boring and generic.

Agreed, demo in general felt like that. Some of the moves were pretty fun though, I think I'll wait till after E3 to buy or not.

I think it's a bit telling that I did my best to avoid the actual missions in the demo. Granted that they likely need to be completed to advance the story (well, at least I think that's the case), but I got more out of just zipping, grinding and climbing around the city and zapping random enemies than I got out of any of the missions. Maybe it's just a fundamental quality of open world games that makes missions seem near superfluous, not sure.

Totally agree. The missions bring the demo down for me, but moving through the world and rooftops and killing the occasional gang guy is sublime. When I have to do the other stuff I'm a lot less impressed.

I think part of it is that all of the missions in the demo are basically shooter events. I've seen snapshots of other mission types from the full game that focus more on platforming, exploration and more creative usage of your powers, and unsurprisingly, those seem a lot more interesting. Nothing wrong with shooters, but that was never what attracted me to this game.

Well the allure of open world games to me is the scale and freedom. No matter what every mission in every open world game takes some of that away momentarily.

Before GTAIV I never finished a GTA game, I just wanted to screw around in the city. THAT was fun.

Not that all missions are a bad thing or cannot be enjoyed but I have to be in the mood to play them.
EDIT: It probably dosen't help that you have played the demo a few times, you know what to expect. When you just run around its always different.

So from playing the demo, SP got the core gameplay sexy hot. Platforming and powers feel silky smooth.

However, a major selling point for me is mission variety, something that I haven't seen many reviews comment on. Judging from the demo it seemed each mission was just a different excuse to pound on bitches with your powers.

Can I expect any puzzle solving? Any non-combat related missions (foot-races, time trials, etc?) Any mini-games? Variety is going to separate this game from "must-buy" to "maybe buy sometime later" for me.

So in other words, SonyGAF, this is your chance to directly influence the success of one of your beloved exclusives. Have at it.

This is definitely the kind of open world game I've been looking for. The controls are great and it is an awesome super hero game. If any upcoming super hero MMO's could control like this, they have my money right off the bat. I was thinking of getting RE5 over this but I'm definitely getting this on Tuesday.

Played the demo. Didn't like it at all. Combat was annoying. Constantly getting shot and dying so quickly. During the crate protection mission when the chaingun guy shows. As soon as the cutscene ends, he's shooting you and bam your dead. I was very excited for infamous. I think I'll just rent it now.

That part was actually pretty easy. I even put the game on Hard mode in the demo. Just threw a bunch of grenades and everybody blew up. The trucks were pretty easy too.

That's what is so great about the combat in this game. If you do it wrong you get punished really hard and die a lot. If you do it right however you are DOMINATING WITH LIGHTNING. In this case I just got behind cover and fried the machine gun guy, then went up on the house where he was before and destroyed the trucks from there. Awesome! Just thinking about how I did it makes me want to play the demo again. :(

The main story missions are pretty much all combat-related (though you'll need to use platforming skills in most of 'em, particuarly the underground sections). The side-missions are more of a mixture - some have you clambering buildings to remove security cameras, others have you racing between satellite dishes to help secure an uplink. It's worth doing them too, as each completed one removes the enemies from that small district (my save game says there are 84 districts in the game, so that presumably equates to the number of side-missions there are) enabling you to do the fun platformy stuff without getting shot at all the time.

I've just finished this, anyway, and I'd recommend it to any PS3 owner as long as they've got a bit of patience. It has some very cheap enemies and one or two missions are firmly on the wrong side of the tough-but-rewarding/downright frustrating line, but the story's worth sticking with, particularly for the ending (hint: collect as many Dead Drops as you can to fill in some of the gaps).

It has to be said that it's much more like a third-person shooter than I'd anticipated. If you think about it, virtually all of your powers equate to a type of weapon.

But yeah, it's a nice game - don't expect the second coming and you'll likely enjoy yourself. And the comic book story sequences are fantastic. Wouldn't surprise me if we get a few copycats doing this, because it really works wonderfully here.

That guy was a pain in the ass. I tried everything i could think of, so i went for the dumbest idea and it worked. I ran towards him :lol . Which got me shot a few times, but that was going to happen anway. So i was out of line of sight, climbed up the building and killed him, I thought that was kinda stupid.

Isn't that what you are supposed to do? Well I just dodged the bullets with "circle"then ran towards the building climbed it until i was hanging on the edge and took out the guy. EASY!

Most annoying thing about that section was how after every cutscene I started next to the crate, and had to climb the building again to get my vantage point.

I just shot that gatling gun guy down and began to get back to the roof of the buildings. The medical crate mission is very easy if you try to find some good ways of completing it. My favorite is to grind up there at the power lines throwing endless grenades and enjoy the fireworks since it's replenishing life and electric power.

This is exactly how I feel,as I mentioned before. But i'll try a few more times the demo but i'll definetly wait for impressions for the full game, which a lot of people seem to be able to buy early to make my mind up about a [urchase now...for example, does the real game have moments when you are not getting constantly shot at,from god knows where, moments where you search the collectables, moments like in Crackdown for example, where if you don't initiate fights, you can just explore,run,destroy/climb all over the place?

Maybe it is. Im not sure.

I guess running towards a guy shooting at you was the right thing to do. Considering the amount of cover around you and the fact it starts you off behind some crates. It just seemed a little odd.

not really, you can find cover to your side and when the enemy stop shooting for a moment you have to go out and shoot him, sure you have to be quick, and do realize you're not going down in 1 shot, Cole can take quite a few bullets before he went down and there's plenty of spot to charge your health in that area. I don't go run at him in my play.
