Just played for a few minutes earlier... Still very early on in the game... The mission where you have to use <description of the KIND of mission>
stealth to spy
on someone is fucking amazing. I guess you can
sneak behind them
on the ground, but I jumped from building to building... over railings and lamp posts and train tracks etc. So much fun!

Crackdown did not hold 30 fps at all times and neither does Infamous. It's a LOT more detailed than Crackdown, however, and looks better overall (though Crackdown has cleaner image quality).
I have no doubt that inFamous is gonna be great but it cracks me up when people try to compare it to Crackdown graphically. No one mentions the fact that part of the reason it is not as detailed as games like GTA IV and inFamous is the fact that it has an amazing online co-op component that only Saints Row 2 has been able to do in an open world environment.

GTA4 had an online component and that was still far more detailed than Crackdown.

I'd place GTA4/InFamous at the top of the sandbox genre, graphically. They just have a lot more detail, better animation, better lighting, and dynamic shadows.

I don't think the online component is really much of a huge issue, engine wise.

The co-op has nothing to do with the detail, GTA looks the same with 8 players in one world. Do you think SR2 would look better without co-op? LOL go look at SR1. The reason Crackdown looks the way it does is do to it being an early game and the art style.

Well my demo account has been tampered with, no more demo codes from me. Lasted longer than I expected to be honest.

EDIT: I liked that PSN name too, I was going to keep that as a sharing account. :(
Some people will continue to be asshats no matter what. I say have a list of everyone you've shared that account with. Sure it won't really help, but it could be useful for future references.
i was one of the ones who used his account to grab the demo. i can assure you i didn't change the pwd though, and i didn't share it with anyone else.

Don't worry I'm not going on a Gaf hunt. :D Not worth it.

That style of mission in a game with as robust a climbing system as inFamous' sounds awesome - it's good to know that they've tailored missions to their engine's unique strengths.

Also thanks for your detailed thoughts back on page 7, they were a good read and much appreciated.

Reading that gave me a pang of hatred for Assassin's Creed. Spying, no doubt can be fun or done well, but man AC just threw everything it had going for it away for that.

Sorry to hear about that.
It's a shame when somebody goes out of their way to help others enjoy the demo but to get their accounts tampered with in the process.

I'm actually excited to see the full game. I think I'll like it more than the demo. Am I the only one who kept getting this confused with Prototype? You have to admit theres some similarities.

Yep. The only one.

They are easily confused in the same way that Halo 3 and Rainbow Six Vegas are easily confused.

Gruff heroes that suddenly get powers by events that cause a city to go into lockdown has more similarities than a space marine fighting aliens versus a group of commandos fighting generic terrorists in Vegas.

I don't think they're very similar myself, I just think that's a bad comparison.

Also, on a somewhat related note, Prototype looks completely uninteresting to me.

Having played inFAMOUS and not Prototype, I don't think I can fairly comment on how the game will turn out. I can say however that inFAMOUS looks to be a more open world game then Prototype, by that I mean Prototype seems to lack the exploration aspect. It looks to be more of an action game set in large environments.

Yeah. Too many lock on combat/ moves. I mean, I know it might be necessary for some styles of attack, but the way you attack in the game...I dunno.

Not really. Not only are there no apparent similarities between the designs or motives of the characters beyond their gravely voices, the core gameplay is wildly and fundamentally different. The only thing they do have in common are super-human powers and unrestricted worlds, similar to how Halo and Rainbow Six both feature shooting of terrorists, intergalactic or not. But if it makes you feel better, you can replace Halo with Medal of Honor Airborne.

Well, what does it for me is the difference in tone. inFamous puts a lot of focus on playing out like a comic book, and it works out very well for it. Prototype's sense of "maturity" by gratuitous bloodshed kind of turns me off a bit. Not that I have a problem with blood, just so much that it seems the gigantic focus on it also showcases to me how there's not much too the game.

I'm not really commenting on how each game plays, just saying that (because until the inFamous demo, I was one of those folks) for a lot of people only taking brief glances at both games, I can see how they'd find a lot about them to be pretty similar based on what is presented. Having looked into both games deeply now though, I also see a very wide gulf between them.

pfffffffffft.

But I mean, what the hell, the game's not even out yet. That's a brilliant analysis.

Well, if a demo comes out, I'll be happy to play it and change my mind, but from what I've seen so far, the whole "surfing on dude while pool of blood shoots out of his legs like a jet stream" and shit like that is kind of... "whatever" to me.

I also can't stand lock on combat. It was the worst aspect of Crackdown to me, it ruined GTA IV for me, and seeing it in Prototype instantly gives me something to loath.

I started playing at 10 PM EST, and decided will stop at 11 so I can sleep at a decent time for once and will have time tomorrow to prepare for classes. Its now 2.23 AM, and I have not taken a break once from playing inFAMOUS. And I have no intention of stopping right now, I'm heading right back to the game.

Take from that what you will. :D

Unbelievable. This is the 3rd or 4th person it happened to. WTF is wrong with people doing this to others who are going out on a limb for others? Scumbags.

I finally got the up close and personal and melee finisher stunts, those were pretty tough, but they give you 50 XP!

Also, I think crush is when you kill someone crushing them with a car or large object, not shockwaving someone into the wall.

I get it when I shock wave the barricade of cars onto the bad guys during the train track mission.

I'm amazed at how Sucker Punch have given seemingly repetitive missions so much variety. Cole has to go
down into the sewers
to bring electricity back to certain areas. Every island has about 3-4. Every mission has two parts... first is to
re-establish connection, where you unlock powers (grenade, grinding rails etc)
, and the second part is where you have to use them to achieve your objective, which is to
charge up the electricity distribution machine
. Everytime you get something more, the platforming changes so that you can try them out and see how they work.

It could have very easily become boring and extremely repetitive, but the lure of
unlocking powers
makes it bearable, as well as the platforming sections. They arent really challenging, but are fun to traverse, especially when you are fighting at the same time.

Also, at this point, the story is becoming quite intriguing.

Holy shit I just did the coolest thing. I was using the lightning attack while standing on top of a car. It blew up the car, but sent me straight up probably 150 feet in the air! Stand on the hood of a car and it works!

Add a thunder drop from your peak and you will do more damage, and you still have most of your electricity because you only use one unit for the lightning strike.

Just got the first upgrade for the
Megawatt Hammer
... Think Resistance 1, only more badass :lol

Oh snap... I wish we could start a second game from the beginning with all the powers we unlocked on our first playthrough... It would be insane to use upgraded powers against the weaker enemies in the beginning!

The difference you are noticing is the black ink in the evil electricity in the IGN video. You don't see that in the demo, which leads me to believe the demo is an older build.

I saw that video second, even from the liked video it seemed different. Something about framerate or animation I want to say.

I want to go media blackout with this game but I can't control myself :lol

Yup its that power... its upgrades are awesome!

Right now I am on top of a bus I have to protect while it is going from one place to another... Its pretty intense.

By which I mean i've died twice till now :lol

Damn its 4.14... been playing non-stop for more than 6 hours now :lol

Cant wait to use that power,so I guess its like a rocket?By the way all these missions oyu posting about are they all side missions? :)

Yup exactly... and the first upgrade lets you change direction of the rocket... just like Resistance... But in this case, you can fire off 4-5 of these, and then with a single command they will all redirect and wreak havoc on some poor enemy! :lol

Also, I havent done a single side mission yet. I think I have done about 29 missions so far, and am on my last
substation
of the second island. I'm guessing the third island will be available after that. I'll start doing the side missions when I think I am close to finishing the game... Right now I am going with the main missions, but later on if my powers arent all upgraded I will do side missions to earn XP.

Also, the prison mission (of which we have seen some videos already) is fantastic... the platforming is brutal, it can be quite frustrating. At least it was for me... but then again, i'm a pretty terrible gamer, cuz i had trouble even though I am playing on easy!

to be frank, i am not amused by seeing lots of page full of spoilers 2 weeks before the game is released in the official thread.

for the other big titles, whenever someone gets a release this early, they generally don't post every exciting bit of their journey in a thread where people are actually excited about the game and purposefully not reading spoilers.

I've tried to spoiler tag as well as keep things vague, but if this is the general consensus, I will take them down.

At least he is using the spoiler tags.

Got a question, will you still veer towards the evil side if you hurt people while trying to stop the bad guys? It looks almost unavoidable since some of the battles takes place in crowded streets and some of the citizens take part in the battle as you're trying to take out the baddies.

I am not exactly sure, but if I had to guess, I would say yes. For a couple of missions, I have ended up being "You have become slightly more evil"... even when playing at HERO rank. I dont know why I was given that rank, but most probably collateral damage played a part.

My guess is that you won't be able to avoid hurting people in some situations, BUT if you heal them after your karma will lean more to the good side.

I still don't get how electricity can heal people.
Revive them if their heart has stopped due to a heart attack or something similar, sure.

Oh well, it's just a game and a superhero/villian game at that.

yes.

Got this from the IGN boards

Infamous - 9, 8.5 and the Game of the Month
Concept: Play the role of hero or villain in a super-powered sandbox

Graphics: The city's color palette is a little bland, but contrasts nicely against the vibrant electrical effects.

Sound: Solid voice acting, although Cole's coarse whisper doesn't fit the character. The avant-garde industrial soundtrack isn't what you'd expect either, but fits perfectly.

Playability: Intuitive controls facilitate the city navigation and electrical combat.

Entertainment: Worth playing through twice to see how good and evil powers develop.

Replay Value: High

We already knew the scores and that it got game of the month thanks to jander. :D

Well Frank as long as spoiler tags are used I don't see a problem. Just don't peek.

I didn't like having to press X like 6 times to get up the side of a building when I played the demo the first time. Well, I played the demo a dozen times or more now and I find myself getting up the sides of buildings much faster by taking lamp posts and various things to get up quicker. The end of the month can't come soon enough!

So...are you guys going to be good or evil?
