inFAMOUS - The oFFicial Thread

Just got the game like 5 hours ago and goddamn its awesome! Loving it so far. I can't believe how good this game turned out to be, I really wanna see what they can do with another Sly Cooper.

EG review was pretty good and their 7 is a 8 on the usual terrible scale every other site uses.

e: Click is hilarious, keep it up

I promise this is the last I'll say on this, but maybe they should get on the scale everyone else is using.

Let's say you have been working on your dissertation for your PhD or your masters dissertation for 3-4 years (basically the amount of time this game took). In the end you have a panel review it and each panel member gives it an A or B, but one person gives it a C because they are grading on a different scale, even though they liked it. That's bullshit, and it could have a negative effect on you.

If they really want to be different and discerning, EG should drop the scoring system altogether. At the very least they should (if they aren't already) use the decimal system.

It has blast shards, which once you collect a certain amount gives you more electricity to use. It also seems to have recordings spread around the city that help tell the story, sounds like Bioshock to me.

Obviously the main thing you unlock are more powers as you get XP during the game.

That's a terrible analogy. Eurogamer readers know the scale they (generally, obviously some of their reviewers are better than others) use and that's all that matters, not some possible "negative effect" it could have on the sales.

They gave it a 7 because that reviewer thought it was a 7. It's all subjective anyway.

but the review scale only needs to make sense relative to itself. Eurogamer isn't doing the wrong thing, Metacritic is.

I guess I just don't see the difference between one ten point scale and another. Did they explicitly come out and say that we are using the full scale unlike the rest of the world?

If this were on 1up's site, it would be getting C- !!

Eurogamer is not the fucking Siskel and Ebert of game reviews (who did two thumbs up instead of the standard 5 star system) , and shouldn't be using a different 10 point scale. If they were to have two guys review every game and be considered the pinnacle of game reviews, I might understand.

They should drop scoring altogether, or get with the rest of the world, where a 7/10 is barely above average.

It's how people are treating these institutions.

People think Eurogamer have higher standards because they dole out higher scores less frequently and because some people think they write well.

Those have nothing to do with the integrity of the institution.

Naah, they gave a LOT of 10's and 9's even more than anybody else, tbh

I know games 'journalism' is utterly retarded and all, but why would anyone make a point of conforming to the "If it's well known give it 9, otherwise give it 7" rating scale?

Not saying eurogamer is any good, either.

this is a terrible world-view :(

Why fixate on a single review? It's one of many and honestly most people in this thread aren't still on the fence about the game. It's not going to get all 9s and 10s.

I don't know maybe it's just the American educational system, which operates on a ten point scale. I don't know how grades work in other countries, but if you get a 7/10 on a test, it is considered slightly above average and you are unlikely to get into a University.

Any game that gets multiple 7's is pretty much a bad game, and anything below a 7 means the game is basically a failure. That is why you see games scored on 7-10 scale on most sites, and most of the current games that take 3-4 years to develop and 20 something million to develop are deserving of a 8.

6's and 7's should be for games that are rentals, crappy ports, or bad sports title 2009.

For me, I'm not concerned with the review, as I usually disagree with EG. I'm just fascinated by the idea of varying ten point scales and how a 7 is "good" as opposed to barely above average.

Maybe I'm not thinking straight, but in what other field or sport is a 7/10 good? Certainly not in gymnastics, the dunk contest, or anything I can think of.

Damn, just remembered the demo comes out today...time to jump back on the wagon, one of my most anticipated PS3 game, especially since it's "only for" for now :D

You're seriously going to pretend that this could get ported to another system?

Sony owns the IP.
Point taken. Sorry, I haven't paid enough attention to the details of this release, didn't know Sony owned the IP.

I'm pretty jazzed about this coming out though, should be a great summertime game :)

yap, infamous coming to the 360.
only on ps3 sticker:lol

It's a trade deal. 360 gets a port of Infamous and PS3 gets Mass Effect 2. MEGATON-AGE!

One is a first party IP.

The other is a third party IP with exclusivity (be it timed or permanent) probably bought with moniehats.

Big difference.

Plus ME2 would be of little trade value. (IIRC EA bought Bioware, so it will obviously be multiplat eventually, right?)

Let's put this deal on hold till after e3 when we've actually seen Alan Wake ;)

More like: ME2 goes to PS3. Period. Oh, and Lost and Damned, just like Fallout 3 DLC and improved Ninja Gaiden 2.

This will be only the second game I blind buy this gen (first was Zack & Wiki and I ended up not liking it) so I hope I don't get burned on it. All I know is it's an action game where you have lightning powers and it's made by the guys who made Rocket: Robot on Wheels (I've never played a Sly Cooper game and honestly don't have any desire to).

Why blind buy when you can play the demo that's going up later on today on PSN?

Everytime I read the Eurogamer, I get the sense that they've only given it a 7/10 cause they really enjoyed the game but hate the flaws in the game so much giving it a 7 would have motivated the team to iron them specific flaws completely for the next iteration of Infamous.

An 8/10 would have just meant they wouldn't take thier words as seriously. I think this is what Edge tried to with Killzone 2. It's like an exam, don't expect the examiner to be so nice.

Too bad your logic does not follow with most of the other 9s and 10s that they give, unless you think those games have nothing to improve. The reviewers job is to make a recommendation, not give a message to developers. A 7/10 says "it's ok" when we know by now (demo + reviews) the game is among the best this gen.
