inFAMOUS - The oFFicial Thread

I let a friend borrow Killzone 2 the other day and she didn't even know the game existed.

Well, the (lack of) marketing for KZ2 has been discussed to death in several other threads.

Best not bring it in here.

Thehut.com has the limited edition going for €46.

I so bought that today.

Regular price for the LE seems to be €69,99 in my country...(NL)

Yay me.

Finally installed the demo. First impression that popped in my head... damn, this game needs some AA. Other than that, i'm loving the demo. I love how they implemented land assist, it always seems like when i'm jumping i'm always landing exactly where I intend to. Very nice.

I played the demo last night and that's was pretty much exactly my train of thought. Graphics are largely forgettable, other than some good particle effects, but its funny how little it already matters when you're more than one minute in the game. I completely forgot that there's visible aliasing as soon as I started playing it. Controls are spot on, for both shooting and sense of physical control over the character for a game like this where you want to quickly get places without missing a beat. I also have to commend comic book style cutscenes that have great writing and voice work.

The game is really much more fun than I thought it would be. It probably is the most fun and quailty superhero game there is. Still, I'm very skeptical that any open world game can hold my interest for long. Then again, this is fun, and it comes with Uncharted 2 beta. Decisions...

Just about every (reasonable, non-biased) critic who's played through the entire game has said it's held their interest and was really fun.

This is just 2 guys' opinion, but you should probably listen to PS Nation's latest podcast. The inFAMOUS talk begins at the 52 minute mark.

Okay, is there something I'm missing with the save system or what?

I finished a mission earlier, a long one, saved as soon as the next Day began, and quit out. I load up, and it puts me back to where I was BEFORE I did the mission, as if I didn't do it at all.

This is the SECOND time this has happened to me, so I ask: what the fuck??

The manual says the game saves at regular intervals/checkpoints and all - I did an ENTIRE mission, and got up to the next part of the story, but the autosave didn't save any of my progress!!! Arghh

Earlier in this topic someone explicitly said you HAVE to save the game manually before quitting if you don't want that to happen.

I just played the demo. Wonderful. I don't see why everyone is upset about AA and jaggies though, it didn't look overly aliased to me.

Didn't bother me either on my 40"

When I said "I saved as soon as the next Day began", I meant saved manually.

It still happened - and I tried both the autosave and manual one.
Blah.
I'm halfway through said mission again... lol

Because some people need something to nit pick about. It's 720P no AA, which slightly above average this gen. The world is pretty low contrast, the only time aliasing stands out is when something bright is against the background that is blurred due to the DOF. I think they should have done something like AoT did, 720P rendered buffered and downsized to something like 685P to reduce aliasing at the expense of black borders which are hidden by overscan on some TVs. They could probably make the downscaling an option.

Amazon shipped my order, so Tuesday it is.

Having played the demo, something I didn't like was how sticky your character could be to grapple points and ledges. Often I'd be trying to jump down to the street and have to detach from something two time before I hit the bottom. I'd sort of like it if the game had a button you could hold down or something to not attach to anything if you didn't want to.

Mine shipped today from Amazon too. I really wish they'd have released this in time for the holiday weekend, I've got a freaking four day weekend this weekend and it would have been great to have time to play it.

A few others have suggested this as well. I hope SP patches it in, its the only time when you feel you have to fight the controls, everything else is so well done.

Eh thats more a workaround than anything else.

Well crap in a hat. I played the demo and thought it was ok but not something I wanted to buy. Well I forgot I had preordered it a week ago at Walmart.com and I went to cancel it but they already shipped it out.

I guess i'm going to be putting a sealed copy of this up in the buy sell thread by the end of the week. It's alright just not really into it. Maybe I will give the demo another whirl later. I hate to say it just right now i'm more excited for Cross Edge.

Thank God the demo really told the story of the full game. Why no score for this small snippet of the game? I know it's only an hour demo but that should be good enough.

I got 20% in (according to my save, anyhow) and then my optical drive started having some issues. Voices weren't loading, one time I got stuck running against an area that hadn't loaded, and so on.

Doing a backup now, just in case I have to get it serviced, but given how much use my PS3 has gotten in the last 30 months, I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised. Sad that I may have to pause my progress through the game, since I have been completely into it.

(It does crack me up that it's almost two years to the day since my 360 red ringed, which coincidentally happened while I was trying to play Crackdown before the Halo 3 beta came out. Open world superhero games are the death of me. :/)

Well it does. inFamous demo does a great job in showing exactly how the final game plays out. Chances are that if you don't like the demo, you won't like the full game either.

They should've packaged the demo at 60 dollars then.

FYE I agree.

I don't know if anyone else noticed people taking pictures of Cole? It's a great touch, but I wish those actual posters would turn up as posters around the city. A feature to let you see the last 40 or 50 pictures taken of you would have been money.

Based on the demo, I have no doubt that this is a high quality game, but I have to be very careful about any free roaming game - they almost as a rule never hold my attention for very long.

Spoilerish question for anyone else who is playing the Evil path:

I got heroic karma for defeating Sasha. Is there a way to get evil karma? I hadn't saved for a bit before that mission so I'd hate to have to redo shit but I'd prefer to not get heroic karma if at all possible.

Thanks!

Just played the demo. Holy shit.
That was probably the most fun I've had playing any demo to date. Im SO tempted to buy this game soon now, but I am trying to stick to my current guns and beat Valkyria Chronicles and Prince of Persia...

After one minute of being in the game, I loved. Like almost every here said, controls are almost perfect, its fast paced, and easy to do almost everything in a badass way. Such as killing a guy on a roof....

Stun him > Climb wall quickly > kick him off the 50ft roof > jump down after him and SLAM! (just in case he isn't dead yet)

So awesome.

EDIT: One weird thing though, was the freakishly high amount of people that happened to have cameras on them. I swear 1/4 people in InFamous are freelance photographers.:lol

You sir, are a fucking idiot and need to go back and look at some PS2 games.

Even the best looking PS2 games (God of War 2) don't look as good as this.

So tired of bullshit troll posts like this on GAF.

Shinjitsu

I guessed you missed the quotes around my comment. I'd not read any reviews, impressions or anything about this game, just came in cold and played the demo. I thought, "PS3 exclusive = visually this is going to be special" Guess I had my expectations set too high.

But thanks, for the personal attack you fucking cunt.

I don't want to get in the way of a conversation that is so above me, but you could've just said that the first time. :lol

Why are you on his back because the demo didn't convince him? He said it seemed alright, just not something he wanted, that's what demo's are for, to help you make your mind up.

I didn't miss the quotes, the fact is you still said it looked like a PS2 game. It doesn't, and you need your eyes checked if you think it does.

And you're welcome.

It does have some issue visually, most noticeably for me was the aliasing and pop-in, also I feel the blur affect it uses to hide the lack of detail in distant objects starts a little too close. I wouldn't call the game ugly, but like I said in my first impression, it's a little rougher around the edges than I expected it to be.

But what does it really matter when the game plays so well.

Sounds like NY to me. Every tom, dick and harry has a camera in this city. Taking close up, black and white shots of Stop signs and shit.

I haven't read this whole thread, but did anyone else get fucked over with no Uncharted beta voucher? I'm happy to have the game early, but pissed about not having the beta code.

I think almost everyone who got it early is missing out on the beta code..I know I didn't get one. Thanks to Qore I'll have it after all.

*in Hank Hill voice* Are you on something son?

I tried it again and yea I just can't get into it. I actually think the big turn off for me is its too open. I could never get into GTA games for the same reason. Good game and is a nice exclusive.

Thankfully though I see I can return the game to Walmart. I am thinking i'm going to exchange it for some bustin action. Of the ghost variety. Or maybe lots of toilet paper.

Not sure how anyone can say this game looks bad. Took pics from another forum.
Offscreen shots hide the jaggies.

Game doesn't look bad at all, but I'm not gonna lie and say it isn't really jaggy.

BobTheFork said:
Yeah, don't be fooled; Even if you don't see jaggies in stills or while playing, they are there and they ruin the game.

You're not serious are you?

Do people really get worked up that much over graphics? I only noticed the lack of aliasing once, when I was standing around and realized how jaggy a particular shadow was.

This game has a decent number of short comings but for some reason the core elements are so much fun that I am able to look past them.
