inFAMOUS - The oFFicial Thread

Can't believe how solid Sony's first parties this gen have become this gen. They really are top class, and InFAMOUS is clearly a top game worthy of its high metacritic score.

It's easily the best playing sandbox game I've ever played. I cannot go back to the shit combat/controls of other overrated sandbox games in comparison.

Just played the demo yesterday and I have to agree with this. The feel of inFamous is incredible. From the admittedly small amount of time I've spent with it, it seems to have an almost Miyamoto-level of polish to the feel and mechanics. It's just a joy to control Cole. It has that intangible feeling in your hands that's hard to describe, but you know it when you're experiencing it. When I handed the controller to my buddy sitting next me, I said, "You have to feel this to believe it." We were both pulling off badass maneuvers with ease, and not because the game was doing it for us or because we didn't know what the hell we were doing (as with some flashy fighting games), but because inFamous just nails the feel.

Needless to say the demo absolutely sold me, and I cannot wait to get my hands on this.

Guys, the game is awesome and all, but at the end of the day it's a sandbox game. So expect a lot of rough edges here and there, unless your definition of "polish" is way more forgiving than mine.

SUCCESS!!

(really happy I finally found it - fucking 2 hours later!!!)

Oh, and as for the Uncharted beta, thank god for Qore. <3

I dont think anyone who got the game early got the Uncharted 2 beta code.
Hmm...possibly. Then again all the copies of the game in the back of gamestop currently have a beta indicator on the front cover if I remember correctly.

I think that one's in the demo, haha. I kept falling in the water trying to get it.
So what happens when you get all shards? Do you get unlimited lightning?

Yeah it is, unfortunately. I got it in the demo but I guess I forgot it was there once I got the game. lol

As for getting all the shards: just a bronze trophy. Nothing in-game (at least, not that I've noticed... I wasn't expect anything new, though).
You stop getting new battery cores around the 300 mark, by the way.

EDIT: Oh, and you can get unlimited lightning but only temporarily. See the screen, the Karmic Overload thing? That's it.
If you're completely Good or completely Evil, you can get Karmic Overload which gives you unlimited energy for about 10 or 15 seconds... really good for big firefights and such. After it's done, though, you need to build up more karma to be able to use it again. Doesn't take much to be able to use it again, though, as long as you don't get the wrong kind of XP (good/evil).

Uhhhhh, no. The platforming is forgiving and the mechanics are far from tight as a result. Also, there will be many times where you hit Circle to drop down and your character either ends up dropping down the wrong side or rolling instead. It's pretty damn far from "Miyamoto-level of polish".

In fact, Infamous is a little rough around the edges when it comes to control and mechanics. Crackdown had control and mechanics that were far tighter than Infamous.

Crackdown's controls were an exercise in frustration when it comes to moving around the world. I wouldn't call that 'tight', I'd call that pretty sloppy. Seeing the character make huge leaps while flailing his arms around the world only to sometimes grab on to the ledge you intend to is exactly what I'd call 'rough'.

InFAMOUS does it right. It's forgiving, but it allows you to navigate the environment with ease and with style, which is a heck of a lot more fun than the clunky platforming seen in a game like Crackdown.

sounds like user error. There are games with tighter controls, CrackDown was sure not one of them.

Why are people comparing this to crackdown? In this game youre grabbing on things, sliding on things, majestically gliding through the air etc etc.

Alls you did in Crackdown was jump really high and grab on ledges. Of course the controls were "tighter". They didnt let you do shit.

This can be compared to Assassins Creed yes but in that game, they chose to keep it so grounded in reality that the platforming was boring. You were either holding X to run forward or watching Altair climb a wall REALLY slowly grabbing on to each nook as he came across it.

I prefer the rather floaty/sticky controls in infamous. They allow for some sense of "finesse" and flow. They even let you CONTROL your character.

Should of been the Gigawatt blades at least for all shards.

All I can say is when my copy comes from Amazon tomorrow it better have a U2 beta code. If not, I am going to play inFamous evil style to unleash my anger.

They sent me an email telling me it was coming with the beta, you didn't get one?

Just beat my first playthrough. Fucking awesome. Didn't get any trophies, though. :\

Now to get all the shards, then be infamous.

Also, craaazy end game spoilers for those who beat it already and may know:

I chose to break the ray sphere. Does using it actually nab you anything new? I'm replaying the last 2 missions to get to that decision, since I didn't save sooner to that point.

how'd you playthrough the whole game and not get any trophies?

I got plenty of trophies. I didn't for "beating" it. On Hard, at that. I switched to Hard on the game's request/recommendation. But yeah, beat it, no trophy. *shrug*

I think you dont get the trophy if you change the difficulty setting midway.

Well, first step, get the YOU BEAT DA GAME trophy, second step caring about Hard. It's pretty early on that the game tells you to change to hard, and when you start a new game it doesn't ask you to choose a difficulty. We'll see.

I'm getting the shards now, havent found the time to play much this weekend, my next playthrough will be evil cole on hard setting.

So, is it recommended to play on Hard or normal?

KZ2 on hard was...way too hard...especially at the end versus Radec.

Is this fairly enjoyable on hard and not too frustrating?

So I'm picking it up tomorrow. What do you guys who have it recommend playing as first? In the demo I noticed his grenades as evil are badass. Are both paths pretty balanced or can I expect cooler stuff on the darkside?

There's cooler stuff on the darkside i'd say. If you're gonna play both paths anyways, start with the good cole.

Im playing it on good because I assumed (and I could be wrong) that the story wouldnt make a lick of sense playing as a bad guy. Youd be a "bad" guy doing all these "good" things by helping the city. Youd just be kind of a douche is all :lol

Made more sense to go through it as a hero so the narrative would make sense the first time. Oddly enough Im a full blown hero but all I do is kill civilians. Theyre always "in the way" of my shock grenades. I blame them.

I was so excited about the demo till i started playing it! my first question is, why is this game so hyped? second, i have no idea what the F is going in that game! third, i keep dying randomly no knowing where i'm getting shot at from! is it me or the game? luckily i only have the demo....i tried several times to like it, but it's just not sinking in! am i missing something? is the full game better than the demo?

I don't agree. The controls are very tight. Also, the concept in the controls is quite different compared to your normal super mario game. Infamous is perfect in what it does control wise.

EDIT:

Also the spot is WOW.

I'm playing it on normal and it's pretty challenging so far, especially when you venture into a territory you haven't captured or powered its supply up.
