inFAMOUS - The oFFicial Thread

Crackdown probably shouldn't be in that paragraph.

of course it should. infamous takes the crackdown "god in a city" approach, has the same addictive platforming elements but adds more story-centered side missions. crackdown had platform races, driving races, stunt zones, orb hunting and all sorts of fun stuff to do. but it wasn't tied together with a decent story or as slick a presentation.

here's another game that infamous reminds me of: New Prince of Persia.

infamous uses the same concept of adding power to a map zone (finding the fertile ground) which then revitalizes the area and gives you more powers (the colored launch pads and light seeds in POP).

thankfully, there's a lot more to do in infamous than POP, but the map clearing concept is nearly identical.

Also Cole is not nearly annoying as the Prince.

What a great game; played another hour this morning.

I think this game is a testament to how simple and fun gameplay goes a loooong way towards making a good game. The missions are very simple, the enemies so far have been extremely similar, and the combat is very repetitive. But the sheer fun of using your powers and working towards incremental upgrades in powers, plus the fun platforming, makes me not want to stop playing.

OMFGG?!?!!?!? oomfgggggg that ending was amazing omfg !??! who would have thought part fucking 2 here we come !!!!! that was epic
Did you also see Kessler's revelation from a mile away? I was a little underwhelmed by the revelation, but the background story as to why he did it all was obviously new (and exciting).

I truly hope that Sucker Punch lets us continue our good/evil paths from the first game (from our previous saves or something)... I'd love to continue working with Sasha. :D

SCEE's flickr got some awesome high res art, very very wallpaper worthy:

oh please FKN Junior...

You were a junior at some point. Everyone has a right to their opinion and should be allowed to express it, whether it's their first post or their thousandth, especially if they can back it up.

I'm loving the game myself since I'm a big fan of open world games, but I can fully understand how some people might not like it, especially those who prefer traditional level-based games.

And dissent should be allowed in the official thread so we don't have to have the stupid "inFamous hate" thread.

---------

Did anyone ever find a confirmed source of how many shards per island and a full listing of the stunts?

There was one posted earlier in the thread, I believe. But I think only the Neon District had been calculated. It was something like 144.

I've got 144 now, but I know at least one person said they got 145, and somewhere else I thought I saw 146. Oh well, I'll go dig into the thread to find it...

I think Neon has 145 shards.

As for the full list of stunts:

Air Strike: Kill an enemy with Lightning Bolt while Cole is airborne.
Crush: Kill an enemey by crushing them with an object (car, bike, dumpster).
Sticky Bomb: Kill an enemy by sticking a shock grenade to them.
Highfall: Kill an enemy by making them fall from a high place.
Enviro Take Down: Kill an enemy with enviromental explosion.
Blast & Bolt: Kill an airborne enemy with Lightning Bolt.
Flying Head Shot: Head shot an air borne enemy.
Air Sticky Bomb: Kill an air borne enemy by sticking a grenade to them.
Flying Melee: Kill an air borne enemy with melee.
Insult To Injury: Stick a grenade to an enemy, then kill them before it explodes.
Wack A Mole: Kill a Conduit with Thunder Drop.
Suspended Sentence: Kill an air borne enemy with Thunder Storm.
Unquenchable Thirst: Transfer to 4 different grinds without touching anything else.
Melee Finisher: Kill 3 enemies back to back with melee.
Premature Detonation: Kill an enemy by making a Kamikaze enemy explode near them.
Crowd Control: Kill 5 Enemies at once.
Splash and Clash: While air borne shoot and enemy with lightning then do a thunder drop on the same enemy.
Up Close and Personal: Kill 4-6 enemies in a row with melee only.
Right Back at Ya: Kill and enemy with his own grenade.
Have a Nice Fall: Take down 3 enemies at once with one shockwave off a roof.

I think I probably enjoyed crackdown more. Since MS just shipped my 360 back I'll be sure to try and clear up the pink fog of nostalgia as soon as possible. But my main problems are probably the fact that the combat is not fun for me. The enemies are rather are pretty tough and challenging but instead of being fun it just makes the game aggravating for me.

I haven't had the chance to dig into the platforming just yet because its pretty much crap until you get the grind and flying powers. I am being a bit harsh, but on purpose because at least on the first island there is absolutely no evident challenge to platforming what so ever, there hasn't been a single place that i had difficulty getting to. So it seems to me the fun is in the crazy things you can do by chaining the speed of the rail grind and using the flying power to get from one rail to another.

Also I avoided going on any crazy rampages because the whole morale system made seem like i should avoid that.

I guess the best comparison would be that Crackdown is trying to make it as fun as possible to play around in the sandbox while inFamous is trying to add depth/story/detail to the sandbox element.

Well, you would love this.

You were right, sir.

THIS GAME IS FUCKING AWESOME. :| Seriously. I really, really like this game. Thunder Drop is the coolest/most hilarious move ever. This game is like Crackdown with electricity, and you can't jump as high. Still awesome though. I really, really, really like this game. :D

Thank you very much!!!

I just counted the shards at IGN and came up with 145. I'm pretty happy with myself that I managed to find 144 of them on my own :)

If you prefer level based games to sandbox games, then why heck would you bother playing sandbox games to begin with?

I prefer vaginal, but I can settle with anal.

So, you'll settle for the anal knowing you don't like it then hop on the interwebs to complain about anal while wishing it was vaginal? Why not take a detour for oral? :lol

Otherwise known as ass to mouth.

You know that it's still possible to enjoy something even if it's not your absolute favorite thing in the world, right? These days, I prefer Western RPGs to Eastern RPGs, but I still play the occasional Eastern RPG if it's good.

I can totally see a Sucker Punch fan picking this up to see if it changes their mind about open world games. I've seen plenty of people in this thread saying "I don't like open world games, but I love inFamous," so naturally you're going to have a few people also saying "I don't like open world games, and inFamous doesn't change my mind."

By your logic, all of the previous open world haters who jumped in and are loving it would never have even tried the game in the first place. What sense does that make?

And props to whoever for topping my RPG comparison with vag/anal.

Holy fuck this game is addicting. I love it! Especially when the enemies get harder, so much better than canon fodder in other games. =D

Sure. Duh. However, it is what it is. It an open world game. Wishing it was an action game is an empty complaint because you played it knowing what it is. It's cool if you still don't like open world games after playing it. It's cool if this turns you. However, I just find complaining that something is what it is a hollow complaint.

Sometimes, in the heat of the moment, it's forgivable to go ass to mouth.

"Heh! I knew it..."

Damn the few sub 8/10 scores on metacritic have some funny ass quotes. One of them said infamous was a great game but if you only have a 360 buy crackdown instead.. another one read like the guy watched a few videos and maybe played the demo..

Heh yeah, everyone already knows crackdown is great.

Edit: Well they have some good ones, its not like infamous is perfect.

One thing on the game. It's so hard NOT to be evil. For me, it's not the story choices or the missions... it's a Thunder Drop. It's so stupidly fuckawesome to drop from stupid heights onto the ground with that move. However, if I do it, I nuke tons of people. :lol Thing is, it's so fun, I can see myself giving in and turning evil solely on that move.

Wow... I really do not know how some of those reviews make it into metacritic.

I am truly loving this game to death and it's taking so long to complete too. :D

My karma ranking is Heroe!

When I replay the game going to try being evil.

Im just loving the climbing for the dishes and only on first proper mission as got em all on 1st island with a load of shards.

Very addictive indeed and I aint a fan of pigeon side missions :lol

13 on Neon

You'll know you have them all when the trophy pops up :)

Ah, I was wondering since I'm not getting pings at all anymore. I think I have 11. I'm hesitant to do story missions because I don't want to get forced off the island.

Is there a trophy for finding all shards? That might be a pain in the ass. (I'll have to go back to that stupid tree!)

I spotted some Reapers doing there usual kill everything that moves, so being the hero that I am, I thunder dropped into them. There weren't really any people close enough to be killed so I thought I'd be ok. Problem was it set off a chain reaction of cars flying and exploding everywhere.

I had to book it out of there when a squad of police officers gave chase. And those guys are determined.

If I finish the game good and start the next game evil, do my miles traveled carry over for those achievements? I don't have the train tracks achievement yet. Also, I don't have the shards and shit, so maybe I should just wait before I start to play evil.

Question: When the other islands open up, can I move from to the other when I want? Or do I need to gather everything/complete all side missions before moving to the next? :D

Can you keep two saves at once? If not, no big, I'll continue my Good side game. Just so hard to resist being a jerk...

The Karma impact from civilian casualties like that seems to be effectively negligible. You don't even get an evil XP number for it, just a flash of red on the meter which leads me to believe it's less than 1 XP in effect. Even running down a street Jesus'ing a dozen people back to life in short order for 36 good XP has no visible effect on the meter.

Yeah...but I'll feel bad. Which is the weird part. =)

I'm loving this. It's like a more nuanced Crackdown.

The only complaint I have is that sometimes it's hard to tell where you are being shot at from.

this, i wish there was like a indicator blip on the radar for when enemies that are too far away spot you and shoot you. Like a red dead drop indicator or something. Definitely not a big deal though if you do the side missions as you get that less and less :P

OH FFS !!!!!

I imported Infamous just for the English track & U2b code and all my friends from Spain not only are getting a patch with the optional English track but they've been given a code for the U2b, I thought this was exclusive for UK online retailers! FFFUUUUUUU!!!!

depends how far you are into the game as well, when you first move up a rank, a bad thunder drop will drop you back down, and you'll lose your power bonuses if you bought it. After a few missions though it took a while of blowing up cars and electrifying people to death before I dropped rank again.

I finally had time to start playing last night and I didn't stop till 2 am.
Absolutely love this game some of the most fun I have had in a long time.

I don't like that there are so few ways to kill baddies, it sort of gets old after a while. Maybe I don't like that the game set the difficulty to hard because now I find some of the missions pretty difficult due to limited way to kill the creeps. (The missions where you have to destroy the sludge trucks are pretty difficult on hard, you get swarmed and I find it difficult to use the tools given to me to complete them). Maybe because I'm trying hard to be 'heroic' and purposely try not to have 'collateral damage'.

The power you get with the Gamestop preorder, Am I missing out on anything worth while? I'm sure it was probably debated to death but I absolutely hate the fact that they used an in game power as a preorder incentive.

when you get towards the end of the first island, you definitely have enough tools to make it interesting to fight baddies.

anyone know when play.com will send out codes? I know they say before the beta starts, which is apprently next week for the US. No idea when the beta will start for Europe.

Also, Play.com delivered early for once :D
