Out of all those names listed, I only know Ed Boon. And I've been a huge gamer my whole life. Ed is just a very public game personality

I still love his almost yearly Giant Bomb interviews or guest appearances. Does anyone have a link to the moment when they reminded him that they actually shipped a game with a kart racing game?

Scorpion vs Batgirl, Zod and Lobo? And of course horror movie icons sell more than Bo'Rai Cho, Tanya, and Tremor

It was rigged in their favor by Bushy-Brow-san

He outsold Manhunter and Zatanna as well, plus Batgirl is really popular. Freddy outsold Kenshi,Rain, and Skarlet.

Tremor came about because of fans voicing how much they wanted him in the game, just like Lobo, and they were still outsold.

Guest characters always appeal to casuals more. Freddy is an icon whereas Rain, Skarlet, and Kenshi aren't. I do hope we don't get any MK guests though. They get a whole game next cycle where whatever popular character will definitely be in. I want comic guest characters like Spawn

THANK GOD! I need a happy cry gif stat. This is exactly what I was hoping they would do. I was going to be devastated if gear was disabled for ranked competely and everyone's characters would just be standard appearance. May is too far away :(.

It will be interesting to see what becomes the most popular mode online. People always get excited about create-a-character type stuff on paper, but in practice, I wonder how much staying power an online mode will all gear modifiers will be. Did anyone play Heroes and Heralds or Omega mode online? Perhaps it's partly due how the developer implements it. However, I think customizable character properties in fighters are inherently problematic and it's fun for messing around briefly, but that's it.

Many are already intimidated by fighters and don't like losing, but I imagine they would like it even less when they feel their opponent has an unfair advantage with random loot drop buffs. I see people getting way more frustrated with it than playing in a mode that they feel the developer is actually trying to balance, rather than one where there will surely be people looking for the most broken setup.

It's good there will be options for both, but I'm skeptical of the customization effect mode having much of a sustained userbase. I'm hoping the balanced mode with parts just as cosmetics will be the standard. We shall see.

Can't remember the exact quote but it's more than likely confirmed there will be an MK guest character

Someone asked Boon before will there an MK guest character

Boon replied "considering how well Scorpion Sold, it's a high possibility"

I'm paraphrasing but it definitely looked like a yes to me

I don't like it.
But from a business standpoint it makes too much sense

Yeah, the cosmetic only gear mode is what I'm celebrating. I was hoping they wouldn't remove it altogether for the tournament modes. I think heroes and heralds is a good comparison but I can easily see this here being very popular. NRS games sell a shit ton of copies and most of those players are casual players. I think it's nice to have something fun for people wanting to focus more on just having fun than all the technicalities and specifics that come with fighters. Casuals might lose a match because the opponent has some sort of OP gear that gives a new special move that can be acquired through loot drops, and that removes that barrier of "I lost because this person understands frame data and combos" lol. I know how awful that sounds to some but a majority of people buying the game are going to be casual players and not people who devote a lot of time to learning the ins and outs of combo and system mechanics. They'll have their modes and those of us who are serious about competing (like me, though I suck) will have our modes.

On the positive side, Sub Zero guest character means two more years of Tom complaining about the Ice Clone.

8 AM CST is standard time for a Boon reveal. So keep your eyes peeled.

They should be able to make pretty much any character fun, though. The question is whether he's necessary.

I'd always say, in theory, "no", but Ed Boon is quick to point out their wackier and more ill-fitting guest characters always sell more than actual in-universe characters.

Hence why, despite there being nearly 50 unplayable Mortal Kombat characters in MKX, there's still DLC for Predator, Alien, Jason, and Leatherface.

And at least Sub-Zero has SOME history with the DC folks, but I understand that a company that's nearly a century old with thousands upon thousands of characters may not "need" a guest character.

That leaked roster only gives us six females. The same as last time
"More girl power" might not necessarily be referring to a number, especially in the context of that Tweet. He's answering a question about two specific characters. Plus, that's a really old Tweet, and assuming the leak is legitimate, there's a chance that Cheetah and Power Girl were made into actual clone characters and not just alternate costumes.
