[Insider Gaming] Star Wars Eclipse development is making very little progress

LectureMaster

Or is it just one of Adam's balls in my throat?

What's really going on with Star Wars Eclipse? First announced at The Game Awards in 2021, information regarding the action-adventure game from developer Quantic Dream has been few and far between.

The last update anyone has heard in an official capacity was that work was continuing on the game alongside other projects. All that was said was that they were "eager to share more with you in the future."

Well, months and multiple discussions later, there's a bit of an update on where things stand with both the game and its developer.

As first mentioned during the latest episode of Insider Gaming Weekly, development on Star Wars Eclipse has been "very slow going". One source even mentioned the fact that the team had been making "very little progress over months." For what it's worth, a good portion of the game has been completed, but, for what they still need to wrap up, sources say it hasn't been going all that well.

"The game, at this stage, is still looking to be years off from completion," one source said back in December.

When followed up on what can be done to push up the timeline and get a game out, that same source said they had talks of expanding the development staff, but NetEase didn't want to invest at that moment, while they decided what they wanted to do long-term. Both NetEase and Quantic Dream, the source says, are really relying on Spellcasters Chronicles, which entered Early Access in February, to bring in revenue that can then be spent on Eclipse's development.

"At this stage, the long-term outlook is less driven by creative capabilities and more by financial viability," they said. "Should Spellcasters fail commercially, NetEase is expected to reevaluate its commitment to the studio and could opt to discontinue further investment."

Neither Quantic Dream nor parent company NetEase responded to multiple requests for comment on this story.

What has Quantic Dream been doing all those years after Detroit? Just fucking slacking for 8 years?

If survival of QD depends on some random shitty cartoon fortnite looking multiplayer gaas trash they whipped out, QD is dead.

Shame though, I would like to play their take on Star Wars.

But 8 years without a proper game is ridiculous.

Are they not letting David Cage do interviews where he says weird stuff anymore?

Maybe he's busy training an AI to create images of the characters for his personal collection

I think Quantic Dream would have been a better fit for a Star Trek game, I would actually play that. I enjoyed Beyond Two Souls, but that was mainly cause the casting was so good. Never finished Detroit, I should get to that.

They developed and released a game into early access.

And before anyone asks why, it's in the OP

Poor David Cage.
His expertise lies in making shitty interactive movies. Now the future of his studio might depend on somehow turning their DOA live service game into a success
