A single player blockbuster is done when someone finishes it and trades it into GameStop for a quarter. A good MP game gains tens of millions of players and lives on for years after its launch.
That doesn't apply to most multiplayer games though. Many multiplayer games generally lose many players after a few months unless you are a juggernaut like COD, LOL, Fortnite, etc. Tomb Raider, MAG and Avengers are good examples I feel.
I think people are sleeping on the obvious here, which is VR. Insomniac developed a bunch of VR titles for Oculus, including two of which are multiplayer, and they own all that IP now (though it's like SO where that doesn't include the original games)
Sony is gonna need PSVR2 stuff and Incomniac is one of their most experienced devs in that area. This could definitely be a new Stormland or something, or an original VR IP.
