Interested in Lies of P - would it fit what I'm looking for?

I'm kind of up for a Soulslike right now, but in these types of games I'm much more of a fan of dodging than parry systems. In fact, I hate parrying in games. Absolutely loathe it. I've heard this is heavily parry based, which is why I've avoided it, but maybe it doesn't need to be. I don't know--you tell me.

Also looking for one that isn't super unforgiving. I'm a little burned out of the Soulslike games that make you want to pull your hair out. I'm for challenge, but something you can play a little more relaxed.

Would Lies of P fit the bill for me?

In my opinion, Stellar blade is much more fit for you, it has excellent combat, fast, and you may parry or dodge, but Lies of P is not bad. Either of the two.

I'd also consider Banishers Ghosts of New Eden

Not a Soulslike exactly but its close enough, not that difficult, lasts awhile and has a great story. Also a more relaxed experience than anything From related (or Lies of P)

Yout get by fine without parrying for like 90% of the game, it's actually somewhat "easy" even since the game (thankfully) offers you summons at some bosses.

Then, later on, like one of the very last few bosses heavily requires you parrying imo. Or I just suck, or maybe at little bit of both. But I just dropped the game because the last third became kinda boring (level design feels unimaginative, boring, dragging) and so I just didn't want to continue. Which is kind of a shame. Still a good game, especially for their first entry into the genre, just something to keep in mind.

I don't totally remember since I played it over a year ago but I don't tend to parry as much as I dodge in souls games. And I don't recall parrying very often at all. So I'm gonna go with parrying isn't that necessary. Wonderful game though.

Lies of P is an interesting mish mash of Bloodborne and Sekiro, in my opinion. And I Iove both of those games, but I kind of wish the developers hadn't blended them, because I remember enjoying myself doing lots of dodging and such for many, many hours. But then I started to ht several roadblocks, where I had to engage with the parrying system.

I feel as though had they leaned into the Sekiro style combat from the very beginning, I would have been much more prepared for the more challenging bosses and enemies, instead of "Have fun playing Bloodborne again! No, wait, Bloodborne is over now. Forget everything you just did for the last 20 hours. Now you're playing Sekiro. So you have to learn how to parry against the hardest enemies in the game and the parry timing is different from Sekiro."

That being said, echoing other people in this thread, I think Stellar Blade might be more what you're looking for.

To play Lies of P really well you'll have to do a healthy mix of parrying and dodging. If you hate parrying though, the game is not for you. Some bosses will absolutely fuck your shit up if you can't parry.

Lords of The Fallen ...

Is basically a clone of Dark Souls with some different gimmicks ..

I loved the game and quite frankly never understood the backlash ..

The different builds are fun and it has high replayability just like DS.

I enjoy it wayyy more than Lies of Pi .

Only did 1 run in lies of PI ... did multiples in LOTF.

Lies of PI is way more parry centric.

Probably not, since you don't like parrying and Lies of P can be extremely hard depending on the player.

Another option is Stellar Blade, which is more forgiving difficulty wise, is less focused on the parry system and can be played on the easy mode, in case you get frustrated with it.

Also, there's a Stellar Blade trial for PS Plus members and Lies of P is available on gamepass.

Defo not lies of P, parry is a big part of what makes the game shine and its a big focus of what the game encourages you to learn to get through it
Stella blade would be better for sure.

Lies of P is the perfect game for you and what you are looking for IMHO. I was in your same boat, and so glad I decided to give it a chance. It is currently one of my favs. Has the spirit of Bloodborne. It is a must play for Bloodborne fans. I think you would really be doing a disservice to yourself to not play it.

I hate Sekiro. I hate Wo Long. I got you bro. We are the same. Get Lies of P. The people telling you not do get it don't understand.

If you get it, and you love it, please come back here to tell them how wrong they were, because I think I know the exact type of gamer your are from the OP and I think this one is perfect for you.

If you get it and hate it, feel free to come back in here and roast me for it, but the decision is yours. Choose wisely. It is also important to know that the game I hear kinda launched in a not perfect state but when I played it it was perfect. The atmosphere is where its at. I don't even remember parrying in the game, though I'm sure it's a big part. I just remember that atmosphere the song, the perfect difficulty curve that is better than any fromsoft difficultly curve. This game is not a copy, it's an ode. It's a love letter. It is a love letter to Bloodborne and every Fromsoft fan should play it. Especially if you hate Sekiro like I did.

Stellar Blade is also great but man so m any people sleeping on the masterpiece that is lies of p. Tied with Nioh 2 for best non-from souls game and slightly ahead of wukong.

Play Wukong instead.

You can definitely dodge (especially after you upgrade the dodge skill) but i think the game is slightly more parry heavy tbh.

Like someone else said, wukong is the better choice for a dodge focused game.

But they are both great games.

Lords of the Fallen is pretty good and doesn’t require parrying from what I remember. It has nice visuals because it uses UE5 and it has a nice interconnected world. The biggest negative to it is the bosses which are mostly average or mediocre. It doesn’t come close to any of From’s game wrt bosses. You also spend a lot of time in an alternate realm in the game called the Umbral realm and it becomes a bit tedious there. It’s more fun in the normal realm. But it’s a decent game.

Lies of P is great but it doesn't fit your criteria. Parrying is more important in LoP than in any From game other than Sekiro, and imo has the most difficult bosses of any soulslike I've played, barring outliers like Melenia/Fraudahn.

What games are good for parrychads like myself?

Check out Nine Sols if you haven't, an excellent parry based metroidvania.

Holy shit, I completely disagree. I think it's the closest a game has gotten to a from game.
Disagree with this. Easily one of, if not the best.

I actually think it's better than some of From's games.
Definitely agree with this sentiment. People were really concerned after playing the demo, but the full game is wonderful.

A lot of Soulslike games that aren't FromSoft almost always feel off to me. Hard to describe. But Lies of P felt really good to me pretty quickly.

I love Soulslike games, but I'm not a HUGE parry hound myself. LoP DOES have areas where parrying is necessary, but it wasn't enough to bother me whatsoever. I loved the game and can't wait for the sequel.

Play Wukong. There is no parry. There is only a dodge.
Stellar Blade uses parrying but not difficult.
Lies of P is sekiro souls but can deal without parrying for most part

Lies of P leans heavier on parrying, but in all honesty, this is my favorite non From Soft soulslike game available. Everything from the combat, the atmosphere, story to the level design is S-tier IMHO.

Personally I found the parry window in Lies of P to be quite tight / small and harder to pull off compared to a Souls game, so I just didn't bother and used dodge outside of certain equipment that helps parry.

In terms of difficulty, it can a good challenge, but generally not as rough as some Souls stuff, though you may find 1 or 2 bosses just go against your play style and you'll feel stuck, but don't be afraid to experiment and use throwable items, it's not a weakness.

The good thing too is that the respawn lamps are pretty close to he boss area, so you don't need to worry about a long trek back. Plus you warp between spawns without any special item etc

Side note in terms of visuals and story, I think it looks better than most Souls games and actually has a coherent story that you don't need to watch a YouTube essay to understand.
