Inverted controls... Yay or Nay?

Baron Aloha

A Shining Example
Me and a friend have been playing Killer7 lately and this topic came up.

I prefer inverted controls (down is up/up is down) and he prefers normal controls. I use this setup in both FPS and flight games (StarFox, etc). It just makes more sense to me, especially in flight games since pulling down on the analog stick is similar to pulling up in a jet or whatnot.

Just wondering what you guys preferred.

hum.... I know I always use inverted for flight games, but for shooters I really can't remember.... what's the default for re4? inverted or normal? whatever it was it seemed right to me

Normal all the way, there was a time when I played with inverted controls but those days are long gone.

I noticed while playing one of the minigames in KUF that I prefer non inverted for my left thumb and inverted for my right thumb..

I get used to whatever the game's default is. Except for flight games, which I must play with inverted controls.

Same here. I like to just use the default mode. Funny, the same thing came up with my friend and I last night - also while playing Killer 7. I just left at the default, while he absolutely insisted on changing to reverse. I can play either way myself. Including flight games, but if I'm not mistaken they almost always default to reverse controls anyway.

Inverted.
I also need inverted for left/right in many games too. Especially 3rd person games.

Problem is not all of them lets you change it, just up/down. Hate that.

I always invert the Y axis....
What this guy said. I hate jumping into an FPS where someone is using normal controls. I have gotten supremely owned in Halo thanks to this mess. :( PEACE.

ever tried holding you're controller upside-down? or.. maybe.. you already are :D

I can't play very much with inverted controls. I am a pretty skilled Halo 2 player, and I use normal controls so any first-person game I play I play with normal controls because that's where my skills are honed best. If I try to play Halo 2 with inverted controls...I absolutely suck.

The only game I remember playing with inverted controls is Max Payne 2.

For anything that doesn't involve flight I'm un-inverted all the way. If I can specify inverted controls for flight I'll go with that.

Normally I prefer non-inverted controls but for any type of flight game, I can't tolerate anything but inverted controls.

A guy I know never switches the axis or any of the other settings from the game default. As a result, he plays some FPS inverted and some 'normal'. It doesn't seem to affect him a bit, but I can't imagine it!

Me, always inverted, regardless of genre.

Flight is the only time I ever use inverted, I can't play flight games without inverted controls. I probably got this from Starfox.
Other games with 3rd person perspective, I don't mind either way... but inverted controls for FPS doesn't make sense to me at all.

Always inverted for a first-person game, whether it's an FPS, a flight sim, or an MMORPG, console or PC. Trying to use so-called 'normal' controls leads to me staggering around blowing holes in the turf and killing myself with rocket launchers when I'm trying to shoot down flying enemies. :p
