I dunno, Mark as the punching bag HAS GOT TO GO. His particular blend of passive non-conformity is very grating. While I don't really care where she ends up, I think an Atom Eve focused show would be more fun. Or that juiced up Seth Rogan alien, any one really, that's actually an active participant in their own life.

Mark has an entire arc in the comics and while the show is taking the material as a serious work vs a criticism of comics. One thing I'll say is that if you're curious
Angstrom will make Mark grow and become the hero he's meant to be, they'll also be a moment with Cecil where his metamorphosis will be complete and he stops taking shit. How this will play out in the show I don't know, but at this rate it's coming

Hell of a start to the show. Episode 2 was probably the best one out of the 3 that released, but all 3 are exploring some heavy themes and questions of what is considered morally right.

I felt that both the art direction and animation took a dip in season 2. Did it get better in season 3?

The first 3 episodes are good, it's a change from the crappy season 2. But on the other hand Mark is so weak, they really need to stop making him get mistreated all the time.

Like he can't avoid the Mauler brothers' weapon?? All that so that Oliver arrives and destroys them in one hit while the previous season we were told that he was weaker than Mark. It's season 3, it's time for Mark to stop having his ass kicked by the first enemy who comes along, plus every time they give us a season introduction to say "look how much stronger he's gotten!" except that you never see it in the fights.

And the animation is still ugly. But hey, there's still some improvement to the story so we're not going to deny ourselves the pleasure.

It's mostly an act. He keeps trying to work by 'earth rules' even though he doesn't have to. I think it is a mental block, and if he lets go of that he is afraid he will be letting go of his humanity at the same time.

Keep notice to what it takes to actually injure him to where he has blood and bruises on him. Though I will admit, regarding that spoiler scene, there have been other methods throughout the show of subduing heroes as strong as even Omni-Man (aside from physical force) and both villains and the government, at all times, are trying to find as many contingencies as possible for beings as powerful as viltrumites.

I'm sure every time Cecil sees something that slightly affects Mark he instantly goes 'we can use that and crank it up to 11'.

I wanna watch it, but this split season nonsense is torture, when's the next part out? Or when will it be finished?

No break this time (thank fuckin God) as March Climber said, and the last episode will be released on March 13. I know I will wait for the end of this season to continue watching because I hate to wait every week ^^

Yeah it's just weird to see Mark struggling so much when we know what's coming...

I know it's also the same in the comics but idk, I think it's better handled. I can't wait tho

It's a 150 issue comic. It's easier to read the arc than to watch it. You guys will be happy if you stick with it. I assure you.
You have been saying this for YEARS now. When is "the good stuff"? :p

As a hyper violent cartoon it's novel enough to keep watching but otherwise this slow burn stuff needs a kick start. Half of each season could just be a montage.

It depends on what 'good stuff' means to you. If you mean DBZ battles then you'll have to wait a bit. If you mean good storytelling around heavy subject matter and moral conundrums, then you can start to jump in now.

This season will end around issue 65ish. So we aren't even halfway through the series, but this season is going to end on an awesome fight.

The season finale fight better not be bungled, and as epic as the comic or

One of my favorite moments in a comic, and it just got crazier later on.

A long way to go until
Thragg vs. Battle Beast

That fight needs one full episode to do it justice.
Right

I love how battle beast showed up early as hell but is one of the strongest characters in the whole universe.

The fights in this show are gory, but kinda dull. Mark has no real tactical skills, it's just punch punch punch. Some of the other characters show some ingenuity but its few and far between. Tahe re recent fight with the giant twins with ONE shock rifle. They take out the ENTIRE 'Justice League' team with the same trick because no one thinks to break the rifle, it's just punch punch punch.

Anyway, the show has some merits but its not a great superhero show IMHO. At least Mark has FINALLY manned up with Eve, good grief.

Felt this exact same way watching the show. Also I have been watching some fight clips from other shows. Maybe they are saving the good stuff for later? Probably not but hopefully.

Not a fan of kid omega. I forget how to do.spoilers so I'll keep it vague; trading Oliver for the 2 characters in the last episode makes my enthusiasm nose dive.

They really brought a different element and kinda speaks to the issues of shit being boring sometimes

Good VO acting from Aaron Paul this week.

This is a deep theory, but is Seance Dog supposed to be their version of Superman or maybe Captain Planet?

I wonder if this universe's Mark was the only one to actually become a fan of that character and thus that is the key thing that set him apart from the other universe Marks and helped give him a slightly better moral compass to not turn on humanity when his father did.

Rewatching episode 3 and remembering how much I hate kid omni man.

Only 24 replies for this season is super low. Maybe people on the anime thread talk about it more.

After watching solo leveling and SLF between a break in invincible, the difference in animation quality is jarring. The amount of still images used in the back and foreground of most shots is ridiculous. They allude to it in season 2 but fuck me sideways it's distracting.

not seen season 3 yet, but it's a double pronged problem because at the same time as the fights show no strategy or tactics other than punching, he's also not even doing anything that would show what he's trying in order to at least get better at all that punching. there's no sense of progression or rhyme or reason as to why he wins some fights, he just kind of does all of a sudden, while seemingly maintaining the same power level as always. like give us a training arc, or a scene showing dedication to improvement or something by now. not just over-emoting, yelling, flying and hitting.

i didn't care in season 1 as much, but by the end of season 2, when most of it is mark just screaming or getting emotional during fights, it's like cmon. the fights are a one trick pony and the trick kind of sucks (except season 1 lion guy and omni man, they're both the goats).

Ha that's funny you say that. Some of your concerns are addressed in the new season

Finally caught up. I shouldn't have done that cause now I have to wait for the season finale. I'm surprised they actually used a bunch of other heroes made by Kirkman. I for sure thought the likes of Wolf-man, Tech Jacket and Brit would just be replaced by generics so that Kirkman can shop them around for their own series. It was nice to see Best Tiger so early too. Also, the clothes that the king from the future wore is a nice touch.

You will like episode 1. One thing I will say is that I agree on heroes as powerful as Mark still needing to learn fighting techniques. It is kind of my problem with Superman as well. They use their strength as the sole equalizer. Imagine a Clark Kent or Mark Grayson with the added benefit of wrestling techniques or any martial art.

It's one of the things I liked about Goku. He might be not that smart in many ways but as a fighter he constantly attempted to improve and try out different techniques, so that when the moment came where he faced someone of equal power or slightly higher power, he was able to outsmart them and keep up with them for most of the battle. Hell, Perfect Cell was slightly stronger than him and he technically beat Cell with a secret technique (if we removed the regeneration aspect).

Mark has an...okay boxer(?) stance:

ready-to-fight-mark-grayson.gif

But once the fighting starts his technique is sloppy and he is essentially the definition of collateral damage:

invincible-punch.gif

Even if he doesn't want to kill, I just need to see Mark be faster and more efficient like his father or Anissa. Unless this whole time he secretly enjoys fighting like Goku, he needs to learn the best way to end his fights as fast as possible.

invincible-omni-man.gif

The fight with a certain tragic character this season should have never happened where it did. If it were Omni-Man pre-betrayal, he would have assessed the guy's power after one punch and immediately grabbed the guy and flew him to the nearest desert or canyon, or simply flew him to Cecil's powered jail, flying so fast that the guy wouldn't even know what was going on until seconds after landing.
