Yeah this looks subpar in pretty much every regard.

Also, it's really depressing how creatively bankrupt most folks in the industry seem to be.

We get it, folks like the Spider-Verse films, but do we need this art style regurgitated over and over again? I'm already fuckin over it. The Predator animation, that shitty game about the south, and now this, can we just fuckin stop please? Just because it had a moment doesn't mean it's a good idea for animation to be arbitrarily and deliberately choppy. It worked for an IP, that's fine, but on literally everything else it has been awful. Knock this shit off devs.

Here's an idea: Instead of aping a style that's having a moment, why not come up with the next art style.....that's how you get the next fuckin moment!!!

This looks like a PSP game and it's terrible timing to have this shown anytime, but especially after Marvel Tokon...

Cancel the game and save your money...

I guess maybe they hope Xbox players will play this instead of Tokon on PC. One of the laziest looking games I've seen (i.e. no resources).

Marvel tag fighter looks rad (at least for lack of a new Capcom game they went to a good dev for it), nothing wrong with fighting games, if they're cool, lol.

This looks like 00s 3D CG cartoon visual style, yet it has low animation frames trying to ape 2D cartoon look for some reason? If it actually looked like a (cool) cartoon like Arc Sys games look like rad anime it could work, or if it was claymation or whatever but for this, it makes no sense & looks bad.

I love Invincible and have read the entire graphic novel series, but man, this shit looks kind of jank the way mortal kombat does, I honestly thought it as a netherealm game
Just not seeing how or why I would play this over Marvel Tokon.

Maybe on a sale because I do really like the IP, but this did not present well.

Very ugly, sounds worse than the worst beatemups of the 90s.... What crap, from the animations to the graphics to the concept... Then it takes itself so seriously, really ridiculous.

So many people defending this type of thing a couple years ago.

This is easily one of the worst animated games I've ever seen and the gameplay animation looks so lacking. Characters seem to just be floating around aimlessly. There is no kinetic movement at all.

Are you saying this specifically for the Invincible game or 2.5D in general? Because if the latter, hoo boy that'd be a pretty bad take.

Marvel Tokon is 2.5D and looks fantastic. There are other examples of that as well, going back to games like Viewtiful Joe.

Games don't have to be purely 2D sprite art to make 2D perspective work but, yes, a lot of the effort in pulling it off depends on the art style.

It's the style and mismatch of most 2.5D games.

It's actually great that you bring up Marvel Tokon, because the art direction of the character models meld perfect with the background. And because it is anime style, it looks like an anime come to life as opposed to a bland 3d background with bland character models.

Genuinely didn't think Invincible had enough going on in the IP to warrant something like this. In motion it looks weird, but knowing some of the KI team is on it is solid.

Love me some Invincible. I don't care about Marvel bullshit but Invincible is great. If it aint Wolverine or Punisher, I'm a DC bloke.

Looks horrible compared to Tokon

So I pulled up both trailers side by side and I noticed a ton of reasons why it looks so bad.

  • Character models lack complex rigging and are low quality overall, don't have nearly as much detail and
  • The backgrounds in Invincible are almost all entirely static whereas the backgrounds in Tokon see almostm bustling
  • They seem to have decided to screen grab practice mode compared to vs CPU or vs human
    • This makes it look like there is even less movement going on because only one character is actively attacking at once
      • This is just bad presentation
  • Everything is significantly cheaper here, the only kinetic movement going on in Invincible is some particle effects and some low level environmental movement
I feel like we got better backgrounds in SNES games than we're getting here in Invincible... That's pathetic.

I could go on, but this game has no future. You could sell it for like 5-10 dollars and if it plays like Killer Instinct, I'm sure some people will play it, but even then not many... If you told me this was a mobile game ported to console/PC I'd believe you.

It doesn't the roster size is going to be tiny or bloated with things that don't matter. You could have done Invincible vs The Boys and it still would be too small of a roster.

Hot Take--The herky jerky animation trend is absolutely jarring in video games and needs to just stop. It can work for movies (barely), but for gaming, for me it's a hard pass!

Day one for me

Animation* style, you could have literally no art style and still have animations like this, and south of midnight was emulating stop motion, this is emulating anime that's generally animated on 2s or 3s, which is why it's only there for the cinematic portions, not the fighting; there's very little traditional animation out there that's fully animated on 1s, it's basically all disney and select moments from higher budget anime.

I would be interested if they had some characters that weren't constantly floating and they got rid of stop motion. This seems very early in development. I am hoping for Battle Beast.

This isn't a netherealm games?? It looks like one!

Invincible characters, outside of the main 2 and one or two else are mostly garbage, so I don't see the appeal to make an entire game out of it.

There isn't a roster here that draws people in.

These are all characters that work as guest characters in other known franchises.

At best it should've been Invcible vs DC or some shit to get more known and valuable characters to draw hype.

It looks worse than a NR game for choppy animation. It looks slow and dumb.

This looks like a total step down from anything killer instinct had. Shit why not KI vs invcible? I'd buy into that unique premise.

This is dead on arrival.

Well Arc Sys in general are masters at the style at this point, as they've been focused on it longer than most and with more pertinence.

Vanillaware are great with the style as well, though they still mainly use "sprite-like" 2D illustrations for actual characters.

Okay, thanks for this. I was wondering if it was crazy to think such a thing lmao. I'm by no means a huge Invincible fanboy, but even with what I've watched of the show it felt like there just wasn't enough there, lol.

I don't particularly like the graphics, but the IP is good enough that if the gameplay is reasonably well handled and the price is right then I'll give it a chance.

Outside of Omniman and Invincible, who really cares about any of the characters? DBZ has a Goku/Vegeta problem and Naruto has a Naruto/Sausuke problem and both of those franchises have way more significant side characters. I could name at least 20 characters from both that are relevant. I could not do that for Invincible. Like Battle Beast and Monster Girl are not marketable... I couldn't name 10 characters of legitimate merit for an Invincible game (though I haven't watched the most recent season, which I do believe expands on that a bit).

I don't like the cutscene animation. But it's not in game so that's good.

Those behind the scene vids actually show the game better than the reveal. As some have said, the character familiarity and roster size might be an issue, but I have faith the gameplay is going to be solid.
I really had no idea who these characters were, but have been binge watching the show since the reveal. Currently in season 2.

The creator of the comics/show seems to be involved, so there's a chance he can design more characters to add to the roster.

Please don't have Mortal Kombat type controls though.

I'm down with this take.

This is just jarring as hell.

Most of the match ups here just don't make sense.

(I haven't read the comics)

The show seems to live off the tension evident in the blatantly skewed power levels between characters (e.g. viltrumites vs basically everyone else).

It's nice to get some "diversity" in the lineup, but black guy and exploding man just don't make no sense here at all.

To do this properly surely you have Invincible, his half brother, Allen the Alien, Atom Eve, that beast man and then a load of Viltrumites and that's it?

They should have included these characters as b/g characters that come in and do tag-team special moves but aren't actually playable.

It ain't even on gamepass.
Oh damn…but it screams gamespass. I'll get it when it's cheap on PlayStation then. I'm not really interested in beaten ups or multiplayer. But I'll play a campaign on something like mortal combat, and i like invincible…when it's cheap. Just wish it was an action adventure.

Knowing that JWong, Max, Sajam and other respected FGC are enthusiastic it will be good makes me very optimistic.

They're being paid to shill for the game... they'll probably delete these videos once the game launches. This is one of the worst looking fighting games I've ever seen...

Them now calling it pre-alpha footage... like if it's pre-alpha why are you even showing it? How much pre-alpha stuff has cutscenes? They're in major damage control mode right now.
