iOS 11 |OT| iPad becomes useful

iPad is indeed amazing now but HOLY SHIT THEY KILLED TOP GROSSING

As a result, Candy Crush Saga, Clash of Clans and Game of War are entirely without presence on any top level navigation page. Absolutely massive

Can't believe I've never noticed that before. Has that option always been there before iOS 11?
I don't have a phone with Touch ID, but I assume it's an ios10 thing when they removed slide to unlock and mainlined the lock screen as a sort of default location when waking you phone.

Thanks, gonna hold off on updating when it comes around until some stuff gets updated to be 64bit. Or some one finds a work around.

Most stuff is 64-bit now. If you're on the latest iOS 10, you can check what apps on your device are still 32-bit by going to Settings -> General -> About -> Applications.

Dang I don't know if I should update my Air 2 or not. I'm seeing a wide range of comments from "Its fantastic" to "Its hot garbage that lags". Youtube side by sides do seem to suggest it is slower than ios 10 though.

I've had my Air 2 since they first came out and its still a rockin tablet for daily use and I have no plans to upgrade any time soon I just don't want a silly OS update to screw it up. :(

I’ve been on gold master for about a week. The battery does not get better, unfortunately. It still suffers.

Maybe 11.1 will fix this, but don’t expect any magic after a restart or pretending that any background magic will solve anything.

You’re completely justified in complaining about it.
Yep. This is what I’m experiencing too. There’s the usual housekeeping work after update, and there’s constant, mystery battery drain that persist past a week.

I know there are people who complain when their battery life feels like it’s 30 minutes shorter, but you can’t call “every frigging year” when some people have had legit problems with it.

My oldie 5S is now the oldest iOS 11 supported phone. Read up that it is slightly slower than before with this new update. Approximately 0.4 seconds slower when opening things up than before on average. I'll wait till the next update that patches things up before making the jump. Play through Ghost Trick finally as I'm not sure if Capcom made that compatible.

Are there any apps I can use to get files on an smb server to appear in the Files app?

Really sucks they don't support something that's natively available in Mac's Finder, not to mention a major feature of some of their own products (Time Capsule).

The animation lag is awful after you’ve just updated but most of it goes away. There’s still a bit of lag if you restart your device and it needs to load assets into RAM again, but it’s mostly okay.

There was an "OS X Server" menu option in the Files app in one of the betas, so I bet something like this might be in the pipeline for a later update. I couldn't find a third-party app, although, funny story when I just tried.

I tried to open an App Store link on my Mac, and the online iTunes Store page decided to try to open the link in iTunes. So then iTunes tried to load the link, but then there's no App Store in iTunes anymore, so it opened the link in Safari... repeat forever until I quit both Safari and iTunes (just closing the tab in Safari or closing iTunes alone wasn't enough, it'd just reopen).

That’s why it’s called Invert and not Dark Mode :p
Yeah but it says right there in settings that it wouldn’t invert images. Guess it doesn’t work like that for all apps.

Is it no longer possible to swipe left and right on a tab in Safari to switch tabs in split view?

It’s annoying me like nothing else right now.

Mine is now telling me I have a day remaining.

I swear to god, Apple, you need to cut this "over 100 mb download only over Wi-Fi" shit out post-haste. My LTE signal is faster than my Wi-Fi one.

Mine just finished updating even after saying it would take 22 hours at one point, so hang in there!

After the update finished, the battery was down to 90%, even though it was on the charger and fully charged before!

Oh yeah, I think the images thing only applies to stock apps for now. Probably up to the third party devs to implement.

This is such a lovely change. Those whaling games are a blight.

Is there any benefit to this on an iPad Air? I already installed the updates for my iPhone7+ and AppleTV, but I’m always wary of performance hits on older devices.

Cool article about some small design flaws in iOS. This stuff and all the icons that seem design by different people are a bummer. Especially coming from a company like Apple which are supposed to value perfect design above everything else.

Good to hear. Any idea about how long it took to update your SE?

15 minutes or something? This doesn't include the initial download.

Pretty ugly Carplay hitching post update. Freezes and stutters when you activate voice recognition. The upside is you get to look at the individual frames of the microphone animation squiggle. I also noticed that you can rearrange Carplay windows, but it's possible that was always there and I just never bothered.

As I understand it, it’s not a major change on iPhone? I undated but aside from cosmetic differences it is in line with 10.

But it sounds like it’s the time to get an iPad with 11.

I've been running it since Thursday. No noticeable performance hit, other than the same battery issues my 7+ is having. New control center is nice.

I installed it about 10 minutes ago...

This is causing my iPhone 7 to stutter way more than it ever has before.

Edit: Just read people talking about indexing. That makes sense.

The new transitions are making me dizzy..
The scrolling seems different too.. am i crazy?

How do I quickly change apps in split view?

On iOS 10 you could pull down from the top and a list with all split view compatible apps would appear. Can’t I quickly change apps anymore?

Battery life was a little rough for me on the first day of having iOS11 (had the GM a few days) and for some reason it turned background refresh back on for all my apps.
Needless to say, turned them all back off apart from the select few.
