iOS 11 |OT| iPad becomes useful

So how long until this comes pre loaded on iPads? Was thinking of getting one soon but figured I'd wait until it came loaded with iOS11.

I would give it a few weeks

But you could always buy one and immediately restore it through iTunes to iOS11 and get the exact same effect

Apple's probably already shipping them as we speak. That said, there's not really any point in waiting. It'll take all of 20 minutes to update one if you buy one that's still on 10.

Is there a way to stop iOS 11 Mail from always running in the background? Previous to the 11 upgrade, Mail only went and got mail if I ran the app or on a phone reboot. Now it seems to be getting mail all the time and it's driving me mad.

I had hoped that the release of iOS11 would come alongside a bunch of 64bit updates for old games, but alas. It does seem like my beloved Cave games are abandoned forever. :(

I'm not updating. Haven't felt like that since they killed Google Maps in favor of Apple Maps on iOS6...

I tried. Saves very little time and then I’m stuck with a nondescript folder full of stuff that was removed from a more organized location.

I put every app in the dock and decided to slowly memorize it. Almost got it after a month. :) Home screen is so clean - love it.

Life is amazing.

It begins. App’e Killing older device

Here I was again this morning thinking my 7+ is so blazing fast

And now I have a lot of stutters. Opening safari and so on

You can change it from push to fetch in settings->mail.

I think this is what I'm gonna do next. I keep my desktop totally clear on my Mac as well

Was there an IKEA AR app coming, or was I dreaming that?

Would be awesome.

It's supposed to launch today. It's called IKEA Place. Doesn't show up for me, but that may be because I'm on iOS 10 still.

Your phone is indexing. Give it a little time.

Opening safari stutters on my iPad Pro 10.5 after a week. It’s not the indexing, just poor optimisation.

Two questions

1 - How do I split screen with a non-dock app? I don’t want to have recents in my dock, it’s clutter

2 - Why is Dropbox file hierarchy in a popup in Files, while on my iPad and on iCloud show full screen?

1. You people who are insistent on not using the Dock for the thing the Dock is there for need to get over it, but also:

You have to either drag an icon from the Dock over one of your split apps to replace it (remember: the Dock also shows recent apps if it's not an app you already put in the Dock) or head to the home screen, start dragging an app icon and keep holding it, then open your Split View apps and drag the icon over which app you want to replace.

tl;dr you can start dragging an icon from the home screen, open the app you want to split view with while still holding that first icon in "drag" mode, then you can drop it into split view

2. Because Dropbox needs to update their app to support the new Files API if they want full native integration.

Ok thanks, I think the two finger strategy (hold and drag one app, tap another app open, combine) is a decent workaround, and pretty understandable. I was thrown by how there doesn’t seem to be a wiggle mode anymore, but that would explain it

Downloading now on my iPad pro 10.5". I'm going to be pretty disappointed if there is a performance hit :|

On the contrary, feels more buttery

I've been running it since Thursday. No noticeable performance hit, other than the same battery issues my 7+ is having. New control center is nice.
Thanks for the answer. I have a gen 1 Air and didn't see too many people talking about it in here.

We need to start a riot over Apple removing the ability to (fully) control your phone's Music playback from your Watch. What the fuck.

I don't seem to have that option in Settings -> Mail, or in the separate account settings for each of the three e-mail accounts.

Sorry, forgot it got moved. Settings->Accounts and Passwords->Fetch New Data

This is the one blight on watchOS4 for me. I know you can start it on the phone and then take it over with Now Playing, but it's not the same.

Safari feels really slippery to me, like a Mario ice level. Have they changed the kinetic scrolling curves?

They changed back to how it was before iOS10, and to match the rest of the system. For the past year Safari has been the outlier

wait WHAT

This update seems cool and all but a real pain for controlling music. At least they've integrated it into the lock screen better, seems that's the ideal way to control it now.

In watchOS 4, the Music app only shows you music on the Watch itself. You can't control your phone's music playback except for the "Now Playing" app (which is just play/pause, back/forward, and volume - no picking songs from your phone).

Okay inbuilt screen recording is very cool.

Ugh. Fix this Apple.

Is the music app shuffle rearrange fixed? On iOS 10 For some reason it only sometimes allows me to rearrange a shuffled playlist.

Man, it really seems to have slowed my 6 Plus down.

So much so that I just went ahead and ordered a 7 Plus. Also, this is the last year I’ll likely get any value selling my 6+

Decided to get a 7 Plus 32GB, which should be plenty coming from 16GB for the last 8 years, was a tough choice to go with that over the 8 Plus, but $240 after tax is quite a bit of money.

I don't need wireless charging, and I don't play games so I don't think the power increase is needed for every day tasks.  Only thing I think I’d want is maybe 4k60fps video

Most the ARstuff is either not supported or crashes on my 6+.
