iOS 11 |OT| iPad becomes useful

What do you mean by ‘stutters’? And is this when you start Safari cold or when it’s already in the background?

Juddery animation when opening Safari. Usually after having been in another app and then coming back to Safari. Also happens in a couple of other apps, eg. Todoist, but then other apps are always smooth.

My 9.7 Pro is super fast with this update. You’ll be more than fine with that 10.5 monster.

Lol. YMMV. Some things are quicker, some not.

Also rotation is finicky and sometimes gets jammed in the wrong orientation. Or the dock has rotated but the page hasn’t.

Just a couple of niggles.

Edit:

Just to clarify what I mean by ‘juddery’, it’s more like a frame rate drop. I’m speculating here, but I think it may have something to do with the adaptive refresh rate on the 10.5 not being implemented as well, and it may be dropping to 30hz on the home screen or something.

AR has been hit-or-miss for me. Stack AR worked really well, as did magicplan. IKEA Place was a complete failure, I’ll have to try it out again later.

Saving files to and loading files from Dropbox in another app is totally broken for everyone else too right? It’s not just because Apple personally hates me?

Edit: maybe it’s only certain files. Pdf’s for example seem to be broken.

The X arbitrarily pops up for me with notifications, but best I can get to reproduce it is to unlock, open notification center, then lock my phone. It's just not consistent for me and hopefully it is a bug.

Alright, did a full restore and fresh install through iTunes for my 10.5. Time see what was beta weirdness hanging around and what’s a bug in the GM

My new SE just arrived today and the first thing I did was update it to iOS 11, and man I love it. For what little I spent on iOS 10, I have to say the animations and control center are a big improvement on 11. I also don't notice any lag at all. Loving it!

Dude, you just described the dock. It does exactly what you want. Which is what at least one person you quoted was saying sarcastically.
The thing is. Before, I could swipe down, and tap an app. Two steps.
Now I need to swipe up to bring up the dock, hold down for a second on the app I want, and then drag it into split view. In principle, three steps. Or a second to two seconds slower because of how cumbersome it feels. It’s an annoyance, but hopefully I can get used to it.

Gotta say the new App Store is pretty fuckin huge! Very very awesome! Cool to see the witness finally on iOS, it was announced way waaaaaaay back in the day that it would “come to iPad”

Wait, what? I see The Witness nowhere on the App Store.

I am legitimately in love with the new App Store. Splitting up games and apps is great since I don't play games on my iOS devices, and the daily stories have been really good. I don't always download something, but more often than not I find a new app to roll into what I do.

What's up with the god-awful delay when you double-click the home button for multitasking?

No delay here. What are you exactly talking about? An animation plays so I guess in reality there's about 0.5sec delay from when you double click to when yo can select the app, but otherwise...

So I got the MeasureKit app and damn the tracking is quite amazing. At first I tried in my own room which is pretty dark and there were some tracking issues, but on the living room it worked flawlessly. Impressed.

Am I wrong or wasn't it going to be an iOS first game before he really branched it out?

(I'm still waiting for a physical release that he promised a while ago, too).

Tap the App Store icon next to the camera. It should collapse it, if that's the one you are talking about.
Ah, beautiful. Thank you.

Not digging that they put cell activation in the tool bar. I keep accidentally hitting it and turning off my cell.

How do I power down the phone with the button? Holding the power button down isn't working and I have some kind of bug that is going on where I can't touch any of the app icons or swipe across the home screen, but I can still bring the notification bar, command center, and camera up.

(Never mind I forgot I could just Google it xD). That's a pretty messy bug not even half an hour in...

That boggles my mind. I mentioned in a beta thread, but I'm going to have to deal with so many calls or texts from my family asking why "the phone stopped working" when they've actually disabled cellular in command center. Heck, I get that now with them accidentally activating Do Not Disturb.

Why Apple made that a default is just bizarre.

Hold both the home button and power button at the same time for like 10 secs.

My 10.5 has been stuck in the wrong orientation a few times now. I have to shake it to get it to update. It is a minor bug but still an annoyance.

Power and home for 6S or lower
Power and volume down for 7 or higher

iOS 11 is soooo smooth and buttery on my 6S Plus. The animations and transitions are a lot quicker and crisp. Playing around with the IKEA AR app drained my battery pretty fast though. Gonna have to try it out on a fully charged battery.

Yeah so downloading and installing iOS 11 was easy and fast, for both my ipad pro and iphone 7. Downloading watch os4 is slow as fuck. What gives?

Yeah, the AR stuff seems to go through the battery at an alarming pace.
At least it worked as a joke (I just sent my wife a picture of a Strandom in the middle of our entrance corridor and told her I was this close to buy it before noticing it wouldn't leave much space to walk. She was like "wat?").

There’s also a “Shut Down” button in the “General” settings section (dunno if that’s new or not; never knew/noticed before).

I get the same animation issue when opening Safari, been using 11 for a few days, hasn’t really improved much. Like you said, sometimes it’s silky smooth, other times it isn’t. Depends on the app, but it happens frequently when I’m opening Safari. I always have 5 tabs or so open as well. On a 9.7 Pro. Actually downgraded to 10 and none of that crap is present.

Edit: Another annoying issue was Hey Siri not functioning with my Smart Keyboard cover on and the iPad locked.

‘Do not disturb while driving’...I can get behind it. Will likely leave this enabled. Ashamed to say this was made for people like me.

Why do you say that? It's nicer than ever imo, since now you can select multiple apps at a time when in the jiggly edit/organization mode.

On the phone they are hard to pull out of nested folders and often simply go poof when you want to drop them down.
