iOS 11 |OT| iPad becomes useful

You can't turn off WiFi and Bluetooth via the control center toggles. They are just not connected. Just take a look in Settings and find them activated.

Edit: To visualize it better, you can only toggle between the state on top and in the middle. The one on the bottom can only be achieved by going into settings and turning wifi/bluetooth completely off.

So i cant turn it completely off like before? I dont like this one bit. A quick menu that isnt usable anymore for me. Ive never had to disconnect from a wifi before, i either connect or turn it completely off. Who does that? Who disconnects without turning it off.... Im baffled by this decision.

Anyone with a first gen watch update? How's the performance?
Great, apps open much faster and overall performance is the same I’d say. I’ll report on battery life tonight as I only ever see it when I put my watch on the charger so I’ve got no point of reference right now.

Well, you can by activating airplane mode. Once you deactivate airplane mode it's the same mess again. So no, you can't do it like it used to be in iOS 10. It's annoying tbh.

Incredibly annoying. Well thx, it was driving me crazy. One more reason why i preferred 10.3.3 so far.

how does 'DND while driving' work in control center?

When i tap it (sitting at my desk) it simply just turns on DND.
When i tap "I'm not driving" it simply turns off both DND and DND-while-driving

Where's the difference?

I suspect this decision was driven by less expert users tapping the button once and unwittingly going weeks without WiFi or Bluetooth after a single tap of control center and thus never having a recent backup or a watch pairing when showing up at the Genius Bar.

So the only way to turn off wifi and Bluetooth completely is to go to settings? Because from the control center all it does is “kills” your current wifi conection but it is still on

Yup, I would think so too.

Personally the only reason I usually turn off WiFi is to disconnect from a connection. As long as it actually stays disconnected (which I haven’t tested yet) I’m fine with it.

No problem, glad I could help.

You're probably spot on I guess.

Well it's really more of a case by case scenario tbh. I can see the reasoning behind this decision, but it can't be the answer to make the process annoying now for "advanced" users. :(

I have a crap wifi connection from my desk at work so I actually find being able to disconnect just from that network when it's being shit via control center exceedingly handy. Then I don't need to remember to turn wifi back on when I get home.

Like seriously, they REALLY removed marked as played? Absurd.

I like to go to bed listening to podcasts through the night as white noise.

The old app if I picked one podcast from one show it would continue to play through the night and keep playing older shows in sequence.

Haven't figured out how to do that yet on this new one. It will just stop playing after the one episode I picked.

edit: looks like I have to individually queue them all up with 'Play Next'

Oh God. How bad is it? Will Apple's sheer scorn for Podcast listeners finally overcome my laziness and make me switch to Overcast? Stay tuned to find out.

So many decisions on this update just leave me scratching my head. Its as if they changed things just to change them. Im really not liking 11 so far.

Is there a quick gesture somewhere that dimmers the screen on iPhone? I fuck up the brightness every now and then while switching between apps, so I assume I’m involuntarily doing that.

Going to Library > Episodes lets you see the list of unplayed episodes like the old app (to answer an earlier question).

You can click on an episode and then the ... button to "play next" which says it adds it to the queue, but no idea if you can do that repeatedly or if one just keeps overwriting another.

yeah looks like every night I just gotta cue up a bunch of episodes to sleep to.. meh

iPad is indeed amazing now but HOLY SHIT THEY KILLED TOP GROSSING

As a result, Candy Crush Saga, Clash of Clans and Game of War are entirely without presence on any top level navigation page. Absolutely massive

interestingly, Top Grossing (if you care) still exists in apple's web services. App Annie still has it available with a free membership.

This is bullshit. This is similar to when they removed the ratings for songs for no apparent reason.

Sometimes I want all Bluetooth off. Not just for particular connections. Why remove this. At least put it on force touch or something. Instead, Nothing

WHAT the FUCK? Why does Apple treat its users like easily-manipulated idiot children?

I'm liking the sound of this update less and less every second. Fancy new tray (but less actual functionality!). New files app (but you thought we would actually make adding stuff to iTunes less of an absolute pain in the ass? Lol). We gotta make the iPhone X seem special somehow, better take multitasking gestures away from everyone else! What's that? You want more functionality and options in the Podcasts app? Psh, you babies can't handle that; here, have less functionality and options. I can't think of many companies besides Apple that think so little of their users.

Is there a way to get wallpapers back from iOS10? I switched to one of the new live ones to try it out and then lost my favorite one cause I guess it's not in 11 - the one with Jupiter and one of its moons.

I've downloaded this damn update three times now and I get a 'not enough storage space' error after it's spent an hour downloading. 3 goddamn hours later and I'm still trying to get this thing installed. How about doing a space check before the download starts, Apple? Besides, there's over 4gbs free which is meant to be more than enough!

I am thankful that it's not consumer-facing anymore. And I very much appreciate Apple's efforts (though perhaps futile) to highlight paid games and apps especially with this redesign. I have bought more premium games and apps in even the short time they've been updating the Today view than I have over the last year prior to the redesign.

I’m not understanding the podcast hate. Seems fine to me. It took me 10 seconds to understand how it’s organized now.

For what it's worth, I'm the complete opposite when it comes to WiFi (I don't use bluetooth at all though). I much prefer that I can temporarily disconnect from one network while leaving the function live for other networks.

For various reasons I routinely need to temporarily disconnect from a network at work while I may want to automatically connect to other networks later on or reconnect to the same work network the day after, and not having to remember to toggle WiFi back on manually in either case is great.

yeah.. I'm not really understanding the anger toward "disconnecting" wifi compared to "disabling it". wifi is such a minimal drain on battery life, especially with what hitting the button in CC does, i.e. disconnecting from all wi-fi networks and turning off searching. I'm sure there are necessary reasons someone might HAVE to turn off wifi without like enabling airplane mode... but man, those reasons are seem super fringe. For 99.9% of users disconnecting from networks and turning off searching while lessening the drain on battery is all they are wanting from "disabling" it.

fwiw, apple also outlines why CC works like this. Simply because they have SO MUCH tech that relies on BT and wifi now.. Hotspot, Pencil, Watch, AirDrop, Continuity/Handoff, etc.

I really like that I can do some form of multitasking with apps that don’t support it by dragging apps that do and have that window on left or right. Really love iOS 11 :)

so how do i do the hdr stuff on my ipad pro? I see some of my titles have a “dolby vision” tag. Does that mean that as long as i have download hdr toggled in the itunes settings it’ll do it?

Also side note, does the new apple tv support hdr10 or only dolby vision? My new 4k tv is just hdr10...I really hope all these new 4k movies on itunes don’t only have dolby vision.

It also sucks that it looks like my copy of guardians of the galaxy 2 isn’t updated to the 4k/hdr version. I wonder why?

I'm on transit and keep getting the Apple Driving DND notification —even once while I was using Apple Maps directions iirc. Lol wtf so sloppy and annoying.

Can someone explain why we now need geriatric-sized lettering at the top of some apps? Seriously, was that done as like an accessibility thing?? Ugly as shit.
