Debating buying match. I'm at 27,000 songs, i could easily not sync quite a bit.

I like the idea of wanting someone to hear a song and just being able to grab it quick from the cloud

however i wish it had a stream feature, because odds are i would download like 1 album from the cloud and never do it again

Songs are so easy to delete off the phone that I don't see why storing it locally is such a big deal. Plus, you may not think you'll listen to that album again, but maybe you will, and it'll be there waiting for you rather than have to be downloaded over 3G again (or maybe you'll be in a situation without network access)

I find it's better to just not worry about it and let Match manage things. If my phone ever runs out of space because of the local storage to the point where I can't install a new app, I can just go in there and delete an album or two.

edit:

Yes

Question.

How easy is it to have it not match certain songs? I'm at 27,000 songs and i mean i could easily find 2k i don't want matched

I’m not aware of any way to prevent songs in iTunes from getting reviewed and potentially matched in iCloud.

you can remove songs manually from iCloud afterward, but as long as they’re in the iTunes world, they will get uploaded again if you leave iTunes match on.

... possible course of action:

1 remove the 2K songs from iTunes. store them in some folder
2 enable iTunes match on this computer to match/upload all other songs and makes them available elsewhere.
3 disable iTunes match on this computer
4 re-add those 2K songs to iTunes and they won’t get added to iCloud

obviously not a great solution. hopefully Apple raises that iTunes library limit soon.

My buddy broke my iPhone 4S and so I went to get mine replaced and I was concerned about getting my iMAME app back and so I googled and found out that apparently when you restore your iCloud backup that you can redownload apps that are no longer in the store, but when I restored my replacement phone I didn't have iMAME. I also didn't want to back up all my apps to my computer because theyd take up gigs upon gigs of space and if I deleted them from my computer after restoring they would all disappear from my iPhone... ffuuuuuuu

Sorry to hear. You can selectively backup apps, so just backup the apps that you know are no longer on the app store if you're concerned about space (if it's not too late).

Update: We've heard back from Apple and for its part, it is treating this as no big deal, focusing on the fact that it only applies to push email specifically and customers can still receive their emails other ways as mentioned above. As it is, it says this will affect only a "limited number of customers." Check after the break for the company's statement.
Fuck you Apple! Just pay the fucking licensing fees. I now have a not so smart smart phone >:(

This isn't a Frand patent. So apple can't just stump up as moto don't have to license it. It's just being used as leverage in the wider game.

Only people who suffer in these stupid patent wars are the customers.

Decided I'd get my iTunes Match upgrading over with--I ripped a lot of my old CDs in the 1990s at 192 CBR, so I've got thousands of songs eligible for upgrading. One kind of annoying thing is that maybe one in every fifty songs has a download error, and actually pops up with an error box. Fuck that; error silently, try to restart the download, if that fails push the download to the bottom of the queue, process all unprocessed downloads, and then try the download again. If it still fails, THEN pop up with an error box :p

I use iTunes Match. I never really had many problems, out of all my music, only like 25 songs weren't matched and had to be uploaded.

It's definitely worth the $25 a year.

Oh yeah, I finally encountered a mismatched song issue with Match. It wasn't a case of a clean version replacing an explicit version, though.

Instead it was a remixed, more rocking (and kinda awkward) version of "sweetest thing" from U2's best of 1980-1990 replacing the quieter, radio mix that we are more familiar with. iTunes match was replacing the version I had ripped from the CD (it was an old 160 kbps rip, which is why I had it replaced) with the version on the second disc of the 2 disc version of the album. i only owned the single disc version.

anyway... I ended up having to fix it manually by re-ripping. I wonder if there are other songs in my library that had this happen to them. I hadn't listened to this song in years and wasn't even sure at first if it was a different version of the song.

Please help. I posted in the iPhone 4S thread but figured I'd try here to.

Background-
iPhone 4S on latest OS.
A month ago I was able to use the Steam and HBO Go app without issue. Then one day I wasn't able to access either. I'd receive a message that due to the proxy I'm using the application isn't accessible. The only problem is I never use proxies on my iPhone. This was during 3G.

I restored my iPhone last night as a new phone and it fixed the issue, or so I thought. Today I arrived at work and attempted using the apps but the error popped up again. This is again using 3G. I'm able to use said apps with wifi without problem. All other apps work fine over 3G.

Any ideas?

Since the news of Apple asking for (or is it requiring) the Master's of songs for the iTunes library, how will this affect iTunes Match?

Will there be any way of knowing if the iTunes version of a song was upgraded in quality from the Master? Because then it would make sense to delete those songs on your HDD and then re-download them again.

iTunes 10.6 adds the ability to play 1080p HD movies and TV shows from the iTunes Store.

This release also includes many improvements for iTunes Match, including:

• Improved song matching

• Improved album artwork handling, downloading, and display

• Addresses an issue where songs may skip when playing from iCloud
Fingers crossed…

People using iOS 5.1 & iTunes Match, are you getting Genius Mixes? Cause I'm not..

Other than that it's working pretty much perfectly. Vast improvement over before.

no genius mixes. just genius playlists.

it’s a start.

I can say that artwork issues look to be solved, so that’s nice. songs on the iPhone always show art immediately and newly downloaded songs show art after a second or two.

Um i asked this in the new iPad thread but didn't get an answer:

If I purchase an NBA League Pass subscription on the iPad, does it also cover the NBA League app on the Apple TV?

I'm finding that I'm typing better on iOS 5.1 than when I was on iOS 5.

Does anyone that just update feel like the keyboard is more responsive? May be my imagination.

Updating the 1st gen iPad now... and next the current iPod Touch, hoping it'll fix it's battery problems as shown in the release notes.

I was a little annoyed that got rid of MobileMe gallery, but the iOS iPhoto feature is kinda similar.

I feel like there's a new version (not the 9.2.2 update) of iPhoto OS X coming soon.

Oh nice! I just went 5 minutes on the springboard without a battery percentage drop. I think the battery fix for iPhone 4 has actually worked!

Yep.

Apple question more than iOs, but anyone know anything about the Apple Payment plan?

I was going to apply, but I just wanted to know if there was anything I needed to worry about like annual fees or whatever. I have an Amazon card already, so I'm trying not to have too many of these things, but this plan would work a lot better for me atm.

Looks like the AppleTV software update is pretty much useless. Just as unwieldy as ever, only now with colorful icons in a grid!

I really hope the team they have working on the "serious" AppleTV is better than the one that's been handling the software for it so far. I love that little box, but the software was just not made to handle things like iTunes Match.

Speaking of Match, seems like there are still some issues to work out. Apparently there were a couple of ties in my 50 Most Played playlist.

So when you delete from a Photo Stream on the iPhone, it doesn't delete from anywhere else? I have to delete it from 3 places manually.

I'd like to know how this works as well.

Deleted from Photo Stream on my iPhone but it's still showing up in Photo Stream on my Mac (iPhoto).

I'm downloading a new iPhoto (OSX) update now. Maybe this will unify the photostream delete functionality. I'll post results.

I recall that I disabled Photostream because of an annoyance that I can't quite remember ..

Oh, I think it was when I took pictures, the photo stream kept all the "bad" ones in it, despite me only importing a few into iPhoto. So if my brother took a picture of his junk and didn't tell me, it would be on my photo stream for 30 days.

Is this fixed now?

So why is it that iPhoto on iOS seems almost more useful and feature packed than iPhoto on OS X... can't wait to use iPhoto on my "the new" iPad, shit looks like an awesome replacement for Snapspeed.

It does. Just deleted a bunch of photos through iPhoto and they disappeared on my phone as well.

The iTunes 10.6 update apparently improves the matching in iTunes Match, but when I deleted all uploaded music from iTunes and iCloud and then re-added them, they all came back as Uploaded without any additional attempts at matching. I really wish there was a "re-attempt match" option when right-clicking a track.

You could select all of the uploaded tracks, delete them from iCloud and re-add them. Not the best solution though.

That's what I did. But iCloud must keep some sort of metadata on the songs you've uploaded, because when I re-imported them into iTunes, they all went straight to "Uploaded".

I just deleted about 300 pics from photostream, now waiting to see those changes ripple out to the iPad and iPhone.

if you took these photos before 5.1 hit, you need to delete them manually from the other devices.

new photos can be deleted from multiple devices simultaneously.

Question about the App store and not anything specific with 5.1. But I remember somebody saying on here that you don't have to put in your password EVERY TIME you update or download something from the App store, how?

Unless you jailbreak you will have to input a password. If you jailbreak I think PasswordPilot gets you around that.

Edit: Ah you got it.

Updated my iPhone and iPad, and still having issues with my iCal stuff updating through iCloud. Tried turning it off then back on (both device and iCloud itself) and it still doesn't update. Ideas?

Settings > Restrictions > Require Password

Is that what you're looking for?

Okay quick question...

How do I force notifications for my calendar? I have it set up to notify me an hour before an event, but it never does. Even my all-day events don't get notifications sent to my phone.

I definitely miss having that from my Droid Pro, and I know it's possible...it's just not telling me. Hell, my eBay alerts notify me. What am I doing wrong?
