How do I transfer over everything on iBooks on iPad to my Mac? iTunes wants to delete everything except books I've purchased on iBooks. I've got alot of PDF documents.

I just joined up with iTunes Match after taking a clever to my main iTunes collection and I'm digging it so far, but I have a question.

Is it possible to keep upgraded songs if you remove them both from iCloud and iTunes?

After lopping off (and archiving) a huge amount of songs from my collection, I checked out an upgraded version of an album that made the cut into my new 23,000 iCloud collection. Listening to the album after upgrading from 128kbps to 256kbps, I realized that I'd rather use the space it takes up in the cloud for another album that I've archived.

I deleted the album from both iCloud and my iTunes library, but was given the option to either keep the files or trash them. I opted to keep the album, as I might want to come back to it someday. So, I added the album to my archive on my external HDD.

Now, if I add it back into iTunes, at some point, or toss it into a new iTunes collection not connected to iTunes Match, will it be the 256kbps version or the original 128kbps version?

once you download the songs off iCloud/iTunes Match, they are yours to keep and use forever. If you delete the tracks off iCloud you only lose the ability to redownload/stream it to other devices through iTunes Match. If you decide to add the tracks back later on, it'll match up the same as before.

whether they are the 256kbps versions or your original 128kbps files depends on whether iTunes correctly matched it to a song in its database.

Do anyone here know why iTunes keep creating an iTunes folder locally on my Mac? I had changed the location to my NAS for all music and apps but it keeps changing it to a local folder. :/

I already have it like that, but when I go to open iTunes again, it automatically creates an iTunes folder on my Mac Mini. =/ And if I erase that local folder beforehand, then I can't see any of my content in iTunes.

i think iTunes is reading a different iTunes library database file that is expecting music to be on the local drive. this is the *.itl file in your music folder. it knows where the actual music files are stored and keeps track of metadata/ playlists.

do you have more than one of those itl files?

try opening iTunes while pressing the option key and pick one of the other libraries (if you have more than one) or select a new library and choose all the songs on the NAS drive.

Does your NAS mount at startup?

I'll try this out today.

I don't know. I'm actually really new at NAS'.

Hmm, I'm trying this right now, and there seems to be one locally only. I don't seem to have an .itl file on my NAS.
When I create a new one, I can't see my NAS under devices.

=/

Do anyone know the answer to this?

I got all of my iTunes library (including music, apps etc.) on my NAS, but every time I open iTunes it creates a new .itl file and iTunes library locally and that way downloads all of my apps and music down there again.

What can I do so it just reads my whole library on my NAS?

I have my entire library on a NAS with no issues.

Got my NAS set as the iTunes media folder location, checked "Keep iTunes folder organized" and "Copy files to media folder" plus checked the File Menu -> Library -> Organize Library -> "Consolidate files".

Have a read through of this article and see if there's anything you've missed in your setup: http://www.macworld.com/article/1163242/organize_and_play_your_media_from_a_nas.html

So for some reason, safari won't keep my bookmarks in the order I want them. I edit them, and when safari is restarted, they are right back to some predetermined order. :/ is there something I am missing here?

When importing books into iBooks, are you able to view them in other iOS devices without syncing them through the USB cable?

Does highlights/annotations get shared to other iOS devices via the cloud?

I'm having the same issue. Haven't been able to figure out anything myself.

Is there anyway iTunes will sync with iCloud to import your e.g. ebooks? Although I've restored my iPad from an iCloud account, when I connect it to my Mac and try to sync it there it says the iPad has a library from a different iTunes (true but I did not connect it physically to that other library). So it seems I cant sync it to my Mac without possibly losing my data. I therefore need to import that iCloud data to this current iTunes library.

Possible?

Should be. Does "Transfer Purchases" work? Its a right click menu on the device once connected in iTunes. That should link it up, just make sure you're logged into iTunes with your Apple ID and that you've authorised your PC beforehand.

May also want to turn off Auto Syncing when connecting the device. It's a checkbox on the main info pane once the device is connected.

What are my options for wirelessly transferring photos from my iPhone and iPad to my Windows PC other than the iCloud Windows program?

Microsoft Skydrive and Dropbox. Skydrive offers more space to start, and it doesn't recompress pictures you download back onto your iPhone/iPad.

Yeah it transfers everything including apps but not my epubs that were in iBooks. Wtf?

:(

Edit: Fixed it.

Is not being able to download an uploaded file in iTunes match on an iOS device a known problem? Is there a solution?

sometimes downloads will get stuck permanently, happened to me once and i had to resort to turning off itunes match and re-enabling

How does buying a series of a television show work in iTunes? Do you get the shows permanently or is there an expiration date.

And can you download them instead of streaming them?

I'm looking to purchase season 4 of Breaking Bad in HD to put on my iPad while on a trip.

You buy them, of course it's permanent :P Yes you download them. And they're in iCloud so you can re-download them whenever you want.

Yeah, every single song I try to download that's been uploaded get stuck at about 90% on the phone. It can download and stream no problem on iTunes, just my phone/ipad that's the problem. I tried the above but it made no difference.

Google suggests it's not a unique problem, but I've not notice a solution been mentioned. The only fix I've found is to disable Match on the phone, copy to songs across from iTunes and then re-enable Match, except that whole solution kinda defeats the purpose of Match.

iTunes question:

I listen to podcasts exclusively in my car, creating a playlist in iTunes, ordering by release date, and then burning to disc ensures I listen to them all in the correct order. Sadly, my new car doesn't have a CD player (just 2 SD slots and an iPod connector) so I cannot do this any more.

Anyway, you can create an MP3 folder by dragging the playlist to your desktop in Windows, but unfortunately the tracks are all in alphabetical order... I guess what I'm basically asking is can you create a folder from a playlist so it numbers the tracks (including the tag track title) 01, 02, 03 etc like it does an MP3 CD?

Thanks :)

iTunes match is acting so weird for me. After waiting a few days for everything to sync, it worked fine on my iPhone, but now it doesn't show any of my playlists and doesn't seem to be able to find any songs I've added recently that it could a few hours ago.

I've tried turning it off in the Music settings, waiting a while and then turning it back on but that doesn't seem to work. Even if I slide both of the settings to Off, the icloud icons remain and I'm still able to download music. I'm thinking the settings thing is glitchy. It should ask for a password every time I trigger it back on, shouldn't it? It did the first time, but now turning it on and off just shows the enable button that doesn't do anything.

Wiping my iPhone and going to try restoring from a backup. Using ios 5 right now but I might try updating it if it continues to not work. The only reason I got it was to access my music when I leave on a trip on saturday. Maybe I can get it fixed by then.

hopefully

Edit: Well, updating it to 5.1 did the trick. The downside is the iCloud backup completely botched up both times I tried it. Do you really have to wipe the entire phone again if the iCloud backup fails to download anything? Mine got stuck on "..Waiting" for every app for a couple of hours so I tried wiping it again and it did the same thing, so I cancelled it and did everything manually. It's really stupid that you can't resume, or retry restoring from an iCloud backup if it fails.

iOS5 caching

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Zinio Customer Support.

I apologize for the inconvenience, this automatic removal of magazines may happen either after syncing your iOS device or if your device is running low on memory.

In iOS 5 or later, Apple checks a “Cache” folder where we store our magazines.  When a user starts running low on storage space, Apple will remove or “Clean” everything in this “Cache” folder including the user’s downloaded magazines. Apple made this decision regarding the location of your issues and Zinio was forced to start storing our magazines in this “Cache” folder.

The Zinio app will check the memory settings of the iPad when the user launches the Zinio App or attempts to download a new issue. Users can check their storage space on the device by going to Settings->General->Usage.

We apologize for the inconvenience, this is a known issue with iOS5 that Zinio has no control over. At this time we have no way of determining the memory threshold that triggers this "cleaning" of the Zinio cache, but this is something that Apple has been made aware of and plans to address in a future update to iOS5.

Additionally, for your convenience, our 2.2 app has an automatic download option that may help with this problem while it gets sorted out.

If I can be of further assistance, please let me know.

Okaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

iMessage is seriously one of my favourite things about iOS. I have a friend who lives in America and we can text any time of the day and even send photos. And it's 100% free!

I think Spotify suffers from the same problem as well as other apps.

To be sure not to have your content deleted make sure to always have more than 1gb free.

I now have 3G free and I'll have a look at making sure there's clearance on the ipad. I have a 64gb IPAD3 with 3gb free at the moment - probably a whole bunch of games I can delete but yeah, its something to think about this caching.

tecnically you pay for data but yes. apple did good implementing it. :)

In the process of updating both my iPad and iPhone now...*hugs OTA updates*

I've been experiencing the bottom two issues, so I'm hoping this solves them.

It really showed how slow my iPhone 4 is getting when I watched it install alongside my third-gen iPad. I started installing on the phone first and was installed and back playing Ascension on the iPad before the progress bar on the phone was even halfway.
