Deep linking (might be in your list) is a pretty big one too. It creates a much smoother way to navigate between apps, and even allows developers to create small app ecosystems that intertwine. Also, related to that, the ability to make your app's data searchable will be huge.

I think the thing that will get my friends to update is low power mode.

that will likely be version 3 or 4 by that point so it'll be largely stable.

the shift key will change the case of the keys on the keyboard. A common complaint was that the shift key didn't adequately indicate whether it was on or off. This will be much easier to parse at a glance.

A few larger features aside, this mostly looks like a refinement of iOS8. Which is totally fine with me - some of Apple's best OSes were built as refinement (I'm looking at you, Snow Leopard). They're probably going big for iOSX next year.

I know about window snapping, now native with El Capitan, and previously possible with 3rd party tools, but this convenient snapping WITH optimised and functional UIs, easy app switching for each portion, and a PiP always-on-top video player from a multitude (eventually all) of sources kinda trumps the desktop in some ways.

I mean sure, there's no stuff like Spaces and the number of apps running simultaneously is limited, but I can see it being more handy and useful for the most basic day to day needs.

I'm really excited for App Thinning/On Demand Resources, as a 16GB iPhone 5s owner myself. The demo game/app they presented on the Platform States of the Union presentation monday, DemoBots, weighs 74 MB. With App Thinning implemented (according to the App Thinning in XCode presentation), it would weigh on average (it varies depending on the device) 22MB, and by streaming select content via On Demand Resources, the basic download would weigh 14 MB on average. Combined with the lower footprint of iOS 9, hopefully I'll be able to have much more apps and media on my iPhone

I believe this relates to physical keyboards, and not the virtual one. You had to hit Cmd+Enter to send a message before, which sucked. If my speculation turns out to be right, it'll behave like it should: Enter to send, Shift+Enter to skip a line.

Right now you have got three buttons at the bottom of the photos app. "Photos", "Shared" and "Albums".

Hiding a photo means it disappears from the "Photos tab", but it remains in the "Albums" tab. Basically, this functionality is not worth much.

Find my friends - so people can see where I am?

It's an app that now ships with iOS. You can turn it on if you want, but if you do nothing, no one will know your location.

isn't complicated though? Like you have have XCode installed, compile the app and send it to your phone? I guess that might not be a big deal if you even care to sideload stuff.

Let me put this week. In the past hours, I have seen no fewer than 3 popular apps pledge to easy compilers, a package with a script that compiles it for you easily with just a few clicks for even the novice.

Sideloading is gonna be accessible and very real. It feels good to be running OS X, I'll say that much.

You can already have long passcodes.

From the site it seems that 6 is the new minimum limit. If so, that's pretty annoying.

This has always been a feature on iPad. (Ok technically Rotation lock was the original function of the switch, then they changed it to Mute in one OS release, then people complained, then Apple made the function of the switch optional - but it all happened years ago, before the iPad 2 even).

Very interested to see what the new ipad is this year. The problem with apple though is that they introduce something that takes more power and hardware that can run it, then the next year they release something that runs it much better. I guess that's how all technology goes but it's too bad that the speed is always "just enough" and never blazing fast.

For me it is. I'm running it on my old, deactivated vanilla iPhone 5 and performance seems to be on par with iOS 8. If not a bit faster even, although that's difficult to confirm.

I'm hoping this is just physical keyboards (which is good). Hope it isn't this way with the onscreen system keyboard where you can use it to go to a different line. Anyone tried this yet?
