iOS Gaming August 2016 | A sever-ly hot summer

Now the true disappointment: the game won't be out today, but in the "coming weeks".

Was this announced or are you just assuming it's coming since the game isn't up yet?

Edit: Guess it's been announced. Well hype officially deflated. Had a flight this weekend and was excited to play jade empire on it. Guess that's no longer the case. I don't see how you can develop a game and literally be about to release it without having the legal issues hammered out. Hell I don't know how you can start production on a game without the legal issues hammered out.

Still got Deus Ex Go at least.

" unforeseen circumstances between EA and Asypr have lead to the release of Jade Empire being postponed"

That doesn't sound good. Some sort of contractual problems?

------

Just going to declare this Mr. Robot night. Psyched for tonight's episode after last week's masterpiece. And grab the game to get in the mood.

Edit: Wow. Just from the initial conversations in the Mr. Robot game, I'm already loving it. Never was real excited about the Lifeline games so I was initially still hesitant to get this despite being a huge fan of the show.

But the writing is so much more natural, feels more personal and lifelike. That is a quality of Oxenfree as well and it shows here.

Great first impressions anyway.

Oh shit me, I just bought The Longest Journey, having no intention of playing it anytime soon. At least I got it for when I want to play it.

It's also cool if you have watched the show because you can kind of imagine hearing the characters you are messaging saying the things they are writing too.

----

Just saw the iOS version of Riptide: Renegade will be out next week for $2.99. Good follow up, but kind of annoying that there apparently is no difference at all between the Apple/Android TV versions and this release. In fact, you own both if you buy it. So I basically paid $7 more to have it a few weeks in advance?

It's not that I'm complaining about the price. Just the huge difference in price for the same product on more or less the same platform just a few weeks later.

Oh, for some reason I had no idea there was an iOS port, huh. Been meaning to actually play that for a while now (and a quick check shows it's not something I somehow got on Steam without remembering...) so maybe I'll bite too sometime soon.

Deus Ex GO is more Hitman GO than Lara Croft GO. It's back to the abstract puzzler of Hitman rather than the continous adventure of LC. Hitman was a lot more of moving "pieces" around, blocking pieces, etc. while LC felt more organic IMO.

Yeah I feel the same way. Although not a bad thing, just not as good as what Lara Croft GO went for.

Just bought Shadowrun Returns. I thought I had it already but apparently I only owned it for Android.

Lara Croft was so much more than Hitman GO. It felt like a generational leap to me with the stuff added and variations and multi layered levels. heck I enjoyed the hidden objects in levels as well. DX has a lot good but I was hoping for something better. Those takedowns look great though.

I feel like Life Is Strange GO has the potential to be the next leap. Or at least more in the vein of Lara Croft. The Pacific NW setting is just begging for the kinds of vibrant environment design that LC had rather than the abstract board game/digital simulation looks of Hitman and Deus Ex. Plus the time-rewinding and nature of the puzzles (less enemies and more adventure game stuff) could allow more organically-placed items and elements.

Plus it wouldn't be tied to an upcoming game like DX GO is to Mankind Divided, so that could give the devs more freedom

Yea when I beat DX GO and unlocked praxis kits for Mankind Divided I thought man I'd have preferred a better game than Lara Croft GO over in game unlocks.

Also Lara Croft GO had those costumes as well for purchase. Wonder why they cut out costumes or that bit from DXGO.

Sounds good that Deus Ex GO is more similar to Hitman GO than Lara Croft GO.
Lara Croft GO was such a disapointment and a bore to play compared to Hitman.

Still undecided on Skyfish, so I went with this new release instead. I think you guys might like it
Hero Generations, $4.99
It's a generational 4X/roguelike hybrid
Explore, find a mate, build a home, and raise a child before you die to keep your legacy going. Hero Generations is simple yet deep: 4X Strategy on the individual level. Each turn is a meaningful choice, without the tedious micromanagement.
This Kotaku review does a good job at describing what makes it unique

That was for the original. The iOS version is a huge revamp with a ton of new content and improvements

I was considering this game a while back but some reviews and videos made it sound like the game gets really repetitive and grindy later on. Biggest complaint I found was that by halfway in the game you'll just be building structures and finding mates for most of the lifespan of your characters instead of actually questing.

The changes make it sounds like something they tried to fix. This is the Regen version, not that original version

It's hilarious to read the excitement of the past two or three pages and eventual disappointment re Jade Empire. At the very least it'll probably make August the largest thread of the year, Ahahaha. ;)

Hey, at least we still got Space Marshals 2 next week

Which now has legit stealth takedowns btw
Very happy about that. 1 might have had sneaking and flanking, but you always had to go on the offensive.

Yeah, that's exactly what it needed and I felt like that was lacking in the first one even though the combat was satisfying. Surely one to look for next week.

Leap of Faith looks interesting. Might grab it later.

Also waiting impressions on Legend of Skyfish.

I bought both and I'd go for Leap of Faith. It's fantastic. If you like dual-stick shooters, it's a must buy. It has rogue like elements but is accessible while still challenging. Incredibly polished with voice overs, upgrades, additional characters to unlock and lots of cool effects.

I actually beta tested this a long time ago (2014) and it had a lot of issues (had to stop testing due to issues with Test Flight I was having at that time). But now it is top notch with excellent controls and runs beautifully on my iPad Mini 2.

Legend of Skyfish is a fun game too. More of a puzzler than a Zelda like adventure (even if it shows some influence from it). You use a fishing rod as like a grappling hook to move you from island to island. It's level based with some light combat, but more focused on figuring out how to open gates, etc.

It's good but I personally am loving Leap of Faith more ATM.

Hmm, thanks. Tempted to pick both!

Does Legend of Skyfish feels like an adventure (even if it's level based) or more like a 3 stars kind of puzzle game?

Skyfish has a bit more of an adventure feel than most level based games but there's not much of a story from what I've played so far. There also is no "star" rating system. The levels can be fairly long so if you die, you start at a checkpoint.

Leap of Fate is excellent. While the controls aren't tight as a Radiangames shooter (but how many are?), it excels in other ways. As a roguelite shooter, there's a constant drip feed of new unlocks, each character has their own unique skills, and there are myriad perks and abilities to unlock and equip. The world is a cool of blend of supernatural and mad science cyberpunk.

Definitely recommended

Been playing Hyperburner and... I expected more from it...

I'm gonna check this out since Pac-Man 256 was a really great game.

Wow, Pixel Cup Soccer 2016 is FREE this week. It's the soccer game that were highly praised and released earlier this year.

Thanks for the info about PCS 2016. Also trying Outfolded

Leap of Fate is great! Controls may take some getting used to but overall I think this was a very well done port. I can see this game staying on my device for a long time judging by the amount of content in the game.

I'm very late to the party, but I'm loving Lara Craft GO.

Initially I dismissed the game thinking it would be just another Hitman GO, which isn't a bad game but it felt too much like one of those 3 stars puzzle games, which I'm a bit tired of.

Lara Craft GO isn't RADICALLY different, but it feels much more organic, like a real, cohesive adventure.

Kind of sad to hear Deus Ex GO is more like Hitman.

Deus Ex GO is really great actually, and those animations dayum. I'm at stage 39 now but with only 8 golds. There's supposedly also daily challenges? Anyway, it's a lot of fun when the more advanced mechanics starts popping up. I'm playing this simultaneously with Lara Croft GO which I am stuck in.

Watched a video and damn, animations are pretty slick indeed.

I will probably grab it, just not at $5 when I haven't even finished Lara Craft GO yet.

What bonuses does the game give to Mankind Divided players?
