iOS Gaming November 2014: GLORIOUS!™

Playing A Dark Room again and I urge anyone who hasn't to give it a try. It may not seem like much from the App Store page, but it is more than it seems at first glance. I don't want to say more because it's the kind of experience that's much better when you go in blind.

So going with the thread title, we should all recommend a GLORIOUS!™ game.

Bridgy Jones, a bridge construction game in which you build the tracks to cross a gap and then must control the train to get across and deliver your cargo safely.

Great art style, especially compared to other games in the genre. The touch control system for building is excellent. It also includes different objectives for each level to make it as challenging as you'd like it to be.

So, is Knock Knock good?
Thanks for the Organ Trail's info post mate, but do you like it then? :)
Yes, I enjoyed Organ Trail. Very retro, but definitely engaging, and you have to make some tough choices

You can try it out on Facebook:
https://apps.facebook.com/organtrail/

You could also get Knock Knock on PC and a bunch of other good PC games for $1 from the current Weekly Humble Bundle

Any recent good Tower Defense games?

Sleep Attack looked quite interesting but has anyone played it?
Have you checked out the latest Sentinel game?
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/sentinel-4-dark-star/id845072358?mt=8

I read some positive impressions of Sleep Attack on the TA forums, haven't played it though

Depending on what level of quality you're after, if it's not too too high, maybe check out the new Star Wars Galactic Defense one.

It's basically Kingdom Rush with a Star Wars theme, and mixed heavy in to an RPG structure, everything can be leveled, and with 2 sides (light/dark), and like 5 difficulty levels per stage, and 20 heroes to mix and match for the levels for the 2 campaigns.

It's actually got so many stats and bonuses for mixing heroes together that compliment each other and heroes that have a relation to the planet you're on, and more, that in some ways it seems like a really deep TD game you could spend a ton of time on... but don't worry, it only lets you play it ~6 times or so every 3 hours.

Really though, it looks pretty decent for a freemium game, runs well, has a neat cell shaded look, more content than even PvZ2, and in a Kingdom Rush skin, but with a ton of changes to it.

Just got an iPhone 6 after spending 2 years on Android. For some reason I've had the urge to play a Kairosoft game lately. What would you guys say is the best one other than Game Dev Story? I'd prefer one of the games where you actually build things (unlike GDS or Grand Prix Story). Any other recommendations for simulation-style games would be appreciated too!

Haven't seen this mentioned :

Looks to be an awesome rogue-like dungeon crawler headed to iOS. Still needs a few bones for its Kickstarter, but definitely has some polish! 2016 :(
These two look awesome as well, both funded

Phoenix Dawn (low poly RPG)

Combo Queen (pixel hack n slash with great animations)

I wonder when Final Fantasy VII G-Bike will be released outside of Japan, doesn't look like something that would take too much time to localize.

Most recent one I played was 'Ninja Village'. Fun and addicting as usual. Never got around to beating it though because it got pretty challenging near the end. Highly recommended if you want a bit of action/rpg lite in a Kairosoft game.

I asked about Gnumz HD in the last thread. Currently free and put in a good amount of hours myself. Its pretty good. I'm surprised im enjoying it because its one of those TDs where you have such a limited amount of towers you can place, but the elemental aspect gives it a nice strategy take.

Downloaded this game based on your recommendation and I'm having a lot of fun with it. It's a very interesting game and becoming a little addictive. Thanks!

I've been beta testing a really cool arcade game called Awesome Boots. Game should be releasing soon, so I thought I might as well post some impressions

Set in a future where boots have been outlawed, you're armed with the powerful Awesome Boots and must defeat increasingly challenging waves of enemies. There's a little Flappy Bird DNA as you can jump indefinitely, allowing you to leap and bounce across the screen with great mobility. And that mobility is needed as the screen gets cluttered with projectiles. Actually, it also feels similar to Super Pixelander as enemies fire their rockets and lasers, as homing missiles and multi-shot rockets arc through the air, and you're deftly maneuvering around them

But you're not defenseless. Not only can you land on enemies to crush them, you also unlock special abilities: reflecting missiles with a kick, dropping mines when you touch the ground, throwing shuriken with each jump, and more. These aspects blend to create a very satisfying and addicting experince

Okay, this Monday release almost seems too good to be true. The World 2 looks like it could be the best giant monster hunting game on mobile since Monster Hunter. And it's only $2, with no IAP

Here's the NZ store link:
https://itunes.apple.com/nz/app/the-world-ii-hunting-boss/id933462805?mt=8

The World 2 is an ACT Game for iPhone. Hunting all the Biggest Bosses!
That allows players the chance to fight the meanest, baddest, and biggest bosses in gaming from the moment they enter the game in a 3D destructible arena. Players will no longer have to fight smaller enemies and trek long hours to get to a raid boss like in most Games.

[These features are from the Greenlight page, but the gameplay and descriptions look the same, so I'll assume that the feature list is also similar. I could be wrong]

* 80 giant mosters to battle
* Destructable areas!
* Join groups from around the world to fight battles
* 6 different hero types (30 heroes available at launch)
* No mini-monsters. Giant bosses EVERYWHERE!
* In the arena mode, you can control some BOSS, to fight with other BOSS. so funny!

Man, I don't know how I missed this release. I started playing it, and it is fun, plus I am a sucker for Star Wars. However, you cannot play it offline, I don't know what the rationale is there, but its super annoying, as I was hoping to play more of it on my ipad on my way in to work, but I cannot.

So now that I've got a 6 plus I've been gaming on it pretty heavily. Gotten about an hour into San Andreas so far. The desire for a MFI controller is increasing at an alarming rate. I'd like one that holds the phone. Is that MOGA rebel any good?

madcatz one is coming out soon.

Weirdly enough i found the touch controls to work surprisingly well for this. analog steering and adaptive controls.

I switched the steering to use the left and right buttons off the bat. Maybe I should switch back to analog.

Is the Madcatz controller supposed to be the best of the bunch?

Finished The Banner Saga. I really enjoyed, but I feel the game should be at least twice as long. 10 hours isn't enough for an epic tale of this kind. It's like showing The Lord of the Rings in half a hour.

I realize it's supposed to be a trilogy, but I kind of hate when games are made with sequels in mind. Just give me the complete experience at once please. This is why I hate episodic games. I only buy them when all episodes are available.

Also, I think the build up to the last boss was kind of underwhelming. You could see it coming but there was no drama, no suspense. It was just kind of there... "Ok now it's the last boss, kill it".

Also, the battle system was a bit too simple for my tastes, as the character customization, but the HP/damage mechanic lead to a refreshing take on turn based combat. I enjoyed, but it falls a little short, gameplay wise. The beautiful animations and artwork make up for it though.

I'm aware it's all about budget though. It's just that they created an amazing world and characters, so I can't help but feel it deserved more (like voice acting). It's still great as it is, but not quite as GLORIOUS as I expected.

Considering this is a Kickstarter project, the end result is pretty amazing, so I'm happy with it. With my expectations now in check, I'll probably play it again when it releases on Android.

Anyway, hopefully the sequel is simultaneously released on PC and iOS (doubtful but one can dream).

So, to briefly go on a tangent...what's that supposed to mean?

This is happening with more and more games and it sucks. There should ALWAYS be an online mode.

IS IT NOVEMBER 6TH YET? NO? OK I'LL CONTINUE PLAYING/FINISHING THIS NON-IOS GAME SHADOW OF MORDOR.

No no, you don't understand. His interest has peaked; it reached an all-time high. He will never be interested in anything else more than Lost Viking. It's all downhill from here :p

For the type of game we're talking about you are correct. :p

You talk big words, Monster Hunter is nearly impossible to match in the genre.

I meant merely in the sense of fighting giant monsters. I can't think of other games like that on IOS besides Monster Hunter. I don't think for a second that this will match Monster Hunter's depth.

I'll have an OT up late Wednesday night for The Sailor's Dream. If anyone finds reviews or other articles about it I'd like to add them to the post.

Still looks like it could be fun. Guess it's an MMO according to the dev's Facebook page so could mean an Intenet connection required deal.

But for $1.99 with no IAPs, I'm kind of skeptical of how good it could be.

Been playing Motorsport manager and my first impression was "this is just silly" similar to when I started game dev story

Few hours later I still can't stop playing it

Wait, Community Forums? In less than two days of being in the Gaming Forums :(?

The monthly Indie Games threads aren't in Community and the IOS threads are more active than those. Why was the IOS thread moved? The September and October threads weren't in Community either

Fuu

Formerly Alaluef (not Aladuf)
Yeah, I don't get the move to community. This thread isn't bumped all the time and it doesn't clog the main page 24/7 like the Steam thread for example. What's the criteria?

I mean, the iOS monthly threads get less bumped than the monthly comics threads in off topic. There are always people new to the ecosystem who see these threads in gaming and jump in to see recommendations, and Tunesmith's great job with the OPs is always useful in that regard.

I think it's a good idea to try and make the community forums more visible and less than a graveyard with insular communities, but that was never the case with these threads in particular. As long as other similar monthly threads are still populating the main forums the move just feels like some sort of weird penance.

Yeah, that's odd. If any thread needs moved to community it would be that Steam one. At least this thread stays on topic most of the time.

hey guys, can someone recommend me a game. to be specific, i want a game where i can micro manage things. but also when i leave i still want the game to be going in the background (or the illusion that time has past). but i would still like for there to be some action (dungeon/fight/etc). also i don't want to be restricted by the number of times i can do said iteam by a currency that i have to pay for. i don't mind paying for an app, but micro transactions rub me the wrong way.

does a game like that exist on Ios?
