While it's disappointing, I understand it. One, Red Hook has been busy working on the Vita/PS4 version and preparing for that launch, so that's time consuming. Two, making a mobile version isn't as easy as switching a game to touchscreen-friendly mode or something like that. Three, it's time and money to work on that and playtest it, and considering that price they would probably have for Darkest Dungeon on iOS, it just might not make sense to have a mobile version.
Oh, I know, trust me I know... C++ / C# / DSP / OSX/XCode / Windows/VisualStudio / Unity over here... I'd love if there was just a nice little toggle switch
I was under the impression that the PS4 was already released, turns out due 27/09; I don''t have a PS4 so not keeping tabs on the development there.
I think a good part of my disappointment does come from the rumours re December / or they were working on it. I think it will be a great for for mobile, but I'm also just happy I have it on OSX/PC. And I'll double-dip for the PS4 when I get one and its released.
Like anything else, Red Hook would need to weigh up the cost/benefit and ROI, thats fully understandable. And of course given the mobile marketplace, well... maybe not enough people put their money where their mouth is?
(ala shelling out for premium titles)
Thats probably the scariest part about game development, espeically in regards to mobile, so given the opportunity to target more, shall we say, "lucrative" platforms first, it would make prudent business sense to do so.
I've got the same scenario, some cats asking for "lesser known" OS support; but its already enough fun dealing with all the different flavours of OSX/Windows, why would I want to add a massive amount of development / testing / support to my plate because one or two people want Linux or Raspberry PI support?
As for Failbetter and Sunless Sea, they've been hard at work on their big expansion, so I don't know if they've been doing any work on a mobile version or if it's still in the works
I haven't dipped my toes in the balmy waters of Fallen London for a while now, hmmm... might have to fix that when I get some spare time.
(But I'll probably play Darkest Dungeon instead)
