Tip: Once you're in one of your sources/boxes (like flickr below), you can swipe to the right to get back home. A lot quicker than hitting the left arrow at the top.

Flipboard sucks.** Cool for a demo but I have no idea why people don't just go to the websites, use a dedicated twitter app or rss feeds.

**I reserve the right to change my opinion if it shows up as a WP app.

So what's the situation with pulling the phone off the charger and it not being fully charged? Have you had your phone replaced for that? It's weird, because I've had the phone since launch and it has only started doing this for the last few weeks. It has been otherwise wonky, though, such as losing internet (wifi) connectivity during the night and not receiving any of my emails. Has anyone else had problems like these? TIA

Once fully charged the battery cycles between 90%-100% because keeping it at 100% is bad for its health (or something like that).

The other one I'm not so sure. I don't think there is actually any setting that keeps an iPhone connected to WiFi when asleep. The iPod Touchs and iPads WiFi remain corrected by default because that's their only source of connectivity but I think the iPhone disconnects from WiFi to save on battery life. Someone correct me if I wrong...

Since reading the "adopt a smartphone since it is 2011" thread, I am looking for every info about iPhone 4s I can possibly found on the internet.

The quality of videos and pictures, the Star Walk app(I always wanted something like that), none of the malware as on Android(from apps), so many apps(I think I wont care since the prices are so low) and et cetera cetera era raaa...

After xmass though.. I must find some good operator with the best internet plan (and everything)..

I can't wait! I can't seem to focus on anything else these days because of how much I want it!

edit: and I am following the abnormal battery drainage problem, so when it will be fixed, I will make the certain move.

I figured as much w the battery, my Evo did it, but I hadn't noticed it until recently. I just wanted to confirm it's not a hardware issue or anything.

As far as the wifi thing, I'm sure it's not connected all the time, but now it won't retrieve my emails or anything when it happens. Not a big deal, just weird. This morning I had to reset the phone before it would connect to my wifi again. I have a suspicion that it might be related to wifi sync, because I'm constantly getting errors related to that. I've turned it off now, so we'll see what happens from here out.

Yeah, I couldn't get my twitter and fb accounts logged in flipboard at all some hours ago when I was tinkering with it, I suspected it was from high demand but it's good to have confirmation. Will try again later.

Downloaded Flipboard, but haven't made any accounts or logged in to any other social feeds.Playing around with it last night....can I set to only read something only like NHL stories rather than every single sports in that Sports category, etc.?

Flipboard keeps making the rounds, but I found it to be a little lacking. It does make feeds look like glossy magazines, sort of. Novelty wears off pretty fast.

I still love my Reeder the best.

Hey everyone, it looks like Friday might be the day I finally get my own iPhone (probably a 4s). Living in my own place now I've been needing internet access and wanted to ask about the personal hotspot feature mainly because the plan I'll be getting includes "unlimited" internet over tethering so I'd like to use it with the PC a lot, especially because it costs as much as I'd pay for phone service and broadband in one.

Is it reliable for prolonged use? Also if any 3 mobile users in the UK could share how speeds are I'd really appreciate it. I anticipate terrible pings, though.

Is there some kind of help or FAQ on Flipboard? I really need to be able to get rid of the Facebook and Twitter tiles and be able to customize the first tile page overall. It's the only way it has a chance of replacing Reeder for me.

Notification center already gives me Twitter/Instagram/whatever social thing updates.
HOW? I'm serious. Ever since the first iOS5 beta, I have never, NEVER received a single notification that a twitter post has been made, unless the post was directed towards me with @myname there.

I have of course, made sure (numerous times) that I have "Messages" set to On in the Twitter app notification settings.

I've never owned a smartphone before, but I'm thinking I'll pick one up in February when I get back from vacation. I'm just lost as to what phone I should get (trying to decide between iPhone 4S and the other Samsung Galaxy one).

I'm leaning towards the iPhone at the moment, and the main hurdle has always been cost and service. I live in Vancouver, so I'm just trying to figure out what is the most reliable service provider that has the best or most cost-effective plan.

Can anybody help me out with some advice here? Honestly, I've got very little experience with these sorts of phones (I'm just rocking a pre-paid flip phone at the moment) which is why I'd appreciate some assistance.

This page just made me realize the iPhone has a percentage indicator for battery life you can turn on.

I'm not too bright.

Tap & hold on a tile to move & remove it.

As far as I know none of the Twitter apps do this (I'm assuming third-party apps can't even if they wanted to). Imagine getting a notification every time someone you follow tweets something. It would be spamming your phone with notifications. Facebook doesn't do this either, for good reason.
"Messages" refers to direct messages btw.

Could anyone recommend a site where you can find cool wallpapers? I just upgraded from 3GS and the previous wallpaper looked weird.

Yeah, it's in no way a substitute for a proper RSS reader for me but it has its merits (strictly speaking about the iPhone version here). I'm going to use different feeds on it with another focus (like getting exposed to interesting pictures, videos and such), and keep using Reeder for getting up to date with my usual news feeds. It's good for some types of content but scanning through a text list organized by date is still my preferred way of getting quickly updated on things.

I hope that in the future they add a feature where you can separate your Google Reader feeds into different tiles (unless it's possible already and I'm missing something). When you sync your account it makes a single "Google Reader" tile and that's not very useful in my eyes when you follow tens of feeds on totally different subjects.

If there's not a built in feed for it, you can always add your own I think via RSS.

Got my first iPhone today (4, got it used).

Man, what a much more pleasant experience...and it's only been like 5 hours.

Fuck Android.

The only thing Android had that I miss is uploading pictures to Facebook from the Gallery.

The US Siri doesn't understand the word 'evil'. Instead, I always get 'evo' for it.

My mistake? Could you please try it?

I am so with you. Day 3 for me. My only disappointment is that Siri cannot serarch UK maps (yes, I asked the blow-job question for a laugh). That'll no doubt be fixed in a future release.

Compared to my janky original Galaxy S, the 4S is such a joy to use now. No more random crashing and oh boy the performance is great. I love O2 for giving me £134 for my craplump of a phone.

I'm not so much against Android, just the crappy Samsung. I'll never buy one of their products (except Hard drives) again.

Neogaf, I need your help! I recently received a ipod shuffle. I synced it to my itunes so I could put music on it, and now itunes doesn't recognize my iphone4. It doesn't even show up on the "devices" section on the side bar. Both itunes and my iphone4 are running on the latest versions. Can anyone help me get itunes to recognize my iphone again?

Tap the Google Reader headline at the top. It doesn't make different tiles, but it separates feeds.

Thanks for the tip, I started messing with it again and found a way to make it separate tiles. I click on the magnifying glass icon > accounts > google reader, and there I can just click on the + in the feeds and they're added as tiles. Unfortunately a lot of the feeds I follow aren't too compatible and just show the title of the news with two incomplete lines of text, but it's good to know I can easily add them individually. For now I'll migrate the ones that look good on Flipboard.

edit: sweet, there are "mark as read after flip" and "show only unread" settings for google reader feeds. I don't really have any more gripes (except for the 4 page limit of the tile hub).

Really? I was frustrated and still do get pissed at the shortcomings of ios when compared to android. Ill take it for the battery life though.

Oh my god scrolling is so fucking bad on iOS.

Well its done!

me and the wife are getting Iphones.

The dude at Verizon waived the Activation fee and is giving me a $100 credit on the account, but somehow I walked out with $137 dollars worth of 2 i-phone cases, a car charger, 2 headphones and a windshield mount. I guess the $100 credit will cover that.

damn sales people.

Did you get $50 credit on the primary account?

Every two years the primary line gets $50

Hmmm I don't know, I am new to Verizon. I am switching from tmobile. I told the rep that I wanted them to make it easy for me to switch since I have to buy out my wifes contract and he said he would give me $100 credit and set me up with some kind of accessory package ($50 dollars for 3 accessories for each phone or something) when I paid today it was $137 for accessories and $426 for the 2 phones.

The reciept for accessories says I saved $46 dollars.

I don't know what is going on.

Can anyone recommend a pouch-style case for the 4S? I just want something that's easily removable, because I'll only use it during actual transport like when it's in my bag or in my pocket, but it'll probably stay off when I'm at home.

I may just go with this, but I'd like to hear if anyone has a better suggestion:

edit: actually, something that lets you access the screen when it's on is ideal

Zite is now on iPhone. its the highly rated Magazine App originally iPad only

Yeah it's pretty cool, but this and Flipboard are hard to use sometimes when tapping an article brings you to the desktop website page and the text is so small and impossible to read without zooming.

Why doesn't it automatically pull the text like Reader does in Safari to make it readable?

That's why I don't sync my Google Reader with Flipboard/Zite because the articles themselves aren't readable.
