Well, I'd be more afraid if I was the only one with the problem.

Edit: Beaten

Also Phoenix, I'm not able to reproduce it reliably, it really seems sporadic. Almost like there's a memory leak that builds up

Don't bother downloading it separately, just get it tomorrow. Heck 347 may not even be the final version. Would not surprise me AT ALL if as soon as you start your phone there is an update for it.

Yeah, that's probably good ad -

GOOD GOD DO IT.

There are no downsides!

Upsides only!

I have a mission critical conference call for work tomorrow and I risked it just to see if Monkey Ball was awesome. Woo living dangerously!

...on the other hand. OK! Fine!

*downloads and begins installation*

Ok this should be cool to tr-

Or, maybe you learned that I'm certainly not to be trusted. Nor to be considered the voice of reason.

HOLY CRAP

i've been spending the last half-hour downloading about every free app that looks interesting (a lot more than i expected would), and i'm wondering if you can even have that many on the touch at once. i noticed there were only three pages to the main menu.....does it add more pages when it needs them?

I believe you can have 9 pages.

Oh, and Pandora Radio is SICK. I entered a few artists I liked and now I'm listening to free music OTA that matches my tastes surprisingly well.

Oh well, the deed is done. I'll just restore if I have any problems to get the 'official'.

*fires up AppStore*

EDIT: Oh God Remote is cool.

So, my brother stopped by our outdoor mall's apple store, and they're not allowing lineups until 5:00 AM. You know what this means? Leave at 4:00 AM, wait in parking lot, wait in line.

i am going to be at the AT&T store at 8am sharp........hopefully the 8 gigs aren't sold out.

2 Local area Sacramento, CA stores report 10+ people in line @ close of business. I'm hoping 4am is the magic number to get one; I wanted a 16GB White, but we'll see what I get.

Why the hell does it do a 5 minute backup now every time I sync? 1.x I was able to sync in a few seconds if there weren't any changes. This is :(

Is it just me, or is anyone else thinking that nearly every application is basically useless? I haven't looked at each one yet, but that seems to be the gist of it.

I actually agree. I think after a few weeks most people will settle in and end up really using like 1/10th the apps they downloaded.

Agreed, I hate this part. I think it's backing up the apps or some shit, I don't know what, but it sucks.

Ick! Be careful syncing Google contacts. I just got dumped with 500 e-mail addresses that don't really represent contacts which are now mucking up my contacts menu. That'll be a while to clear out (if you get hit with it, use smart groups in address book to clear out items without a name set or something)

Also, if you delete an app from your phone and it exists in your iTunes library, you're going to get that app installed again when you sync.

Edit: And apps you buy on the phone aren't backed up during sync to the computer. Weird.

You're clearly speaking as a consumer - it is clear from both your premise and how you're attempting to derive your conclusion.
Yes, very much so. And you yourself are attempting to speak for what the consumer at large would do.

Go back through the last 10-5 pages of the thread and see all the people saying "hey this made me realize that I can sit just fine with my iPhone". These were people who were DAYS EARLIER planning to camp out or go to the Apple store to get an iPhone with absolute certainty. You tell me how losing these people (and you will see the same sentiment echo'd on MacRumors, Digg, Slashdot, etc.) makes good business sense.
Other things have happened in the last few days besides this realization, which people could have made at any time in the past several months (and they have) since Apple has never made any indication that 1G iPhone owners would be deprived of the AppStore. One of the things in particular that has occurred in the past few days are lukewarm reviews from institutions like WSJ and NYT who have traditionally been favorable to Apple's latest products. There's also the particulars of the voice/data plans that have also dampened some interest.

So they didn't just have the sudden realization in a vacuum that they'd have access to the AppStore on 1G models. You're own premise here is biased towards the notion that AppStore availability alone is driving 1G retention among existing iPhone customers. That's not the case, and therefore the motivation to upgrade to 3G isn't strictly controlled by there being arbitrary exclusivity of the AppStore.

I may have missed it, but does anyone know how the DRM works with paid apps? Is it like the music store were you can store up to a limited number of devices?

WTF. I'm a cingular customer and have been waiting for this phone. I can't get one?

You have to be eligible to early upgrade, or have had your 2yr contract expire. In some cases it's up to manager discretion to approve early upgrades. the ATT site, the apple site, the apple toll free number, the ATT toll free numbers, and ATT local numbers all prompt you with information on how to check upgrade eligibility.

Oh, I'm totally not ready for one. I've only been in this contract for about two months. Mother fucking son of a bitch. Fuck you, Apple.

Were you already a Softbank user? Was it a hassle changing over?

I nonchalantly went to my local Softbank shop around noon and they were all gone :/

Black, White?! Pics?! How's the back plastic with scratches and smudges? Like the PSP and ipods?

White 16Gig.... I don't have any way of getting you pics atm... but tis sexay.

I'll post pics a little later, I'm still at work!
I had to sneak out of work to get to the store...

I was already a Softbank user, so I cancelled my old contract and started a new double white plan! No hassle what so ever...I was in and out of the store in 45 minutes.

The iphone in Japan is 3G only (as far as I know).

Um, okay, has anyone tried the Shazam app?

It says it can ID songs by 'listening' to them. Has anyone tried it?

Edit: Holy Shit it does.

Not perfect, and probably pretty limited in it's abilities (it couldn't identify the 'what music is this' thread :D ) but I tried it with a song from my iTunes and from the first music video I came across on Youtube and it worked.

Pretty sweet.

Rapidshare links to the files were posted on MacFourms then the thread was deleated. A few people said the files were legit beofre the thread died.

I am still holding off for as long as I can though incase there is something slighly differnet about the files that mess up my Touch.

Does anyone know what happens if you transfer your number from another provider before your contract is up? My wife has Sprint currently and wants to get an iPhone tomorrow but her contract isn't up until early August. What are her options to pick up an iPhone tomorrow without getting penalized by Sprint?

For those that upgraded to 2.0 already, have you noticed a decrease in reception? My phone keeps switching between no service and low service since the upgrade.

QuickSilverGunk said:
Yes, I forget what it is, I think without a plan it's like $0.04** to receive and $0.10-$0.15 to send.

*could be wrong
Incorrect on both accounts. I just googled it, and AT&T -- rat bastards that they are -- charge 20 cents for both sending and receiving. I really want an iphone but AT&T is horseshit.
