so anyone run into any sell out stories yet?

my friend went to 1 att store and they sold out, hes looking at other stores now, im buying his old iphone for a $100 so im hoping he grabs 1 today

See my post above.

Okay, for the few lucky SOBs that actually do have their iPhone-3G stateside (which is including myself), am I the only one have problems syncing this device to iTunes? I continue getting this error stating..

"We could not complete your iTunes store request. A secure network connection could not be established"

This is my first time attempting syncing a Apple device to iTunes, am I missing something?

Currently proud owner of a bricked OG iPhone.

Will try and see if the damned update can connect to iTunes when I get home and finish, but for now it's back to the good old Kyocera phone.

I powered everything off as the iPhone itself was heating up like mad while feebly attempting and failing to update and I don't want to come home to a pile of ashes because of some stupid tech problem.

So I download 200MB of garbage and the damned thing won't update without an internet teat? :\

Way to go Apple.

Most phone providers and carriers are a bit smarter about this and tend to distribute out things a lot more to avoid the circus that is iPhone activation.

And just think - you're going through ALL THIS SHIT because they didn't want people activating phones at home!

Yeah I got mine activated before it crashed but some people didn't get there's today because it never came back up.

WARNING TO ALL 1G users planning to upgrade your firmware - WAIT!!!

Part of the firmware update process usually (though strangely enough not always) involves a step to activate the phone again through an iTunes sync. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DO THIS!!! The activation issues for the 3G folks will impact you as well and you will have an iBrick until this whole launch circus is over.

The clicking backward and forwards between the iTunes Store and the iPhone for Activation works.

My mate just got his activated in 2 minutes after 45 minutes of "Accessing iTunes Store' and times outs previously.

The clusterfuck that is Apple/AT&T IT continues. To anyone waiting in line or whatever - know this, I just left the Apple store in Atlanta, GA (had other stuff to deal with for a MacBook Pro) and the entire process is halted right now because the activation servers necessary to complete the transaction are dead the world over.

Good job.... gooooooood job :) Gotta love that capacity planning.
you picked TODAY to go get your laptop looked at? you're a brave man.

how big was the crowd at lenox? i remember looking at the line that wrapped down to bloomingdales for the launch last year.

Hard decision. I want to keep my iphone jailbroken but I want to take a look at this new stuff and the app store.

Keep it jailbroken.

The "official" iPhone is still just a middling level piece of hardware / software design. Really a shame some of the standard customization features are unavailable to those who don't have jailbroken models.

And the App Store is resembling those discount software bins you see clogging retail aisles, only a digital incarnation of it. :\

2.0 has been unlocked and jailbroken.
The program will probably come out later today for the public.

No luck on my end on getting the upgrade done :lol think I'll need to take this to work + try it on a faster internet connection.

Good job Apple, not only are some new customers not able to activate they've also managed to lock out *current* iphone customers.

Wow now this is really fucked.

Waited for 3 hours and got an 8GB phone. And now iTunes is fucked. oh well at least I managed to get it. Also getting the error -4

Glad I used the "black market" 2.0 update :) Now I can enjoy these apps and when all the hoopla and mess of the official 2.0 update is over, I'll go ahead and do that.

I figured that since I had to swap out my 1G iPhone, would have waited a reasonable amount of time for a 3G iphone since I need one for testing, and since the feet on my MacBook Pro could all be solved at the same place I might as well do it all today. You can actually bypass the line (which stretches down to Bloomingdales and BACK since they can't activate phones) for non iPhone 3G stuff.

Be happy. I'm still trying to unbrick mine. They sent me home with it in this state.

Man, this is a fucking disaster. You can't upgrade to the new firmware because you can't activate, you can't buy the phone because you have to activate in the store, and .me is still crashing from time to time.

I hate to say it because I know their pain, but somebody needs to be fired.

heh, now that i think about it, nobody's there for the genius bar. probably a good a time as ever to get something fixed.

i've been trying to update my touch since i woke up. now it's giving me the 'update' button but the apple store is 'down'. has anyone gotten it to go yet?

You sure about that? I'm sitting at home with an iPhone that does nothing for me, as it couldn't be activated/unbricked in the store. Supposedly it is on AT&Ts network, but I have no way to verify that of course.

Are you in the US?

REPEAT: THIS WORKS FOR ACTIVATION:

In iTunes, alternately click between something in the iTunes store and your iPhone. Apparently this maintains an open session. As you keep that session open with activity you keep your place in the virtual line for re-activation of your phone after the upgrade. One user reported 10 minutes, took me less than five.

I've been waiting for 3 hours in store while they figure out why the B2B accounts are not allowing the sale, even though my account is flagged as upgradable and retail sellable.

Won't make a difference since the iTunes server is down.

Here's a bunch of pics of my new iPhone from Softbank in Japan.

I was in line for the iPhone. I was the last person selected to actually receive one. While they were setting me up, they determined that I needed to call my dad to get him to set me up as an authorized user. After I get ahold of him and settle everything, I find out that they gave my iPhone to someone else.
#$@#$%@#$@%@#$%!

Wait. Although I'm sure it will be pretty safe, right now there's nothing regarding Jailbreak/Unlock/Hacktivation for 2.0 ... apparently the iPhone-Dev team already has working, near final, tools that will be able to Jailbreak/Unlock/Hacktivate 2.0. I'm pretty confident that by the end of the day they will release a new version of the Pwnage Tool that supports 2.0 firmware.

Right now they are teasing at doing some experiments with the tools on 3G phones. They might manage to hack the device day 1!

Went to the store around 7 AM and there was already a line around the store. I was about the 100th person in line and the store had 80 phones. I stayed around for a bit and ended up with the chance to pick up an 8GB version (because of people not being eligible or not authorized account users), but I left because I want the 16GB version. I did the pre-pay thing and will have a phone within 7 days (according to the AT&T employee). If I find a phone before that, I can cancel at anytime without a charge.

God damn it Apple. Stop cockteasing with that iPod Touch 2.0 firmware only to have it tell me that the store can't complete the request.

Lots of people getting the white one in this thread. Is it because of preference or availability?

The store I was in this morning were out of black 16gb, and I wouldn't "settle" for a white one.

So even though my iPhone-3G has been activated and is working by itself, is it still required for me to sync it with iTunes just to transfer files? Also has anyone here in the U.S. been able to sync their iPhone-3G on iTunes?

shit, never thought of that...maybe I'll wait til next week, I certainly don't want the white one at all.

Um, how do I update to 2.0 again? iTunes says I'm already up to date and it's not 2.0.
