Phoenix said:Most phone providers and carriers are a bit smarter about this and tend to distribute out things a lot more to avoid the circus that is iPhone activation.
And just think - you're going through ALL THIS SHIT because they didn't want people activating phones at home!
you picked TODAY to go get your laptop looked at? you're a brave man.Phoenix said:The clusterfuck that is Apple/AT&T IT continues. To anyone waiting in line or whatever - know this, I just left the Apple store in Atlanta, GA (had other stuff to deal with for a MacBook Pro) and the entire process is halted right now because the activation servers necessary to complete the transaction are dead the world over.
Good job.... gooooooood jobGotta love that capacity planning.

Phoenix said:WARNING TO ALL 1G users planning to upgrade your firmware - WAIT!!!
Part of the firmware update process usually (though strangely enough not always) involves a step to activate the phone again through an iTunes sync. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DO THIS!!! The activation issues for the 3G folks will impact you as well and you will have an iBrick until this whole launch circus is over.

heh, now that i think about it, nobody's there for the genius bar. probably a good a time as ever to get something fixed.Phoenix said:I figured that since I had to swap out my 1G iPhone, would have waited a reasonable amount of time for a 3G iphone since I need one for testing, and since the feet on my MacBook Pro could all be solved at the same place I might as well do it all today. You can actually bypass the line (which stretches down to Bloomingdales and BACK since they can't activate phones) for non iPhone 3G stuff.

Phoenix said:Man, this is a fucking disaster. You can't upgrade to the new firmware because you can't activate, you can't buy the phone because you have to activate in the store, and .me is still crashing from time to time.
I hate to say it because I know their pain, but somebody needs to be fired.
Seth C said:You sure about that? I'm sitting at home with an iPhone that does nothing for me, as it couldn't be activated/unbricked in the store. Supposedly it is on AT&Ts network, but I have no way to verify that of course.
In iTunes, alternately click between something in the iTunes store and your iPhone. Apparently this maintains an open session. As you keep that session open with activity you keep your place in the virtual line for re-activation of your phone after the upgrade. One user reported 10 minutes, took me less than five.

This. I want to try the apps I bought!Crisis said:God damn it Apple. Stop cockteasing with that iPod Touch 2.0 firmware only to have it tell me that the store can't complete the request.
Worm_Buffet said:Lots of people getting the white one in this thread. Is it because of preference or availability?
The store I was in this morning were out of black 16gb, and I wouldn't "settle" for a white one.
