AT&T store I went to completely boned the launch this morning.
-They opened an hour late (Right as I was arriving hoping to have avoided most of the rush)
-Refused to say how many phones they'd gotten
-The line moved around 10 feet per hour
-After my first hour the assistant manger came out and marveled at how short the line was (It would be another three hours before I reached the front)
-After an hour and a half she came out and started coaching the line about how to give a stellar review about her (Fives are all that matter! They just hold one through four against us! And be sure to leave a voice message about how great we were and mention names!)
-Two hours in they started trying to sell us accessories and announced they'd sold out of 16GB white
-Two and a half they announced they'd sold out of 16GB black
-Three hours they finally did a line count and told us they'd gotten 110 for the store, but wouldn't say anything more
-Oh and after they counted the line they wouldn't say at what point in the line that they'd run out
-Every 15-20 minutes the assistant manager would come out and complain to us about how cold it was outside, then walk back inside
-We finally got out of the shade and in some sun, so she came out to tell us how cold it was and that we were wrong about it being warm
-Other shit that I just can't bring myself to continue typing about
-Finally get two people from the door and they announce the guy at the door is getting the last one
-I waited another 15 minutes to finally get inside to just place an order
-Get inside and they walk me over to a kiosk to show me an iphone "Yea, I'm already sold on it, I just want to order one" "Ok, i just wanted to should you some features and less you play around with it." Great! I love playing with a toy that I'm not going to get for who knows how long since you won't tell me anything!
-They tell me to wait for a checkout stand to open
-Five minutes later a woman walks in to pay her bill and when a stand opens they tell me to wait and escort her to it
-10 minutes later a guy waves me up "I just want to order my iphone." "Oh, I can't do that." and I was just about to lose it when the guy next to him freed up and took care of my order

I can't wait for them to call me for a survey so I can tell them Emily is the worst customer service rep I've ever had to deal with and that includes Comcast.

And then I got home and my asshole neighbor has stolen my assigned parking spot. Fuck this day.

Alright, so I've moved from last night's "Unofficial 2.0" firmware to today's "official 2.0" firmware.

Had a couple scary messages along the way, but it looks like it's okay. Phone re-activated and then took it's sweet time restoring from a backup (the backup includes all of your apps and their settings, which is why it takes longer).
 
As an experiment I bought Trism on my actual iPhone and then docked it to my iMac. iTunes - as usual - asked if I wanted to transfer purchased items from my phone to the library on my iMac. I said yes, but instead of merely copying over Trism, it decided to a complete backup and then add Trism to my library. I certainly hope that's not its usual behavior because that took a damn long time.
 
to update or upgrade... can't decide if I should update my gen 1 iphone to 2.0, or splurge for the 3G and unlock and sell my 1.1.4 phone.

Any feedback or advice?

I dunno. I'd prolly just stay with your iPhone OG.

3G speeds arent that impressive, but it could just be the fact that today is launch.

My 3G service keeps cutting in and out.
 
I've never had a huge prob w/EDGE... I just want to be able to use internet APPS like the AOL radio app, etc.

I also stream the 1UP podcasts to my phone when I'm at the gym, if EDGE can do that, the 3G will do that without a hitch.
 
iphone noob question:

i've downloaded some apps via itunes on my comp. How do I get it to install on the iphone? I tried double clicking and dragging it to the phone but nothing seems to work.

Make sure you have the 2.0 firmware first, otherwise it will not sync, period. (If you bought an iPhone 3G it should have 2.0 on it already).

In the Devices part click on your iPhone and then press Check For Update button to make sure its the most recent version. Once it's upgraded you should see an Applications tab along with the rest and you could choose what to sync there.

since i'm here: does anyone know if there is a way to grab the contacts off a blackberry then import them into the iphone?

Got the bitch updated, but now my fucking USB2.0 card isn't recognized by my mac (hmmm stopped working after the last update?) and now I have to restore several gigs of data via USB1.0? >:O

What a great first impression of the iPhone 3G, Apple... There was probably 200 or 300 people behind me too, feel sorry for them :lol

I got in line at 7:30 am. I left the store with my phone at 6 pm.
 
Anyone know where the best place is to just get some cheap screen protectors for the iPhone? I don't plan to buy a case or anything, I just don't want the screen getting scratched up.

Make ringtone in whatever program you want (40 seconds or less), drag file into Garage Band track, export as ringtone.

Damn...that's insane. You should have told them who you are!!

Actually had a relatively good experience at the Apple Store in my area. Showed up at around 3pm, and was assured they'd have enough phones if I waited in line. They told me I'd have one in about one hour and 45 minutes. Line moved quickly, got my phone in about about an hour and it took them about 10-15 minutes tops to upgrade/activate. I was shocked.

im not 100% sure but i think pwnage tool is about to be released tonight, not sure if its strictly to unlock OG iphones or the 3G though

I know, I know. It's screwed up. But once you get to hour 3 and you're in line... you're like, "shit, I don't want to just hop out of line with nothing to show for it." Then again had I known the duration of time I still had to go...I would've jumped out immediately.

Here was my experience today. I read this thread, decided no way was I going to try. Then I called the apple store for the hell of it and they said they had black 16 gigs (bout 3:30). So I get to the mall at 3:45ish, see the line. It's all people playing with their old iphones. I realized how ridiculous it was that I was about to sit in line for 2 hours for a marginal upgrade to a product I had only had a year, when I could get it next week in 20 minutes.

I scolded myself and went and bout a case of beer.

But, uh CJ...way to go bro!
 
visual voicemail alone is worth buying this phone

when my dad feels the need to leave me 40 messages a day, i can just delete them in seconds instead of filtering through
 
Ok, I've got a question about the apps. If I buy some apps can I use them on more than one iPhone/Touch? Or do they get locked to one machine with DRM?
 
Got in line at 6:45am and walked out with an activated phone at 8:57am. As much as I wanted an iPhone, I don't think I could waited in line 8-12 hours like some of you. Somewhere around 4 hours I wouldve probably just taken my chances on shipments coming in tommorow.
 
I'm glad i'm poor and have to be content with a 5 year old flip phone that works great. All I need is to be able to make and receive calls,text and calculator :P

Anyone else got theirs hooked up to Exchange? If so is the keyboard painfully slow when typing a message? For me its fast everyplace but typing a message. The connecting throbber just keeps spinning.

Considering I bought my first Apple product ever less then a year ago and before then exclusively used Window machines, perhaps Microsoft should learn how to market worth a damn and I'd give a crap about any Sideshow other than the one that consists of Vista's crappiness being on display.
 
ok so I have a question..

I am using mobile flickr on my phone and when I upload a picture that is on my phone already, when I go to flickr its upside down. If I rotate it, and then I go look at the other sizes, the picture is sideways..

Anyone have an issue like this?

question about mobileme.com: how come it says that mobileme should show up in the sysprefs, when i still have .mac there? is it coming in an update? i signed up for the trial and can't log into the me.com website or anything.
 
i just updated mine and for some reason i got monkey balls, i didnt buy it, its not in my purchased list but its in my apps and it works.....thanks apple? :)

Run Software Update, there should be an update for that.
