After hving searched constantly for a case I like since I got my iPhone, Ive decided I dont need/want one. They all fuck up the feel/look of the phone, and I havent managed to scratch it yet.

I have big hands and a case-less iPhone is a little too thin for me. I like Agent 18 stuff.

I just thought of a perfect app. It would be nice if you could schedule the time of day when your phone goes into silent mode and automatically takes it out of silent mode at a time you specify. It's always a hassle taking my phone in and out of silent mode when I am at work or at home.
Windows Mobile has this and I miss it greatly. That was a great feature. I know the iPhone uses the hardware switch but I wonder if an app can just decrease the volume all the way to substitute for a silent mode.

Is it really that hard to throw the switch? Takes like five seconds.

I can see the benefit. Every single day before work and after work I'm switching modes, so why couldn't I just set the Clock app to do it for me? It's just like setting an alarm, except it just turns the volume down.

I guess. I don't work in a place that requires you to turn off your phone's ringer, unless I'm in a meeting or something.

If it takes you five seconds to flip that switch, you have a bigger problem :lol

Seriously though, it's just that sometimes I might forget. It's pretty convenient to have the ringer on and off automatically in between classes and all that. Since I don't have that done automatically, I usually just leave it on vibrate all day and turn it back on at night for the alarm.

I was giving you the benefit of the doubt as to why you were complaining about having to throw the switch. if it's taking you less than 5, including taking it out of case or what ever, then you have even less to complain about.

What is the best way to get Roma on the iPhone using Windows? WinSCP seemed to work fine but after launching the emulator, they don't show up. Thanks in advance.

I also agree. Except it would be really cool that instead of basing it on time, that whenever my iPhone detects my home wireless network (so hence I'm at home), it turns the volume up. Otherwise it goes into vibrate mode.

It could also use the GPS. This is the sort of clever shit those functions were made for, but we'll never have it with the current development system.

EWW. iTunes is failing to clear out app data after removing apps. I've removed EVERY app from my phone just to try to recover space, and iTunes isn't doing it. Ridiculous!

Look, 0 apps installed and it's taking up 1.21GB!

This has happened to me a few times, actually, but with "other."
Even though on that screen it says the space is being used, it actually isnt... at least in my case. Try to fill it up and see what happens.

Which is a shame, as there's a clever unofficial app that uses GPS to either alert you when you're near a target, or to send someone a SMS to say you're almost there or what have you.

I've noticed this with memory cards. I have to empty the trash can before the space shows back up. Maybe that's it?

Nope, phone wasn't let me do anything claiming it was out of space. I had to do a restore. :(

Wow! Now THAT is ugly.
My friend has one and in person the case does not look that ugly. Actually the case looks pretty awesome and feels like you are about to throw a hand grenade or something. :lol

It's not flipping the switch that is the problem it is just me being lazy or forgetful. There is nothing more embarrassing then being an important meeting and Back To The Future's Huey Lewis and The News - "Power Of Love" starts blaring out of my pocket because I forgot to silence my phone, which actually happened before. I just wish there was an app that lets you schedule your phone to be silenced or not. I just want to set and forget it!

Quick question for anyone, but if I set "Push" to check every hour, is that for every single app?! I just want my mail to check every hour. If what I said is the case, is there a way to just have mail check every hour?

Something similar happened to me. In my case, iTunes started counting my apps as "other" data and it sort of annoys the hell out of me.

Oh well, I'm using this silly forced restore as an opportunity. I'm switching from an all-smart-playlist lineup on my 8GB iPhone to an all-genius-playlist. I've still got a couple to add, but I feel very good about what's been generated so far.

I've really been impressed with Genius. Most importantly, because it's so far never picked a song that was far off the mood of the first song (unlike Pandora in my experience). I never ever have gotten a loud obnoxious song for a playlist generated from a down tempo one.

God forget my question I asked above, I am an idiot. I'm thinking Push affects Fetching and it looks like e-mail, calendar, and contacts only are affected by Push and Fetch, not apps.

Well now I feel like a fucking idiot.

I've always made fun of people who put cases on their iPhones and tonight I dropped mine real hard on the wet concrete in the parking lot. There's now a noticeable scuff mark on the back of the phone (right near the camera). I guess I kinda got lucky all things considered as the camera lens didn't get scratched nor did my touch screen break.

Thinking of getting a case now after this. I just hate how bulky most of them are and how you'd need to remove it every time you dock it etc.

The only game I play on my iPhone is Tris. I need some new games, but none of them hold my interest.

The clock for silent mode isn't about "taking that extra second to flip the switch", it's about forgetting to press the switch before a lecture and having it ring and you scrambling to take the phone to stop it from doing so. I just keep mine in silent at all times as a result.

I'm really, really considering buying the $20 Japanese app tonight as I start up studying 日本語 again, but I'm having a really hard time committing to an app that expensive, as it just seems like eventually it'll have to come down some, even though it looks like an excellent interface for an offline-accessible searchable dictionary.

Anyone else have it that can vouch for it?

How did these people ever deal with any other cell phone?

Beejive IM has been released. It's $15.99. Anybody willing to try it and share their experiences for the rest of us? I won't buy any iPhone app over $5 unless I know for certain it's worth it.

Y'know... if no one else will step up and do it, I might take the bullet for GAF on this one. If I don't see anyone else willing within the next 15 MINUTES, I'll go and buy it. Consider it a gesture of respect, Kohler.

Except it doesn't have notifications for when you have Safari closed, or configurable notification sounds, or the ability to email yourself a chat log, or a UI that doesn't take an abysmal time to load.
So yeah... no other takers yet?

EDIT: OK FINE, I'll do it. BRB with the verdict.

Oh ok. :D

Just do what I do and have MSN send you texts when someone talks to you when you're offline =P An IM program that can't run in the background isn't the most useful thing to me.

OK... I just spent 5-10 minutes with it, and I can already tell... the QA'd this thing like no one's business. EXTREMELY fast to load, no slowdown except when loading buddy icons (I'm on EDGE, so that's why, I think), seems to work pretty brilliantly.
The send/receive tones aren't really to my taste, cribbing the "speech bubble" look of the SMS app isn't really appealing to me, and it's taking me some getting used to that when you type a message, a large black bubble pops up and obscures the chat, which is... FRIGHTENING.

But seriously, it's SO responsive, even moreso than a few Apple apps I could name. Hate to say it, but this is the Cadillac of IM apps for iPhone for the time being.

All I want is the Hyundai of IM apps, which one is that - Palringo?

I've got a soft silicon case for my new replacement iPhone. Hopefully that will provide enough protection for when I drop it. It's an inevitability sadly, no matter how careful I am. The last one I had I dropped it onto a hard surface, there was a very small mark on the top lefthand corner where it hit but it was fine. I've also bought a hard shell case as well but be warned that those will scratch the shit out of the back of the phone when you put it on. And they're proper bastards to get off too.
