The arstechnica review confirmed all my fears about playing the game with your finger :( Has anybody played the game with a stylus yet?

There are a few developed to work withe the iPhone's capacitive touchscreen. The one I have my eye on is the Pogo stylus. I think they'll be announcing a new design soon (a new method of keeping the stylus attached to the phone) so I'll wait until after MacWorld.

I don't know how well it'll work with Amature Surgeon though (or the the other apps they link to). It has the biggest tip I've ever seen on a stylus...

It is for iPhones, but not for iPod Touchs.

This is from my gmail account. Has anyone run across this problem? Just noticed it today, never happened before. Should I just delete the gmail account from the phone and open a new one in settings?

edit: I deleted the gmail account and started created a new one. Didn't fix the problem. Still showing up with the -1. If I get a new email in the gmail account the -1 disappears but if I open the new mail the -1 re-appears. Help?

I had the exact same thing happen to me a few days back. It was weird, and I couldn't get it to correct itself. I ended up having to delete and recreate the account as well.
 
Anyone know what original iPhones are selling for these days? I should probably get rid of my old one, it's just been sitting in a drawer.

The only thing that seemed to fix the problem is a full restore through iTunes.

I just got an iPhone 3G today and I'm messing around with it at work. I've joined the brotherhood and I love this thing!

Hook me up gaf and tell me what I should do to it when I get back home (of course the gaf web app will be downloaded asap).

My hospital refuses to open the 993 (or whatever) it is port in the firewall for me to use IMAP gmail over the WiFi so I use the safari page to access email. There is no 3G service in this area yet.
 
i downloaded the VLC4iPhone app but how do I get the actual videos on the iphone?

Is there any app for visual voicemail? For T-mobile users?

Shit, I also need to know how to activate youtube on it. Sigh, this stuff is confusing somewhat... I only get the gist of what I'm doing. I need someone to point me in the right direction.

There are three ways to get files unto your iphone: through the usb connection with a program like diskaid, through wifi with by connecting with netatalk or through wifi by connecting with ssh. Diskaid is self explanatory. There is a connection guide section on netatalk's cydia page. And the for 'hardest' of the bunch, openssh, here is a guide.

Its horrible.
The pacman port is super addicting but I cant play it while listening to music.

Actually, sometimes yeah.

1. Cue up what music you want to play. Pause it.
2. While in a game, press the sleep/wake button.
3. Double-tap home to bring up the mini iPod controls and hit play
4. Unlock the phone and you're in the game, and music may be playing.

I downloaded diskaid... I'm guessing you can't choose where to save stuff on the phone, it decides it for you?

I'll try the second one.

Just tried doing this with Monkey Ball, and to my surprise it actually worked.

Well done, sir. It's good to see someone use their hacking skills for good.
 
What's the verdict on Jailbreaking an iPhone 3G that is properly unlocked? Good bad?

Or just double click the home button while in the game and press play to resume your music that was paused from the game..?

(requires the double click home button to be set for ipod)

Yes, you can choose where to save files. There is a drop down menu on the lower left hand side that says media, click it and go into the root file system.
 
Just got my new iPhone that I was originally scheduled to get on Christmas a little early as my old cell phone finally just plain broke. Love it so far. Some questions...

1. Is it possible to see Adobe flash stuff on an iPhone?
2. What are the best free games? (Google didn't help much.)
3. How do you play NES games on this? (Just the legal steps please.)
4. How do you set it to vibrate? (I admit I've done nothing to figure this out myself yet.)

Not yet, but "soon". Adobe has Flash running on the iPhone, but the performance requires something particular for Apple to give them a "pass" on so they can make it work at reasonable performance - or so I hear :D

At any rate, all of the Google, Nokia, Symbian, WIndows Mobile, Linux and LG phones are heading straight to REAL FlashPlayer 10 and you'll see those REALLY soon.

I really have to take issue with this Ars review. First of all, it's pretty clear she only played the very first stage before writing this "review" -- she only mentions things from the very first stage and doesn't talk at all about gameplay elements introduced in the second or third stage (like extracting items out of the body). Secondly, for some reason she zoomed in when doing the rib puzzle? You don't need to zoom in there, in fact I've played through the first 12-13 stages and haven't used zoom once. Basically, she made it way more difficult on herself than she needed to.

I seriously doubt she played more than 10 minutes before writing this.

Don't listen to that review guys, the game is awesome and well worth the 5 bucks.

I fucking finally got the internet to work. I ordered the $9.99 web2go plan from T-mobile since the rep said they didn't have the $5.99 plan anymore. She told me to enter internet2.voicestream.com in APN settings. It didn't even connect to anything with that setting. Then I tried epc.tmobile.com and it at least got me to a page saying I need to upgrade my service. Finally, I tried wap.voicestream.com and voila! It works like a charm. Slow compared to my Wi-Fi but it's better than paying $24.99 a month. That's like paying another cable internet bill. Shit.
