Why wouldn't you just wait to get the TomTom app which will be a one time 30 dollar charge from a tried and true GPS company?Sean said:AT&T Navigator app has just been released. It's free to download but adds a $10 to your monthly bill (just like on other phones).

This app is just another reason to hate AT&T!
Agreed, the car kit looks awesome as long as the mount is strong enough to not fall off all the time (as my default TomTom mount did).Sean said:That is what I'm waiting for also, though I really doubt it'll be a one time $30 charge.
I'm mostly looking forward to TomTom's because of their car kit solution, seems like a really nice accessory. I just have a bad feeling there's gonna be a sticker shock when the price is revealed.
and the unlock is out now for those waiting for itMecha_Infantry said:Running 3G jailbroken 3.0 iPhone = heaven!

I don't believe they've given a date just yet, however a summer or holiday release makes sense.Cheebs said:When is TomTom out for 3GS?
They showed off the interface and their cradle accessory at WWDC, so I can only imagine they are fairly far along.xabre said:Been hearing about TomTom GPS for iPhone since the 3G launched. I'll believe it when I see it.
I've heard a $30 price-point kicked around, but I have no idea where it came from or how realistic it is.xabre said:Any idea on the cost? I've needed a GPS for a long time and have resisted so far in favour of an iPhone solution.

Within the year seems completely reasonable.
...and what a forward thinking company TomTom is. Stand-alone devices will eventually be kicked to the wayside as everyone's phones start coming with GPS functionality within them. They're smart enough to realize that they need to stay relevant through software vs. hardware.
Very surprised Garmin isn't trying to jump in the same space.

...it feels right?
Yeah, it will be $100. Any less is a steal.Soybean said:I can't imagine it'd be $30. Map updates don't cost that little, let alone the entire software. I'm sure they make more than $30 profit on each of their navigator devices too, so even if the app was 100% profit they'd be insane to undercut their standalone products so substantially.
I'd love to be wrong, though.
Ya Beejive seems to have smoothed out a bit but it's still early though. I hope it doesn't get overloaded again during the prime time IMing hours. What's really missing for me from Beejive and Meebo is Skype support though. Tempted to check out IM+ cuz of that.ckohler said:Beejive gave me a coulple of issues at first (had to reinstall) but it seems to be working fine now.
The notifications are fast!
I'm still interested in what Meebo is coming out with if only because the interface they showed was cleaner.
Tobor said:Yeah, it will be $100. Any less is a steal.
Tom Tom map updates themselves are about $90ish bucks!Kung Fu Jedi said:Well, you're not paying for hardware at all, just maps, which obviously have a value to them as well, but you can go buy an actual dedicated Tom-Tom device for not a lot more than $100. I think it's suicide to charge $100.
Guess we'll have to wait and see.
lawblob said:Is anyone else's Yahoo email messed up since 3.0? I used to get push notifications instantly; now they are sporadic. Sometimes they are a few minutes late, sometimes hour late, sometimes no push at all. What gives? -_-

I'm hoping for lower, but $99 wouldn't surprise me.
I'd also pay for it.
Kung Fu Jedi said:But when you can get a dedicated unit for $110, does it really make sense to spend $100 on an iPhone App, and then add a cradle and so on?
xabre said:It does if you want everything in one unit and if the app has similar functionality to a standalone GPS.
It's all about having it on your phone, man.Kung Fu Jedi said:But when you can get a dedicated unit for $110, does it really make sense to spend $100 on an iPhone App, and then add a cradle and so on?
Here's an example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...-Froogle-_-GPS+Navigation-_-TomTom-_-58194065
Garmin already has a mobile version for Blackberry, and it works pretty well from what I've read (I'm waiting to try the trial version when I go on vacation).RubxQub said:Very surprised Garmin isn't trying to jump in the same space.
Eh...it's a perk for those who own a platform that is capable of running the software.Juice said:$30 is a pipe dream. Even if TomTom could somehow make a profit on that, it would completely cannabalize the sale of its functionally inferior standalone units.
Nah not gonna cancel my Genius Bar visit..Sean said:Yeah it's just an OS issue. I wouldn't bother with the genius bar appointment since that dude will probably just tell you the same thing.
This happened last year too btw - there was a ton of annoyances and quirks with the 2.0 update and it took Apple like two or three months (and several updates) to squash all the bugs. Just take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPhone_OS_version_history#2.x to see the type of stuff that was wrong. Major things like the keyboard hanging, apps crashing constantly, syncing was taking hours for some people, shitty 3G reception, etc. While the 3.0 update may have a few quirks it's really stable in comparison to what people went through last year :lol
