When I got my first iPod a couple years ago, I tried a couple different kinds of FM transmitters and came to the conclusion that they're pretty much universally awful. Experiences with others since then have only served to reinforce this. I ended up paying a couple hundred bucks for a Dension ice>Link head unit hookup and have been extremely happy with it. They don't make that specific model anymore, but I would buy another one of their products without any hesitation.

it must be a US / european thing cos i use a kingston FM transmitter here in aus with no problems at all. of course it's not as clear or punchy as using a cd, but i don't get any interference or distortion at all. not many radio stations around where i tune it in (104.6). i'd get an AUX input thing for the deck in my car, but i use my scoot now and don't drive enough to bother.

I had a kensington fm transmitter. was great except it didn't charge teh iPhone 3G (they changed some pins around).

Working fine over here. Is it crashing from the store?
Could be a result. I noticed that for some reason some of my album art seemed to be missing and it seems like the crashes are related to using the auto get function. I just ended up using Amazon and manually doing it but it was pretty weird.

Why does the webapp thread not allow me to reply? I get 500 errors trying to reply in that thread.

Anyway, why is my neogaf webapp icon darker than before? Is it changeable on the fly?

Anyone had problems with the 3gs headphone jack? Output is all over the place, volume going high/low just by slightly turning the jack, and some static too. It's not the headphones themselves, because I've tried 3 different pairs at this point.

There was a bug on the posting page. I fixed it.

As for the home screen icon, I made a new one. I guess it automatically updates on your home screen at some point. Nifty.

Sweet, thanks!
Yeah I figured it must've been a new one, because not only was it darker, but it was also smaller. And when I tried to make a new book mark, it had the new logo.

Maybe it updates when you open it? Either way, sweet, you are awesome with a captial 'o'.

Ok so i didnt know the headphone volume changer doubled as a microphone...this is awesome

Its not just a volume changer, but you can also skip tracks and go back a track :o (I know everyone probably already knows this, but it was a new revelation for me).

Really? I'm thinking of getting a 3GS, and the ability to skip tracks like that would be a big plus for me. I'd want to use it as an iPod, but I'm a bit wary of getting mugged, so don't want to whip it out everywhere if I can avoid it. I'd get a case too. Partly for protection, partly to obscure.

there appears to be a blemish on my phone screen. there is a moire effect 2/3 the way up from the bottom of the screen. From what I'm gathering online, it's caused by the several layers of the screen contacting each other? anyone have any experience with this and also, is this grounds for an exchange?

I'm having problems with my Dad's iPhone 3G. We purchased a turn by turn navigation app called "Mobile Maps", so he could use the iPhone GPS function, with the app to essentially turn the phone into Sat Nav.

He drives a 99 Audi A8, and while the software works perfectly outdoors, as soon as we get into the car the signal drops. No matter where on the dash you position it, no signal. Open the sunroof fully and presto, it works, but it's not a practical solution.

Is there a fix ? Otherwise we will have to ask for a refund I guess.

I'm planning on buying an Iphone 3GS. I got a question tho:

How is the battery life?

I read lots of horror stories on the internets about battery dying within a few hours etc.
This is how I use my current mobile with 3G:

- 1 hour of surfing/reading/rSSing a day on 3G
- listening to music for about 1/2 hours a day
- getting mail every 1 to 2 hours.
- Maybe using GPS for about 20min
- watching a few youtube vids

Can I make it trough the day with this? I don't care to recharge it every day, as long as it's not failing on me trough the day.

Does anyone know how to fix this? It's like StarDefense and DownToZero got it on!:lol

Edit: wow that image was huge... Going to go and resize it!
Edit 2: Much better!

Yup! Double click the centre to skip, triple click to go back a track. And press it once to pause/play. It's a huge plus for me as I constantly skip through tracks and hate having to whip out my iPhone every minute.

Yeah, you should be able to make it through the day easy with usage like that.

You use it to answer calls too. And on the 3gs, you use it to activate voice control I believe. ( and if not, why the hell not?)

Just tested it, you can indeed use it for voice control (press and hold). How would you answer calls?

If your phone is ringing, single click it. At least, that's how it works with the 3G headphones.

Strange problem.

I had the Facebook app installed. Today it just crashed as soon as I tried to open it. I rebooted...same thing. I then uninstalled, went to the App Store to re-download it. But the little install button is grayed out and says 'Installed' even though it's not. Syncing didn't hep either.

Any ideas?

yeah, i was looking into this and you're right. it's an oversight on apple's part that the address field that shows up when you tap a google map result is not copy-able.

HOWEVER, to save yourself some trouble for next time, I found a workaround (hopefully it's only temporary as Apple will possibly fix this issue).

after selecting the address pin you want in maps, switch from search to directions in the app.

now, the actual street address shows up in the text field on top (instead of search terms or store name). you CAN select that text and then copy it to the clipboard, then into a text.

(I also tried emailing the map location, but it doesn't produce a plain text output of the address - nuts)

Couldn't you have used Mapquest or another directions website and copied and pasted from there?
Thanks, that might be the best thing to do. The iPhone can share its gps data on Safari now right? Do you know how to give that info?

I think Aji's reader is fine for PDF books. Just use it in fullscreen landscape, zoom in to so that the margins are as small as possible, then lock the screen so it only scrolls vertically. Works like a charm.
I just discovered that tapping the edge of the screen causes an auto-jump . This is not a bad way to read at all

I've just recently got an iphone 3gs and one little thing that's annoying me is when ever I press the standby button on the top right of the phone the clicking noise kind of comes a little late if I leave the phone on for like 5 or so minutes, if I turn on the phone from standby and back off again straight away the click noise comes straight away when turned off. Is it supposed to be like this ?? Am I looking to much into this lol

Delete it from iTunes, not just the phone. It should still be listed in the applications page of iTunes. Or track down the folder and make sure you delete it. Then re-download it from iTunes.

Have same problem with any GPS device in my 350Z. It's because the window glass have some sort of metallic substance that blocks GPS signal. Options are have GPS device right next to window glass (might work if the GPS device has high sensitivity), external antennae (not possible on Iphone?) or get a new windshield glass that lets GPS signal pass through.

Mine clicks a split second afterward. Doesn't really matter. I find it annoying and just disable the clicking sound.

Yes.

Yes you are.

What's a good iphone 3Gs stationary speaker dock which I can listen to podcast when taking the shower, preferably you can charge the dock and remove the power plug?

Thanks.

i think you should think about just a shower radio, water will void your iphone warranty

I'll put it really high to avoid water or mist, just looking for something that's louder than the sound of water, and can be used without a power plug.

Whatever, I like to be thorough with my precious body. :lol

Can we get back to the dock question?

i REALLY don't think you should be keeping your iphone in the bathroom with all the steam from the shower. it'll fuck things up with your phone. just get a damn shower radio or sing to yourself during your 20 minute extended sessions.

that's long enough to do all of "scenes from an italian restaurant" AND "I would do anything for love" as n encore

Even if it doesn't mess up his phone, what is may very well do is change the color of the service strips inside the headphone port and dock port. When those change to pink, the warranty is over.

But I'm sure there's some sort of battery-powered speaker dock. I see a half dozen speaker docks every time I go to Best Buy.
