TomTom told us that its long-awaited iPhone navigation app and in-car mounting kit would be landing "this summer," and at least on our watch, summertime is quickly drawing to a close. If a pre-order listing over at Handtec is to be believed, it looks as if the outfit is exceedingly close to finally having both the software and hardware ready for shipping. The £113.85 ($194) asking price includes a suction mount for your iPhone as well as the mapping software, though there's no indication of exactly how much the app and hardware will run by themselves. Of course, until the iPhone supports multitasking, using it as a dedicated PND is still a risky move; one stray call during a pivotal moment in your travels and you can consider yourself lost. Oh, and then there's the fact that this thing has a TomTom logo on it -- if the iPhone app functions anything like the company's high-end GO 740 LIVE, we'd say you're better off asking Mr. Gas Station attendant (or buying a different brand).
The Black Brad Pitt said:Ok so i just went for my first run with my iphone and the nike+ and after about a 25min run i wake up my ipod and hit the end workout button.
Then nothing.
It went straight back to the main screen. No stats, no nothing. To my ipod that run never existed. Whats going on?
To check the thing wasnt messed up i pressed start workout again, had the music start up and then i pressed end workout. It read out the stats for all 3 seconds of it, so im not sure what the hell happened.
Disappointed as it was my first run and i was eager to see my results!

Holy shit. You might as well buy a TomTom GPS unit at that price.micromagic said:Looks like the TomTom pricing has been set. Way too much imo unless the app by itself is considerably cheaper.

The same thing happened to me on my first run. The problem for me was that I started the workout through the lockscreen and for some reason (i have LockInfo installed so maybe that's why) when I tried to start or resume the workout through the lockscreen, it wouldn't register any distance. Going into the Nike+iPod app and starting/resuming it that way worked the way it's supposed to, though. The Black Brad Pitt said:Ok so i just went for my first run with my iphone and the nike+ and after about a 25min run i wake up my ipod and hit the end workout button.

do you have a working toggle for push?DMeisterJ said:You have to download that from Cydia.
I think it's in SBSettings add-ons... If not, just type Rotation or Accelerometer into search and the add-on should appear.
So useful! Surfing in bed is fun now.

Buy Navigon with the belkin stand for the car for less then that price.dallow_bg said:PLEASE be cheaper in US.
I had expected $150 at MOST for the combo and that's as much as I'd pay.

Why do people say surfing is bad in bed without this? I surf in bed sideways all the time. Never been jailborked.DMeisterJ said:You have to download that from Cydia.

Any gps map would have to have points of interest built in. The whole point is that it has to be useable outside of any cell signal.lawblob said:Wow at that TomTom pricing. -_-
I just went on a trip to the Adirondacks, and even over the barely-there Edge network out in the wilderness, the Google Map App was good enough to get me there and back. TomTom would need to be much cheaper to make it worth it, IMO.
You've never experienced unintended rotation while surfing in bed?mrkgoo said:Why do people say surfing is bad in bed without this? I surf in bed sideways all the time. Never been jailborked.
That would sound incredibly awkward to those not familiar with the topic at hand :lolCharred Greyface said:You've never experienced unintended rotation while surfing in bed?

scorcho said:wow @ that TomTom pricing. considering its utility is completely gone once you take a phone call i would've thought they'd price it less than their stand-alone units.

Is a jailbroken iPhone able to sync/backup with iTunes without any problems? Are there really any issues if I just want to jailbreak it to use it on another network?

O2’s exclusivity deal for the iPhone in the U.K. is set to expire on October 9th, according to a new report. Claiming to have seen “documentation” regarding the deal, Mobile Entertainment reports that although the exclusivity agreement runs out in 2009, the carrier has the rights to sell the iPhone until 2012. In addition, the report sites unnamed sources that say the carrier may also retain sole rights to the recently launched iPhone 3GS. In recent weeks, rival carriers Orange and T-Mobile have reportedly been in talks to offer the iPhone 3G in the U.K.; T-Mobile also recently began offering iPhone 3G units imported from other countries where the phone is offered unlocked to disgruntled, high-paying customers threatening to leave the company. O2 has been the exclusive carrier of the iPhone in the U.K. since its launch in the country on November 9, 2007.
Yeah I guess there's no easy way to keep it vertical while lying sideways, though you can keep it horizontal.dallow_bg said:I don't like to surf sideways for the most part.
I lie in bed on my side, and want to keep it vertical.
What deal would you be breaking?mrkgoo said:Yeah I guess there's no easy way to keep it vertical while lying sideways, though you can keep it horizontal.
I guess it's just not a deal breaker for me, despite liking vertical more.
Jailbreaking, I guess.dallow_bg said:What deal would you be breaking?

FWIW, this is not an issue for me either.jonnybryce said::lol Oh please.
Lay down, attempt to read long article in portrait mode. If you're laying down sideways as many do iPhone cannot remain in portrait mode while being held in what it perceives to be horizontal (when it's actually vertical in my eyesight) so it'll keep switching to horizontal mode unless you find the exact tripping angle and hold it awkwardly before there. I just want it to be portrait sometimes.
crisdecuba said:FWIW, this is not an issue for me either.
jonnybryce said:Do you every lay sideways with your head on your pillow wanting to read in portrait though? I don't get how it's possible for anyone to say they do this, the phone has to be held sideways which triggers the reorientation. I can lay in other ways, but certain ways the accelerometer does get in the way.

Yeah, it's not critical, but I'm glad a little tweak can fix that up for me.mrkgoo said:Yes, it does happen, but it's not critical. I just use it in the horizontal mode then. It's no big deal. If it IS critical, then I just sit up.
