That said, why doesn't she just pull out the sim-card at that point? Can the iPohne work without a sim?

I fail at quoting.
mrkgoo said:I know what you mean. In a way, the iPhone has SAVED me money. Why? I can NEVER look at another iPod or cellphone again. It's like the iPhone has single-handedly killed my desire to EVER buy either device again. I nearly don't bother looking.
Obviously things like the Zune HD are very intriguing, with great hardware, great music pass, and potentially great software too...but really, will I forego the iPhone for it? I don't think I'd carry around an iPhone AND a Zune HD. (of course it's moot since Zune doesn't exist outside of US, and it won't sync with macs anyway).

VanMardigan said:I don't see any phone or device on the market right now that remotely interests me either, but a ZunePhone would fit the bill if it ever came out. Obviously, the games that I've bought are a big deterrent, but my wife would likely still have her iPhone. Some of the Apple limitations still annoy me, but there's no guarantee that the hypothetical ZunePhone would fix the issues I have like the lack of multitasking, low battery life, closed system, one computer sync, and iTunes. iTunes plain old sucks, and I have a badass computer. It runs slow, looks ugly as a media player, and of course abides by the limitations of library sharing and syncing. I prefer the Zune software.

This includes my time at work (8 to 9 hours) with no wifi in site, and my time at home with wifi.

I quite like zooming into picture panels and checking out the art a lot closer as well though, I read stuff like Transmetropolitan where there's tonnes of picture detail, can this reader zoom into panels as well as doing its fancy text thing?

Fusebox said:Well if I leave the house at 10am, have music on all day, hit the occasional web-page, open the occasional app and take a few phone calls then I get home at 5pm on about 15% battery.
'High use' for 12 hours is something my 3GS won't do.
mrkgoo said:On that note, are push notifications part of 'data'? As in, do I need a data plan to use push?
I can't remember if I had data or not while I was experimenting with push. If it doesn't, what network does it use? SMS?
It'll be a great day when I don't need to manage the battery life on this wonderful thing.Fusebox said:Well if I leave the house at 10am, have music on all day, hit the occasional web-page, open the occasional app and take a few phone calls then I get home at 5pm on about 15% battery.

What'll happen when the new video conferencing iPhone 4G OLED comes out next year? Will you feel the itch even though you're still under contract and might have to drop $500+?Alfarif said:Before the iPhone, I looked at a ton of different phones and small handheld electronics. After the iPhone, I'm exactly like you... I look at them, but I have zero interest in them. I don't know how a device could singlehandedly do that. Even when I got my DS, I still checked out the PSP (and still need to get one). But when my friends who don't have iPhones talk about the latest tech gear in the phone/handheld market, I'm kind of "meh, it's not the iPhone." It could have loads of "ZOMGZ" features, but the interface is clunky as hell, the touch screen feels like it fell out of 2002 or 2003, there aren't any apps you would care about buying, and it's casing is ugly as sin. It really has an all-in-one package that I love.
Y2Kev said:So I was thinking...yeah, a blackberry style LED is never going to happen because that's not Apple's MO, but what about a pulsing white light LED like on the Macs for a future iphone revision? That seems suitably apple, wouldn't be gaudy or distracting, and would really make sense since we don't really have a good notification "dock" or anything.
The iPhone battery sucks ass if you are using 3G. But this is true of every device that uses 3G as far as I know. You probably get closed to 2x the battery life if you go down to Edge.Fusebox said:Well if I leave the house at 10am, have music on all day, hit the occasional web-page, open the occasional app and take a few phone calls then I get home at 5pm on about 15% battery.

It's one of the best for 3G battery life. The Android G1's battery life is hilarious in comparison.bionic77 said:The iPhone battery sucks ass if you are using 3G. But this is true of every device that uses 3G as far as I know.

Any idea on how to fix?

This will only be solved with a better battery or more efficient 3G chipset.

What do you mean? It already shows the current date, but you want it next to the clock to be seen all the time is that it?Worm_Buffet said:Can you get the calendar icon on the iPhone in the background to show the current date?
I never turn off 3G either but that is really the only way to significantly extend the battery life.DaCocoBrova said:I never turn off 3G. Mainly because I hate that 'tick, tick, tidididididick' sound in the car when a call comes through, or I receive a text via Edge.

The problem is people either had shitty dumbphones before or phones they didn't actually use, so the iPhone's battery life is a new world for them.

What's the best multi-type IM applications? I currently use Trillian on my PCs, but there's no iPhone version. Or is it just better to get the AIM and YIM apps?
I was browsing the App Store and I did see this (along with the hefty price tag). Good to know it's worth it though. Thanks!Costanza said:BeejiveIM. It's $10 but so worth it.
