Wow! App Store is going to rock!

I just hope it's not too long before we get this update.

No shit. This is too friggin' awesome. Maybe it'll be next Tuesday's thing (since Apple's been announcing/releasing something every week since the beginning of the year).

EDIT: NO!!! JUNE??!?!?!

Nice Apple version of Installer.app ;)

Makes you wonder how much of Apple's hand was forced by the hacker community, or they were atleast made aware of the demand, interest in iPhone as a proper development platform, the things that people wanted to see on it, and how they wanted the apps delivered.

Because this has come a long way since the original vision of web apps. Thank God :)

"The iPod Touch is getting the same update, but there will be a nominal charge, due to accounting purposes."

They're going to charge me for the privilege of downloading applications that I'm going to have to pay for?

proper banking software... please dear god!!

EDIT: Nope of course not. Still going to have to run quickbooks through bootcamp...

100 Million dollars in the iFund for iPhone developers. This totally kicks the crap out of the Google Android 10M dollar fund for apps. (I believe it is 10m.)

I can now get an iPhone now that it will support exchange in the next update.

How fast can you guys type out an email on your iPhones? I imagine it has to be slower than a real qwerty keyboard, but I imagine it isn't that far behind. Or is it?

It's fast enough to do an email as you would on a computer, without trying to shorten or condense it.

By now, and granted I've had one since Day 1, I'm probably faster than I was on a QWERTY because I've come to trust their prediction software so much. It's actually really great. And if I'm not faster, I'm at least as fast.

Imagine about half the speed of what you are used to on a keyboard.

My only worry here is that even free apps get distributed over Itunes, which probably means we can forget about stuff like SCUMMVM (how would you transfer data files anyways) or emulators of any kind..

Still sucks that I have to fork out money for the upgrade but I will do it. I want me some apps.

I want to see Adium and a decent PDF viewer.

Awesome. Assuming that the exchange support works well I am getting an iPhone immediately after this update goes into effect.

Hopefully by that time 3G will be an added bonus. :D

From the looks of the demo today, I'd say it's going to work great. And since we have to wait for June to get iPhone OS 2.0, I won't be shocked if iPhone Hardware 2.0 doesn't drop at the same time.

Q: "How likely will there be a VoIP?"

A: "We will only limit over cellular -- if you want to dev them for WiFi, that's fine."

RAWK!!!

The firmware update that adds app support will still be Jailbroken, and things developed with the SDK will still be able to be transferred directly to the phone's filesystem, bypassing iTunes.

The hacking community will still use the SDK and gain a much better understanding of the phone in the process. The emulators, which were sort of stuck in a rutt performance-wise, will come on in leaps and bounds. And hopefully now the SDK is in more people's hands, we will be getting an unofficial taste of that a lot sooner than June ...

Went and bought one off of the Apple Store online. How long will it take to get to me? They say 5 days but that seems like a long time.

I need to get an iPhone. I am going to have the lie, cheat and steal my way out of my Sprint contract.

Call me stoopid but I broke my contract with them and have not regretted it one time.

I broke out of my T-Mobile contract and haven't regretted it once either. iPhone is the best gadget I've ever owned, and it's about to get 1000% better.

I can't make more emphasis.

After the stuff we saw today in the app demos, I have no doubt that we'll get Mobile Adium. None what's so ever.

Everything they showed today was pure awesome, except the release date.

Did you get the 8gb or the 16gb?

I'm hoping that June might also see another hardware revision, maybe 32gb? And maybe even 3G? Dare we dream?

Also judging from what we saw today, iPhone and Touch become viable portable gaming systems come June as well. I was very impressed with the game stuff they showed.

All true, and frankly I don't even care about emulators other than SCUMMVM on ipohone/touch. The things is, I didn't jailbreak my touch yet, and the process is becoming more and more convoluted to the point that I'm getting a bit scared away from even trying to do it.
