Really? The only follow-up I've seen to it was that the developer said it wasn't a real app, just a tech demo, and that he'd be interested in working with other devs to use the tech somehow.

How was it a hoax?

The iHologram app was not real. It was an illustration of an idea I had which I believe could work with the technology (combining anamorphosis and motion sensing). Unfortunately I’m just an ideas person, and I can show how things should look, but I’m no hardcore programmer.

I’d be happy to collaborate with a developer or studio who want’s to make it happen, I’m bursting with ideas for the interactive world, but right now all my attention is on filmmaking.

We just interpreted the same interview differently. It's not real or a tech demo, that was just a movie on a phone. (Man, I love that Google Reader has a Search capability)

Um, my iphone just turned off and wont turn back on. And before you ask, yes it was fully charge, I just took it off the cord about 20 minutes ago.

edit: Nevermind I finally got it turn back on. Has this happen to anybody else? (btw it wouldn't turn back on for 10 minutes.)

Was it stuck on the apple logo, or was it just not coming on at all?

It wasnt coming up. I've had it restart a couple of times before (with the apple logo) but I never had it shut off completely.

Ahh... I see. I was under the impression it was a demo app, and didn't realize it was a movie. Not sure I'd call it a hoax, because the effect is very cool and real, there just isn't anything being done with it just yet. But yeah, I definitely interpreted what he said a bit differently.

the battery life on the 3g iphone is f'n atrocious, I'm going to be returning it today. I'm going to have to just deal with the slow speeds of the OG iPhone, cause as of right now the 3g Is a POS.

Why not just turn of 3G in your iPhone?

I bought it or 3g, I'm not going to turn it off. Besides I've only been on wifi today for an hour and a half and the phone is nearly dead (I was playing music at the same time), my 2g iPhone would still have more than half ts battery life left. I'll pick up a 3g phone when the battery life issues are worked out.

I would do a restore and if the problem persists take it to an Apple store.

Exactly. This is nothing new. Go look at Howard Forums, there are threads for practically every 3G phone ever released explaining how to disable 3G to preserve battery life.

3G is a battery killer, full stop.

Isn't GPS independent of 3G? What do they have to do with one another?

Yep! Which is why I continually said that I didn't need GPS at the expense of battery life when everyone was railing against the iPhone for not having last year. Apple listened, added it in, and now the battery life complaints have gone way up.

Well, since the iPhones have now gone on sale for AT&T Premiere business accounts online, I went ahead and ordered one to replace my first-gen. Ships in about a week it said.

Got an 8GB black.
After the discount on the voice and the data plan it comes out to about what I'm paying now anyway with T-Mobile, so I'm porting my number.

Can't wait!
Also, I can't believe the first gen 8GB phones are selling for $300+.
I'll actually make a profit. :)

Yeah, just goes to show you that you can't make whiners happy, doesn't it? All the people asking for 3G should have anticipated quick battery death, like every other 3G phone in the known universe.

Jeff-DSA said:
Doesn't that defeat the purpose of having a 3G iPhone?

There's also the considerable amount of people paying for a 3G iPhone plan when there isn't 3G service in their area. Why let 3G slaughter your battery if there isn't any service?

Managed to fight $25 out of an AT&T rep as a credit for the horrible data network in NYC thus far.

The guy was a total douchebag, he even went as far as to say that $30 a month for data isn't a lot, so I shouldn't expect it to work all the time.

Fuck AT&T, I miss Verizon's network.

biggkidd32 said:
I'm in NYC too. The 3G network is unusable.

And yet the rep claims "I haven't had any other complaints."

Everyone here in NYC, call 611 and complain about the data network and wrestle money out of them.

Le sigh. My orginal iphones battery has hit the shit. It needs a recharge every day now. I just bought a extra years warrenty (i have replaced my headphones for free 4 times now so its worth it), but does anyone know how much it would cost to replace the battery with apple while under warrenty?

Probably nothing. Go to the store or call them and ask. It won't hurt you any more than asking here, and they'll actually have an answer.

If your battery hasn't caught on fire or literally won't hold a charge for more than a few minutes, I'd bet they're not doing free battery replacements.

You may well have to pay even if the phone is under Apple Care. This is typically how it is with Apple's notebooks nowadays, unless it's coincidentally covered by a soft-recall

Or you can figure out how to install OS X on to your pc...

Ack! Debugging OSX86 on a PC is a challenge enough, I can only imagine trying to find workarounds to all of the underpinnings of the mobile frameworks and emulator kexts.

Think you might have a defective battery?

3 hrs using wi-fi and playing music sounds more normal...

My original iPhone's home button broke and my iPhone was out of warranty (no applecare!) and the Genius just took one look at it and replaced it. Just make an appointment at the Apple Store

Thanks for your help on the earlier questions guys this thread has been a great help.

Got 4.5 hours of usage yesterday including calls, 2g and 3g surfing, wifi some music etc.

I had to return it and get another today because of a "dead pixel" (really dust sandwiched between the glass and the LCD ewww). Anyway, my new question...

I am resyncing my new phone, and I know the phone compresses imported pictures (which I should be able to turn off, but I digress). Will it compress properly sized iphone BGs? I downloaded a bunch from sciphone and I am wondering if they are going to compress or not since they are in the proper resolution.

Thanks in advance

This is part truth, but here's the most precise answer... Apple does free replacements if the device is still within its one-year warranty. As batteries are deemed "consumable parts" by Apple, they won't swap them out of warranty without it being caused by a known mistake on their part or a problem with the battery as it was manufactured (see: battery recall on batteries with lithium-ion cells made by Sony that were over-heating).

So those of you with iPhones... what exactly would you be wanting if say someone was going to develop a multitouch application? IE what is the biggest hole that needs filling?

I got my iPhone on Sunday and now while nitpicking over dust installing the antiglare film I spotted a stuck pix. I was going mad trying to fix it. Now I have to wait until Saturday for a "genius" appointment. It's not the end of the world assuming they swap it out. I was psyched to get it all cased up.

I'd kill for a transit app that used google maps to tell you exactly when to get off for the Greater Vancouver Region. Or hell, just a regular transit app that does what tranlink's trip planner does. For some reason TransLink's trip planner doesn't work on Safari and the Maps application can't do transit directions =( That or I haven't been able to figure it out.

I took mine in for a "stuck pixel" today (was really dirt between the glass and LCD). It took me almost an hour for my appointment, even though I scheduled it in advanc, but once they got to me I had a new iphone in less than 5 minutes.

They were really nice about it. I even bought the anti glare film while I was waiting for the guy to activate it. not sure if I like the texture on it yet.

I just ordered these headphones does anybody else have them? I would appreciate your take

looks like a nice balance between quality and cost. Was going to get vmoda vibe duos but I kept reading bad reviews about them.

LAST: do they make a 3.5mm stereo cable that has the inline track skip/pause buttons on them? I want one for my car because I have line in and I don't want to unlock the screen and look for the skip arrow to skip tracks.

Well dude, if I can ever wrestle with this learning Objective-C stuff... well, let's just say you read my mind.

Not that I've seen, but I'll post if I find one. I'm still using my 60 GB generation 5 iPod in the car because I can back/pause/next without looking at it, unlike the iPhone. They could have at least let the radio remote work with it, but no. >___<

Aside from downloading wallpapers directly from sciphone’s mobile site, I haven’t added any photos to my phone. But the difference in sharpness and overall quality between viewing the wallpapers on the site and when they’re downloaded to the phone is pretty noticeable. It really just makes me want to stick to Apple’s stock wallpapers, since they’re so much more crisp and nice-looking.

Just joined the family. Just received my white iPhone. Fun thing to play with, whenever it's possible to play with though. Copying about 11GB of music takes AGES. Longer than copying 30GB to my iPod Colour 60GB

I am starting to wonder if one of those cheap mic dongles with the click switch plugged into a 3.5mm stereo cable would work just fine. Maybe I will DIY splice one so I don't have a huge frakencable.

Or I could just keep my 1G nano in the car =/

Maybe I will design and sell one. I know some one who does sales for an electronics manufacturer :lol

Does anyone know how to turn off automatic email checking? I set fetch to manual, but the mail app still updates constantly. I set push to on.

ARGH, iPhone troubles..... It seems my internet isn't working on the celluar network. On Wi-fi it works great but when I go online under my provider it loads, and then stops. I cleared the cache, history and cookies and still does not work. I have to restart the whole phone just to get it to work.

Does anyone have this problem?

By setting push to on you're telling the phone to push emails through, set it to off.
