Really? Everytime I try to connect over 3G, it keeps telling me Connection could not be established(internet connection error). Am I doing something wrong?
And as for parlingo, do you not need a seperate parlingo account ?
Try to uninstall/reinstall directly on the iPhone, and not through iTunes. Yeah you need a separate parlingo account.

Yeah, just tried the whole uninstall/install, and nothing improved. Still gives me the connection failed / check internet connection error.

There's something intriguing me on my iPhone : I have an icon in the upper-right corner, right next to battery indicator. It looks like a phone and a keyboard under it. I have no idea what it is. It's probably nothing important but anyone knows ?

Hey, I just got a iPhone on friday. I went through those top 25/50 lists on the app store but what are some of the better I guess less popular apps out there that you guys like?

You have TTY turned on.

Maybe you have to first connect through wifi, and then you would be able to connect through 3G?

That is incorrect, you are the only person that needs to be signed into AIM.

So if I message someone with aim on my iphone and the other person doesn't have aim on, will it show there's an im waiting for them, or would they have to turn on aim to see it?

It shows up as a regular text message for them.

They get a regular text message on their phone of whatever you wrote.

I just tried to update my phone and it says "The iphone "iphone" could not be updated. An unknown error has occured (2002)" wtf...........now I have to restore it!!!!!!!!!

Ever since the new iPhone update, I can't seem to get calls to go through while it is connected to wifi, anyone else having this problem?

I'd have to double check but I'm pretty sure I forgot to turn WI-FI off and I didn't have any issues.

is there a way to transfer contacts from one back up to another? 2.1 semi-bricked my phone in that it would hang at the apple screen and vibrate every 10 seconds. every time i restored and used a back up, it would brick it again. setting it up as a new phone saved it but i now have no contacts. :[

Aren't your contacts still in your address book? Simply tell iTunes to resync from there.

I have a question:

I'm on the mobileme trial. I'm not planning on keeping it after it expires. But Ive been using it to sync my contacts/calendar, and it came in very hand after I restored my phone to 2.1.
I tried shutting it off on the phone now, and the message said that all my contacts would be deleted. WTF? So it removed all the synced data if I cancel?? Can't I keep the contacts on my phone?

Because it syncs directly with the MobileMe server, yes, it will delete your contacts from the phone, but they will be retained on your computer that has been syncing with MobileMe, so it's just a matter of syncing them back up via your computer.

So you say with AIM I can send a txtmessage for free so someone else's phone who doesn't have AIM installed?

Cause I'm currently paying about $3 sending one sms message to my asian gf. So is AIM txting to normal cellphone for free a possibility? No, right?

arab said:
I don't use a contacts or calendar program so it synced with nothing but iTunes
.... why wouldn't you? It's not like you have to actively use the program, just use it as a place to keep another copy of your data. I barely use Address Book on my Mac, but I still sync my data with it so I have all my contact data in more than one place should something disastrous happen. Considering how bloody easy it is, I don't understand why someone wouldn't do this.

It is free for you, but it counts as txt for the person you are sending it to.

Yes. It works. And the receiver doesn't need to even have an AIM account. Think of it this way, AIM, or what ever IM program you use, is an SMS portal.

This is so backwards, I think I've had more crashes since 2.1 than before. At least contacts list doesn't lag.

For Air Sharing, it's only local over wifi right? You can't use it as some sort of online storage space using 3G?

Oh yeah is there any kind of caps lock function (as opposed to the one letter shift key), or is this like asking for cut and paste? :P

In settings>general>keyboard>enable caps lock. When you want to enable it double tap shift.

You can also hold it and press the other keys you want. Like a real shift keys I guess.

So after 2.1, I've noticed that my battery life has gotten shittier. Today broke the final straw. Last night, I went to sleep at 2 with approx 80% battery. I wake up now with 10%. What happened?

Do you have push, location, wi-fi, 3G or that stuff on? My battery life with 2.1 is good. I put it on the charger Sat night and used it during the day on Sunday, left it off the charger Sunday night, and I still have approx. 50% left. My usage includes SMS and phone calls with and without speakerphone.

Does the AIM SMS thing work outside of the US?

Haven't tried it, but it should work. Just use the country code at the start of the phone number.

I've had issues like this lately too and over the weekend I decided to try to track down what is going on. Turns out, in my case, it was one of my e-mail addresses that gets a lot of mail sent to it. I disabled that address, and my battery life has been great since then. In this case, much of the e-mail is junk, so I'm probably going to leave it disabled for now.

can you recommend me one then? i don't want to use outlook.

Just use Outlook. Before I switched to Mac that's what I was using, and I hate Outlook with a passion. I don't think I ever had to open Outlook, it was just a repository for contacts.

So...has anyone seen battery life improvements so far with the 3G model?
Can't speak for anyone else, but I have seen an improvement. Charged my phone Saturday night, logged in about 1 hour 45 minutes of usage Sunday (some calls, emails, and mostly checking ESPN during the games). Woke up today and I still have 70-80% batter remaining.

Prior to 2.1 it was pretty much impossible for me to get 2 days of battery life on the phone.

I probably need further usage to tell, but so far, it seems as if I'm getting better battery life too.

No Push. WiFi and 3G is on. However, before 2.1, even with that stuff on, I get a full day of idle time. Right now, I get at most 6 hours.

What's location. I highly doubt that's on either.

Spore on iPhone is LOVELY!

Great little game, very suited to being portable and a good timewaster. Nice use of the iPhones features as well, being able to use your media as textures and even use the camera to take one on the spot.

Good job EA!
(still feels weird saying that ;)

mine's definitely better - i commented in the first few days i owned one that the batt life was 'appalling' (especially when compared with the first gen iphone) - not so bad now :P

I just looked at the app store on my phone and it's showing me 3 very old app updates that I installed long ago. It even says "installed" when I click on the update to see what it does.

Now they have the number mark on my home screen.

This ever randomly happen and does it go away on its own?
I get OCD when I see those red bubbles. :)

So if I text someone with AIM, they will recieve it as an sms and won't have to pay. But what if I send a message to someone in Asia (I live in Europe)?

Oh, and what is the AIM named on iPhone?

I can't say it is conclusive because the update was just Friday, but I noticed that I have been getting better signals as well. Previously I was getting 2-3 bars in the basement of my office and now I was getting a full 5 bars. Similarly I noticed I was getting MUCH better 3G reception.

On the flipside, I still get a lot of keyboard input lag on websites. Contacts are fine though.

The person you are txting is just receiving a regular txt message, so standard charges apply to them, but it is free for you the sender. It's called AIM.
