When Apple's POS starts working as advertised. :|

I'll have to go to the shitty Apple store and have them look at this fucking thing.

The iPhone is kind of like windows 95, it needs a restart every so often :lol

Safari for OSX crashes a lot to begin with. It's not surprising that mobile safari has trouble on gaf. Replying to threads is a pain because the entire 50 posts are loaded as well, including animated gifs and large images. A textarea in a form + 50 posts = death for safari mobile.

Que? I can't remember my last crash.

Are you guys using the GAF web app? I haven't had a single problem when using that, except when I went into the Star Trek gif thread. Big mistake.

The Anti-Glare Screen Protector is awesome. People who see mine are more impressed by it than the phone. First reaction is usually "hey, I didn't know the screen was matte"
I got an anti-glare protector on mine, and I hate it. I prefer the regular clear ones, even if the glare is bad sometimes. It's not such a big deal that I'd sacrifice the image quality, b/c these matter protectors are garbage. I just ordered two more switcheasy color skins to swap around (got the green one and ordered the orange and brown ones). The screen protectors that come with those are perfect. No distortion or sensitivity lost.

I'll say one thing about my anti-glare protector; it is hella tough. I have no fear of the screen getting damaged with this thing on it. PEACE.

I am sorry if this has been covered beofore but I am asking this for a friend of mine. He has the 2g Iphone which was unlocked/jailbroke using ziphone on the 1.1.4 firmware. A couple of days ago he accidently upgraded the phone to 2.1 using itunes. Now is there anyway for him to unlock it so he can use the phone or is he stuck? Thanks in advance.

I think I found a "bug" that I sort of like. I am not a bluetooth headset kind of guy. hated every time I have tried one. So in the car I was thinking of getting a bluetooth speaker phone since I play music through the aux jack on my car, and can't hear the iphones speaker over road noise sometimes. calls are not played through speakers when stereo headphones with out a mic are plugged in, UNLESS you are already playing music through the stereo cable and turn on speaker after you answer the call.

So if you use a stereo cable to plug into your car's aux connection then answer the phone while music is playing and turn on speaker you will be able to hear the call over the speakers and use the phones speaker mic to talk back, no feedback loop problems either as far as I could tell and I was listening to the call at a reasonable volume. I could not repeat the process by calling out before music was being played even though it was set up the same way.

Why are you putting log folder in quotes?
Because he wanted to? OMG I did it too... but "why"?

I just got the Air Share PDF viewer/reader up and working and I am wondering:

Does, once the file transfer is complete to the Public Folder, it store them locally on my phone or does it keep them on the net?

Thanks
There is no 'file cloud' on the net where you are saving these files.
They're only on your computer and the iPhone.

EDIT: LOL, I put "file cloud" in quotes.
Don't hurt me Liu Kang!

So I typed up all of my contacts in Address Book... and only some of them sync? I did it in waves and none of the new ones are showing up. What is something that could prevent them from going in?

If anyone is looking for a VNC client, Jaadu is on sale for $4.99 (down from $24.99) right now. The author says you'll have to pay the difference for updates though.

You asked iPhone to only sync a specific group of contacts and the new ones you added aren't in that group? That's the most common issue. You need to tell us a bit more about your address book setup, such as whether or not you have MobileMe or anything of the sort.

The hell? I have contacts in the Address Book. No groups, no MobileMe.

Funny enough, creating a group and then forcing that to sync did it.
Pretty stupid.

Hmmm... might be something screwed up with your syncing. Usually a reset of your syncing history in iSync corrects any sort of problems like that, or asking it to outright replace contacts with what's on your computer, though you might lose custom fullscreen photos for contacts doing that (I REALLY wish Apple would address that and have the option of having the fullscreen photos saved to the contact data)

posted this with iPhone 2.1 and no problems. Everything was smooth, stop complaining :D
That's because what you did was short. If it's long enough that you write more than one sentence when the screen scrolls to the right hand side, it'll slow to a crawl and crash.

Is there anyway to do an 'On-The-Go' Playlist (think that's what it used to be called) on the iPhone?

On my old 3rd gen iPod, you used to have to just hover over a song, artist or album, hold the select button and it'd flash and be added to the playlist. It was a quick way of making a playlist.

Tap on Playlists on the black nav bar on the bottom of the screen. The On-The-Go playlist is the second option, under the new Genius playlist (first item if you're not on firmware 2.1).

So there's no way of doing it while just browsing?

iTunes/iPhone have been acting pretty weird lately.

- My iphone won't update apps.
- It appears that iTunes has the updates but won't push them down even though it's saying they have been.
- I've been having some contacts issues since I last restored my iPhone... A bunch of duplicate...

When the fuck is push gmail coming? And proper turn by turn GPS? When's the next update anyway?

As far as turn by turn GPS, the necessary updates for it were supposedly in 2.1. It is going to take an application to come out to take advantage of it though. That is the way I understand it anyway.

Push G-mail would be up to Google, not Apple. Push technology is in, and working. The hooks for GPS were suppose to be in 2.1, but haven't heard if they made it or not. 2.1 was mostly about bug fixing and stability, which is why the server push technology was probably dropped for apps like IM.

It's odd that people are having such different experiences with Safari. I honestly can't remember the last time it crashed on me, and I've been responding to posts on GAF with it without problems as well. Last night I even opened the "World's Greatest Stadiums" thread, and then thought: "Uh-oh! That might have been a mistake!" but despite the fact that it was slow loading (I was on Edge), it came up just fine and didn't crash at all.

I'm also laughing at the person who says that Safari on Mac crashes a lot. I have two Mac's at home and work on another at the office, and it's probably been months since I've seen a crash on those three machines combined.

I thought everything Push went through Apple's infrastructure? If so, that can hardly be free or freely available for e-mail providers?

Safari crashes far less on me on 2.1.
But I still get the odd crash here and there.

I'm no longer as frustrated with it was I was though. Much improved for me at least.

It also has to do with the length of the page. Try setting the number of posts per thread down to 25. That might help. But yeah I typed this on the iPhone and it slows to a crawl when you move the screen to the right. But it hasn't crashed, though I expect it to before I'm done! Nope it's fine.

Edit: oh never mind you can't change the posts per page to 25 on gaf. Strange.

About safari on mac crashing. I know I used to get beachballs of death fairly often on tiger but on leopard with safari 3 I can't recall whether I've had any problems recently. I may be wrong then.

Push e-mail has to come from the e-mail provider's server. The new push technology for apps, which is different, will go through Apple servers as I understand it, and that tech isn't activated yet.

Man battery life in the iPhone sucks ass when you use 3rd party apps.

I was surfing the NY Times app for like 45 minutes today and it took away 25% of my battery. Is this something that can be addressed in an update or must 3rd party developers get their shit together?

Today Apple announced the Apple Ultracompact USB Power Adapter Exchange program.

Apple has determined that under certain conditions the new ultracompact Apple USB power adapter's metal prongs can break off and remain in a power outlet, creating a risk of electric shock. We have received reports of detached blades involving a very small percentage of the adapters sold, but no injuries have been reported.

The ultracompact USB power adapters were supplied with every iPhone 3G sold in the following countries, and may also have been purchased separately as an accessory:

-US
-Japan
-Canada
-Mexico
-Several Latin American countries (click here for a detailed list of countries)

Note: Apple USB power adapters supplied with original iPhones or supplied with iPhone 3G units sold in other countries are not affected.

Customer safety is always Apple's top priority, and therefore we have voluntarily decided to exchange every ultracompact power adapter for a new, redesigned adapter, free of charge.

Users with ultracompact power adapters should immediately stop using them until they exchange them for a new, redesigned ultracompact adapter.

In the meantime, they should charge their iPhone 3G by connecting it to their computer with the USB cable that came with their iPhone or by using a standard-sized Apple USB Power Adapter (with fold up prongs) or with a third party adapter designed to work with the iPhone, such as a car charger.

Just get a free one. Mocha VNC Lite is free, and I've been using it since it came out. Works great.

When was the last time Apple made a plug that wasn't eventually recalled?

The only one I can think of is the white one that plugs into the pizza-box iMac.

I'm here to complain about the Camera app. It still takes north of 7 seconds to open the first time, and at least 3 seconds on subsequent times. It was never like this pre-2.0 but it looks like Apple doesn't care about the camera or something.

Why does it take so long to load the camera?? What if I wanted to take a picture of a UFO? It'd be long gone by the time the camera app is fully loaded! :S

Sometimes it inexplicably freezes for 3 seconds after you take the shot too.

You're right, they don't care about the camera. It' only there because they didn't want to be the first $600 phone without a camera on it.

:lol

Obviously the camera app needs some work, they'll get to it. App and OS stability are clearly the priority right now.

Well, I ran the GUI Quickpwn for 2.1 on my 3G.
Scared me! Seems to get a lot of people stuck on the boot screen after the process is done.

I was told to have iTunes open before opening quickpwn, so I did that and same result, stuck at boot screen.

Someone said to just let it go like that, so I did, and after about 20 minutes, it went to my lock screen!
I love not having to do a restore to get it jailbroken.

Latest firmware worked a treat on my iPhone.

Keypad response is instant and smooth now. Almost makes texting a pleasurable experience.

Anyone's phone not backup when you sync it?

It never makes a back up for me now....... going on a few weeks...
I want a back up!

EDIT: I reset the sync history under 'preferences' and that did the trick.
Oh the things I could have saved........

whats the name of the free ringer creation program for the iPhone? I know it's been mentioned before in thread, but I can't seem to track it down.

I think it might be the post page which has the "Topic Review" at the bottom.

The author can lick my balls. No way in hell I'm paying $25 bones for VNC or paying $5 now and $20 later.
