Every city needs a local public transpo app.

I know a few have some, but I'd like Dallas DART to step up.
This!

And an option to download since you'll get no reception when you're on any subway system (although not a big deal for DART except for 1 stop :lol).

Heads up.

The "Band" app from MooCowMusic is 2 bucks for a limited time. down from 10. this app was demoed at the original SDK announcement.

I'm messing around with it now. pretty fun.

Hehe, that, our sole underground station.

Chicago eh? :)

Ah!

I would kill for a good moog sim. Hell any synth really. There seems to be quite a few panios but no synths. Also a nice drum machine would rock.

If you guys are concerned with space, I highly recommend you mess around with iTunes' Smart Playlists.

All the songs on two specific albums, a particular artist regardless of album and the remainder a random selection of songs each time you sync that you've not listened to for over month while keeping the entire play under 8GB... it will build that playlist automatically.

This is actually my first ipod or even mp3 player for that matter (yeah I know.. late to the party and all..) and playlists seem a bit bewildering to me.

Can someone walk me through setting up a playlist like the one quoted above, that just creates a random selection of songs that I haven't listened to for a week or two, and keep the size to about 8GB? That would be awesome - thanks :D

1. go to iTunes file menu and select new smart playlist.

2. from the first dropdown list, select "last played". then enter "is NOT in the last" from the second list. then select the number of days or weeks in the 3rd.

3. check the "limit to" box and choose the number of songs or MB, GB, etc for the list. you can have the songs selected randomly or have the list built from the most listened to or most recently listened to songs.

4. click OK and give it a name.

you can have a lot of fun with this if you keep your meta data clean. albums, artists, genre, rating, etc.

LCfiner - thanks very much :D

One more tard question.. What is an 'Imix'? I created my first smart playlist and when I click on it a window pops up 'Do you want to give (playlist name) as a gift or publish it as an imix?'

hmm. I've never dealt with those before. Turns out it's a playlist sharing option.

from Wikipedia:

An iMix is a user-created playlist published in the iTunes Store. iMixes were first introduced in iTunes version 4.5. Anyone can create an iMix free of charge. iMixes are limited to 100 songs and must feature content available on the iTunes Store. iMixes are public and searchable by any iTunes user. Users may also rate any iMix using a five-star system. iMixes are active for one year from their original published date. Users can publish their iTunes iMix to their blog, profile page or website such as Yahoo! 360°, Facebook, or MySpace.

ok so my damn v-moda headphones that I got with my apple credit last year just went. I lost sound out of the right earpiece.

Anyway I tried to warranty them with v-moda, but I dont have the receipt for them from apple. :(

Does anyone remember when Apple is going to release those $80 headsets that they showed at the Lets Rock conf a couple weeks back??

Also, what are some good headsets that will work with the original iPhone...

Thanks

The apple in-ear model releases in mid october.

the Ultimate Ears super.fi 4vi are supposed to be quite good. I also heard good things about the etymotic hf2.

The apple model will be cheaper than either of these and include volume controls so it might be worth waiting for (assuming that they produce good sound from their dual drivers)

I'm still waiting for an update on what functionality will work on the iPhone. You would assume the mic and call switch at least, but the fact that the iPhone is not listed as a supported device makes me nervous. And I'm still rocking an OG, will the plug fit in the recessed jack?

The plug is tiny (promo pictures are clear) and it will fit in the 2G phone just like all Apple headphones.

As for supported functionality, I'm 99.999% sure that the controls will work EXCEPT for volume as neither iPhone model has contacts for volume control from the headphone jack.

The playback commands are sure to be supported

I'm definitely assuming you're right, and that they left the iPhone off the supported devices list because it's not %100 compatible. I'll pick up a pair as soon as I see them stocked.

xcuse my ignorance but I just want to clarify. I Jailbroke my phone today and I want to know if it's still okay to sync or of I will have problems. Thanks

You're fine.

On another note, can anyone recommend some video podcasts? The only one I keep up with is Anderson Cooper's 360. I was wondering if there was a Sportscenter one but there doesn't seem to be.

Just make sure that if a future software update comes out for the iPhone that you restore before you update.

Just saw on HoFo that Beejive has been submitted to Apple:

I noticed that the screenshots they were showing on Boy Genius Report were butt-ugly, though. Not to mention that they refuse to tell us a price. :(
So for the time being:

Well, BeeJive was my favorite web-based IM client so I'm giving them the benefit of a doubt.

That said, Palringo is awesome as far as native apps go. You can do file transfers and the app even stores incoming IMs for up to 15 minutes after you close it, allowing you to resume your session and pick up where you left off.

Palringo was being accused of sending account information via plain text. I don't know if that was confirmed, though.

Why the hell can I still not receive or send pictures via text message? GRRRRRRRRR..... This is really starting to tick me off.

You're kidding right?

Fun fact: I use Adium for MSN on my Mac, and never enabled the feature to block messages from people not in my contact list. Never had to.
Within 2 days of registering with Palringo and inputting my MSN account details? I had to use Adium's privacy settings because I was getting MSN spam every 5 minutes.

So yeah, Palringo fails miserably.

You can't? Funny because I can.

After the T-Mobile press conference this morning, I guess we now know why G-mail isn't Pushed to the iPhone. :lol It's a feature on Android.

It's surprising that google would hold back a much wanted feature and make it android specific. They've been one of the more open standard providers in the past, so limiting this to android users disappoints me.

Maybe they'll add it to the iPhone soon too. But it was a feature they talked openly about on the G1. I can't imagine that it would be hard to implement on the iPhone if it's working in Android, but we'll have to wait to see. Personally, it's not a feature that I care that much about to begin with.

but wasn't g-mail pushed to the iphone before?...

i remember getting notifications for my e-mail... i think... i dunno... it's not doing it now though... lol damnit

How, exactly. I received an MMS yesterday, which linked me to some ATT viewmywireless site that doesn't load on the iPhone, and barely loads on IE without crashing it, let alone actually lets me log in to see the thing, but by then I'm not even checking it on the phone anymore...

(note, I just got this phone on the weekend, and encountered this MMS problem last night, so if there are some fancy go-arounds/apps/whatever, I haven't looked for them =P)

It is well documented that the iPhone doesn't support MMS. Why? We don't know. There is no technical reason why it shouldn't be able to.

That said, there are some apps that you can install when you jailbreak the phone to allow for the functionality. You can add it that way if it's a big deal to you.

Ehh, it's only a minor inconvenience, and probably will be an infrequent one at that. I guess I feel the same way most new users do though, which is kinda confused as to why there's no out of the box support for the feature considering MMS use is pretty widespread. Oh well, email attachments it is =P

Use SwirlyMMS to get MMS. It's free for two weeks and then $8 after.

Whats confusing me is that the google maps doesn't update along with the GPS when you make a route. When is tomtom going to release their GPS software? Or are they?

Also kind of sucks it will no longer charge off my car ipod adapter. It still plays music, but no juice! lame.

SO THAT'S WHY!!!!!!!!! ARG!!!

$15.99 for an IM client? Fuck that. I've just been using IM+ (I wasn't comfortable inputting all my account details into a third-party service like Palringo) and that works fine for when I want to jump online and send a quick IM to someone.

I just need Adium for iPhone and all will be right with the world.

What's wrong with the plug?

Electrical/heat concern I think...apparently you can just walk into an Apple store for a redesigned plug though.

If you're charging via PC then it's a non-issue since only the plug seems to be at fault.
