Plugging in your iPhone to sync is so 2007.
So what's a better way of doing it?Jtwo said:Plugging in your iPhone to sync is so 2007.
wifi? bluetooth?Vox-Pop said:So what's a better way of doing it?
Some people have other things to do than wait for a wireless sync to finish.giga said:wifi? bluetooth?
Bananakin said:Has anyone tried the mBoxMail app? It allows you to access hotmail accounts directly from your iphone/ipod touch. I was curious if it was any good. I'd really like to be able to check my hotmail account without going through Safari, but I'm not sure if it's worth $9.99.
Of course, I suspect not many people on gaf use hotmail, but you never know.

cool, that's why you offer it as an option. i'm not exactly in a big hurry when syncing my stuff and i'd gladly trade speed for the convenience of no wires.Terrell said:Some people have other things to do than wait for a wireless sync to finish.

Fixed. It's one cord.giga said:cool, that's why you offer it as an option. i'm not exactly in a big hurry when syncing my stuff and i'd gladly trade speed for the convenience of no wire.
if they allow wireless time machine backups, i see no reason why not.Terrell said:Fixed. It's one cord.
And I think it's done to prevent corruption of transmitted data. A network drop or Bluetooth interference and there's a risk of a borked audio file or piece of data that causes app crashing, or worse. It's not that it can't be done, it's likely that there's a risk involved.
Because a backup won't run the risk of rendering a device unusable without a reformat, maybe?giga said:if they allow wireless time machine backups, i see no reason why not.
how so? i could restore a corrupt file with time machine or even my entire system.Terrell said:Because a backup won't run the risk of rendering a device unusable without a reformat, maybe?
Do you need to restore your computer's files every day? No.giga said:how so? i could restore a corrupt file with time machine or even my entire system.
who says i sync everyday?Terrell said:Do you need to restore your computer's files every day? No.
Does Time Machine ask you to re-do your backups if they become corrupt? Yes.
Do you use an iPhone every day? YES.
If it's borked and needs to be reformatted because a sync borked it, would you be pissed and cursing Apple's name? I dunno if you would, but I'm sure the majority of Apple's customers would be.
seriously. i download apps over wifi from the app store all the time and so far i've been good. if the app fails to launch, i'll either restart the phone or just delete it and redownload it again. it doesn't require a reformat/restore.If there's such a big risk in wireless transfers (that it'll actually cause the phone to not work at all due to corrupted files), then why is Apple allowing us to mount our iphone on a PC/Mac over wifi via thirdparty apps? Or why are they allowing us to download music/apps from iTunes over wifi?
Same here....more than half the apps I have are downloaded via 3G or via wifi when I'm at home. Even if we're syncing using a wire, Apple does provide us an option to cancel that sync halfway thru, either by sliding the button on the phone or clicking on the x icon in iTunes...so you know there won't be any big risk of corrupted files when we're given those options in the first place...Love how efficient the built-in OS isgiga said:seriously. i download apps over wifi from the app store all the time and so far i've been good. if the app fails to launch, i'll either restart the phone or just delete it and redownload it again. it doesn't require a reformat/restore.
Well, anything like doing a firmware update or system restore they could either require you to plug in for. Or have a method where you download the firmware update before the phone starts the process.Terrell said:Fixed. It's one cord.

He also mentioned it doesn't hold a charge, but looking at the seller's history, he doesn't seem to know much about electronics.
If the battery is screwed, I can just desolder it and replace it since I know how to do that.

Hey all, is there any reason why a 3G iPhone would suddenly lose all cellular service? My gf's phone has said No Service since 1pm today except when she did a full restore and two bars showed up 3 seconds before going out again. At the same time, my 3G iPhone is perfectly fine.
1) Is her phone fucked?
2) Should I have her take it to an Apple store or ATT store?
Did she turn off the 3G and forget about it (check under settings/network). If not turn if off and turn it on again. If your phone is jailbroken, turn off edge and wifi and see if you can still connect - the 3G is working but the icon is just not showing. If none of those work then your 3G antenna is probably fucked.reggieandTFE said:iPhone Emergency

It's not Apple you want to blame when it comes to regional viewing restrictions.Bananakin said:Man I hate the Canadian itunes store. Absolutely terrible tv show selection. Damnit, Apple, I just want to give you money!

Check out the Top Free & Paid charts on iTunes for a consensus of sorts.JimtotheHum said:is there a list somewhere of the consensus "must have" Ipod touch apps and games....
I would look through this entire thread, but please, for the love of god, dont make me!!

I mean, did you think Apple was the reason Xbox Marketplace, PlayStation Network, Netflix, Hulu, and Youtube have lockouts on what you can get outside of the US as well?

On that note, though, I'll probably be moving to the states next year. Is it difficult to switch my itunes account to an american one?
