Until they support push e-mail, no.

Yeah, I'd take push email over push contacts/calendars any day. Since they've got this working though, I'm hoping it means that eventually push Mail will be supported through this interface too.

So, for the past few months since i've had my iPhone I haven't been able to receive picture text messages. A buddy of mine has said for months that he's sent me picture texts and I always tell him his phone is a piece of shit because I'm not getting them. Well, today I finally remembered to call my wireless provider to ask them if this was a problem on my end, or maybe I had to subscribe to something to enable this feature. The girl kinda laughed at me and said "the iPhone doesn't have picture messaging".

I told her to forgive me for assuming that a top of the line $200+ phone doesn't have a feature that most $10 phones have. I honestly did not know the iPhone couldn't do picture messaging. I never use it, so it's not a big deal to me but I'm curious, is this a hardware limitation or why can't the phone perform what appears to be such a simple task?

And here we go again :lol This thread is a merry-go-round.

Apple doesn't give a shit about MMS. It's not in the iPhone. that's all there is to it.

Thanks for the answer. Seriously, I didn't know about this at all. It's a feature I have never used on any cell phone I've owned. I know this is old news for people here but I wasn't aware and was pretty surprised when she told me that.

In canada, f@luS.

The number of people with rich email on their phones is tiny. At least with my cheap-ass friends here in Canada :lol

I'm surprised that the thread hasn't budged yet, but maybe you missed the news that Google announced its licensure of MS Exchange today and is now offering Push Contact and Calendar syncing OTA via Exchange and readily connectable in Address Book, iCal, and Google's web apps.

I had a lot of fun setting this up for myself tonight and I've gotta say, it works GREAT.

I just followed the instructions to the letter, and subsequently deleted 6 months of contacts, many of them important.. Fuuuuuuuucckkkkk

Don't do this if you are a fucking idiot like me. 6 months of contacts lost, and now I'm in Taiwan with no way of getting them back.

It really is annoying when my girlfriend sends me a picture message and I have to open a web browser and type in a stupid password to see a throwaway picture.

I bought an application called Fetch My MMS that expedites the process. Not perfect, but best there is for US AT&T.

How did you miss the multiple warning messages in both the instructions and the phone itself about all your contacts getting deleted?

Anyone here happy with their service with AT&T and their iphone? My contract with t-mobile is up and I am considering AT&T and getting the 3G, I currently have an unlocked iphone non-3G. I'm considering moving to AT&T and keeping my older unlocked phone as a backup.

I've been with AT&T for years and i've never had a problem. I sometimes go over my text limit with the basic data plan but i really like the rollover minutes feature.

from what I gather, it's really dependent on what region you live in. I hear people in SF have shitty AT&T service but other parts of the country are much better.

ATT is hit or miss for my girlfriend and I in Chicago. Call failures have been much less since the update that come late last fall, but there's still a lot of buildings and areas (like the entire block where my apartment is) where 3G doesn't come in.

I've always been frustrated by how cumbersome it is to move apps around in the iPhone / iPod OS, so I made this mockup of how I think it should be handled on iTunes. I didn't think it deserved a whole new thread so I thought I'd post it here; if it gets a good reception, maybe I'll submit it to Engadget or Gizmodo or something.

App Management within iTunes ~ concept

I really like the concept, and it was like "oh fuck!" right when it started because it seemed so obvious for iTunes to mimic the iPhone interface for pre-arrangement, but the advanced techniques like locking a position, moving more than one, and moving an entire screen seem needless and complicated. They don't feel right. I would stick to just emulating the actual iPhone interface rather than trying to improve it within a computer app.

Pretty awesome.

Apple needs to offer a better way or organizing apps now that we all have so many pages of them.

What's the gaf consensus? Do you think we're going to see other carriers (ahemverizon) pick up the iphone in the next couple years? (I beleive the at&t contract expires in 2010.)

Google am gods.

Fuck MobileMe.
It's quite frustrating because I use Exchange for my work email which means I can't use this feature. Extremely annoying. Can I set up IMAP to access my work email? I'd like to get rid of MobileMe.

Can someone tell me what I have installed that makes it so I can do a quick reply to a text. When I receive one, I don't have to exit whatever I'm doing, I can just hit reply and this comes up for a quick reply. I love it but its bothering me cause my friend wants it too.

Is anything coming for the iPhone in terms of updates that is worthy of note? Or are they doing what I suspect their doing and focussing their attention on the next iPhone update (no doubt with exclusive video recording, turn by turn GPS and push email) and leaving current iPhone owners high and dry?

The concept black iPhone looks lovely, my 2nd gen touch has the chrome backing and while it looks nice I hate it, it shows every single finger print or grain of dirt that makes contact with it, i'd prefer the device to be all one colour.

Rather tempting to buy a replace case but to open such an expensive device scares me.

I suspect that some of the features from the next iPhone will make it in to the older versions, like turn by turn GPS and push notification for aps. But all that might not happen until the new phones are out this summer.

That's a good question because right after release there seemed to be a decent number of updates with added features and we haven't anything but tweaks for a while.

As if we'd even be so lucky.

I sure hope there are some exclusive features to the new iPhone. I'm still rocking my 1st gen one and for the third iteration to be more or less the same thing with a few minor hardware additions and the same software would be disappointment. In my opinion the iPhone OS already feels antiquated. I'm not saying they should drop support of the older iPhones, but they should definitely add software features that can take advantage of the (hopefully) vastly superior hardware.

This is so wrong. On a design level, no released UIs have surpassed the iPhone (the Pre's might). I mean, generally, they're still ugly, less usable copies.

Dude.
It may be the best on the market but that doesn't mean it isn't beginning to show it's age. There better be some HUGE improvements and additions this year.

Last year we got the Appstore and while an amazing addition, it really put the spotlight on the clunkiness of the iPhone. Lack of of multitasking is inexcusable.

The new iPhone will probably be the same power as a 2nd gen touch, with some extra oomph the multi-tasking thing that's been rumoured might become true for the newer phones. I just hope if they do such things they improve the battery life, my touch goes from full to empty in about 90 minutes playing games non stop like puzzle quest, idracula or anything running at full power.

And <3 app store, everyone else is now bringing out marketplaces but I don't think they are going to hit a home run like apple have for a while. I see more iphone/touch owners then blackberry or palmtops, apple's touch being roughly the same as the iphone helps them too since people like me can afford one without a contract or selling my soul.

Help.

I've got a 16GB first generation iPod touch and the home button (the one at the bottom) suddenly stopped working today. This happened with absolutely no warning and after checking Apple's site it appears that I'm past my warranty date. Does anyone have any experience with this or am I going to have to take it to an Apple store and possibly end up paying to repair it?

Thanks for the reply. It seems here in Boston or least in my area the service with T-mobile it up or down. I have way too many dead zones in my place. My sister just switched to AT&T because she is a contractor and is on the road a lot and have had many problems with t-mobile which is why she switch. Now she is trying to get me to switch. I'm on the fence because I would love a 3G phone with 3G service, however yesterday a friend of mine told me that a new version of the iphone will be coming out this year.

Is it true will there be a new iphone introduced this year? if so, I guess I can stay out of contract with t-mobile for a while before switching, if not, then i might just go get my 3G as early as next week.

Does anyone know of any apple rumor sites that says a new iphone will be coming out soon?

Thanks

biteSMS 3.0 does this... it's not free though (there's a 20 days trial iirc)

There's still no copy and paste functionality. Can you believe that? After all this time?

Actually this Apple, makes sense sadly.
