4. Voice dial
5. Flash video support

But overall I'm much happier after today.
Flash video support isn't really a valid gripe considering no other phones that I'm aware of support flash.

New hardware come to me! I am so ready to upgrade. I just hope they go back to using a metal or aluminum back, none of this tacky plastic crap.

Black matte aluminum with 32GB. Believe!

Not really a gripe, but a want.

Apple is the innovator! :D They figured out cut/paste when I was told it didn't work with the UI.

I just did. I was wondering where all the douches were hiding.

I'm glad how this separation worked out. reasonable people in this thread. hordes of insufferable whiners in the other.

perfect.

Excellent update, they've addressed pretty much all of my requests and then some.

Probably sounds geeky but I've been thinking of ways that the apps I use will improve with iPhone OS 3.0 - I could now copy and paste a tracking number from an email into Delivery Status Touch and then receive Push notifications on its shipping status, and when clicking on it see its location on the in-app Google Maps. Some of those new developer features open a whole lot of interesting possibilities for third party apps.

Why do we want it exactly? Hulu? I'm sure they would just block it like they did with Boxee. I just don't see the point when most of the relevant video sites offer iPhone streams now, anyway. Even more, are coming, like ESPN.

Besides, you want Flash ads working in Mobile Safari? Really?

I could also see push updates getting really annoying.
Say I'm chatting with 3 or 4 people. And exit out to browse GAF for a few minutes.
Am I just going to get clobbered by the blue "close/reply" box everytime I get a new message?

Obviously, that could be fixed if you can change the preferences.. but it's something to keep in mind.

I don't really think it's just "one more thing to complain about." It's a valid concern.
Push notifications are a great solution to some apps but for an app as crucial as instant messaging -one that will no doubt get flooded with notifications it's far from perfect.

In fact it might be more annoying than it is helpful. I have push email on my phone and it doesn't get the message the instant it's sent. There is anywhere from half a second to a two second delay. When you're IMing with people a lot of times you'll get 5 or 6 messages in the span of a second (not every second obviously) but occasionally messages come in at an extremely rapid pace and I DON'T expect push notifications to deal with that gracefully at all.

I didn't expect or even hope that I would be able to have all 30 apps on my iphone open at once. But I do believe a more elegant solution could have been found. And yes, I'm a bit disappointed about it.
Agree. There should be an option to turn that off for particular apps. Even better would be to steal a trick from some jailbreak apps (Notifier and StatusNotifier to name two) where the push notification icon (with the number of new messages) is put in the status bar.

ps
NO THEMES WILL NOT BUY

* Some features and services may not be available in all areas.
* * MMS messaging is available only on iPhone 3G; fees may apply. MMS may not be available in all areas.

is AT&T going to shaft us or will this be included in their 'all you can eat data' plan?
i dont want an extra $10/month for something this basic, especially when you can get the same data via email for the other thing.

then again, they make you pay more for text messages, so "signs point to yes"

To play video sites that don't support iPhone streams? There are those here that assured me that iPhone would be such a force in the market that sites would convert.

They haven't.

MMS, and cut copy, and finally push.
I'm happy happy!

No backgrounding, but I can live with that really. Or just use the Cydia version.

Are there good quality Bluetooth stereo headphones?
I realize wireless audio is inherently not the greatest quality, but I don't mind it for portable music.

Proper Push support should deal with this quite nicely in a lot of cases! :)

Pandora can't push it's audio to me! ;)

I'm fine with Push for most everything else, but I actually did want to multitask a bit.
I'm glad I can at least surf and check email while streaming a podcast in iTunes.

Ah yeah... =(

The always-available iTunes is nice.

woot!! downloading finally, SDK is clipping at 900K/s!

The iPhone OS beta itself, though, the IPSW download isn't starting well... :/

What! I can't even log in into adc.

I have been hitting it HARD with a number of tools to keep my session alive / poke around half-loaded sites by manually invoking the JS. It's been a procedure.

So, who's ready for iFart DLC? :lol

iFart subscriptions, dude!

The Daily Fart

Fart of the Week

plus with the zero config communication APIs, you can have two iPhones automatically fart at each other, IN HARMONY, as they pass each other on the street.

The future is now, my friend.

The jealousy drips from my pores...

NDA'd I assume?

It's hard to say what inside the process is NDA'd anymore. I joined in January and I've only had to agree to normal EULA like statements. I'll play it safe and not post any screens here tonight.

Edit: Can't load fast enough...!

Holy crap! I've got it: iPhone1,1_3.0_7A238j_Restore.ipsw

So, I'm really nervous about installing this guy due to:

Apple said:
Updating devices to iPhone OS 3.0 beta software. By installing iPhone OS 3.0
beta software on your Authorized Test Devices, these Devices are permanently
“locked” into testing mode and cannot be restored to earlier versions of iPhone
OS.

Scary!

Alright I have been away most of the day and finally have a chance to catch up on this news... When is the official OS 3.0 due out? It seems from my brief skimming that my 3G will be able to upgrade to it, yes?!?

Installing. I'm fully prepared to be at an AT&T store picking up a back-up phone tonight after this completely destroys my OG iPhone.

I'm gonna wait to hear how the update works out for you before starting the install, the warning has me at 50/50 right now.

technically, once it's installed Juice can't tell you anything because of the NDA. :D

so install at your own risk.

I can officially say no more. I am a happy, happy lad!

So anyone have any experience with earbuds with a microphone?

Looking to get a good set of earbuds to use at the office to seamlessly take calls as I listen to my music.

Good/Great sound quality preferable.

Thanks in advance!

Can you give me some examples of some I should care about? I'm serious, this just isn't an issue for me. Granted, MMS isn't an issue for me either. /shrugs

Damn, spotlight is gonna be niiice.

I have to wonder though... assuming they'll release a new iPhone this summer if it will offer anything the 3G doesn't other than a more attractive body/better screen.

Also, the find your phone feature is badass. :lol :lol
