I'd upgrade my 3G for a better battery and more RAM.

The potential for the iPod Touch is more interesting. If it grows into a tablet style (and sized) device with a good book reader, I'll buy as well.

STANZA question.... I cant add any book that I have on my computer on that app :(

PDF file and Lit files are the books I have on my computer but I cant seem to add them to my iphone.

Yes I have sharing ticked, also allow anonomys sharing ticked.

I press shared books on the Iphone stanza app and it starts looking for my computer but it just keep on searching and searching no error message no nothing.

I also have my laptop running on the same WIFI account as my iphone.

so what is the problem here?

New iPhone and iPod models referenced in 3.0 beta.

iPhone 3,1 and iPod 3,1

So, since 2,1 apparently meant a new model what does 3,1 mean? Apple getting ready for the model being announced in June/July of 2010 already? :lol

I think people put too much credit into these, I'd be surprised if it was more than a simple hard-drive upgreade, matte finish, and camera upgrade this year.

You need to use the free desktop app from Stanza's website

heh, maybe iPhone 3,1 is iPhone Pro. I bet (based on the iProd item) that this is pure chaff to throw rumor mills off target.

Here's to hoping it's a 1000 dollar phone that has a 5 megapixel autofocus front facing flash camera that has 4 times the hardware strength and 4 times the memory.

I'd buy that bitch and laugh at fools with the "poor man phones" as I thrust my 9 foot cock through their eye balls.

If by a tablet you mean something that's the same size as an iPhone, and is still a phone...then sure!

Alright, so the references in the 3.0 OS mean nothing. I'm sure the new release of the iPhone that is likely to hit June/July will not have anything major. I'll stay out of the discussion, since obviously I'm a "broken record" on the topic. I'll just hold off and see what's announced down the line.

My wild guess is same processor speeds at 2nd gen touch, better camera and a new case + 32gig storage.

Only twice the price!

Would anyone know why Winterboard would not work correctly? I've had it for months yet I've never been able to get it running. Other apps work fine (Cycorder, MxTube, etc.) but nothing I do on Winterboard ever works.

don't feel down! I believe in you!

I think a "faster than 2nd gen touch" processor is super likely given the naming convention. (the 2nd gen ipod touch was called ipod 2,1)

Do you have the folder structure right?

when will there be a camera on the front that lets us Ichat video conference with other people?

AT&T can barely hold a consistent connection over 3G in most places and drops lots of calls - and you think their network will hold up to video conferencing?

A friend of a friend works at Apple and says that the next iPhone will record HD video (720p).

Don't tell anyone, though.

Doesn;t matter. Your friend that works at the Apple store knows less about Apple product releases than the people who read GAF. Apple doesn't share ANYTHING with the retail employees. Hell they don't even know when product is coming. It just shows up in crates the day before release.

However...

I wouldn't even know where to begin with that. I think I've only "explored" the directories once and I don't recall doing anything other than dumping a file onto the phone.

Var/Library/Themes/*your theme*/icons

not positive, but i think if you want to change the background/lockbackground you should just add *background* and *lockbackground to the *yourtheme* folder.

Is the CBS Sports March Madness app as good as it sounds?

Live streaming over Wi-Fi? Am I reading this right? Any impressions so far?

Question. I just got an iPhone and immediately bought a case and placed it into the case from my experiences with an iPod. I was complaining how I kept on getting air bubbles between the case and iphone which looked annoying and someone told me that the front surface was made excepectionally well and won't scratch.

What's the truth to this? Should I at least remove the front plastic of the case and only protect the back?

I use no case whatsoever and while the back has incurred some scratching and general wear and tear, the glass surface is flawless. That's just one guy's experience, but I can say that it's incredibly scratch-resistant.

Regardless, we all know something new is coming, and it'll have some upgrades to it. And I tend to skip a generation or so anyway, I'll be ready for the upgrade when it comes having passed on the 3G. All I'm saying is that hidden stuff in the OS, like the discovery of the "Upload Video" option, give us some indications of what is in the works.
The question is "when"? Sure, we're due for a significant upgrade, all the evidence points to it, but there's no hard evidence to suggest that, even with test hardware showing up as "iPhone2,1", this significant upgrade is coming to us this summer.
I stick by my claim that Apple's gonna roll out the big guns for Q1-Q2 2010, to bring us the LTE model with the hottest hardware and a potential new US carrier.

The screen is extremely durable. I bought my iPhone 3G at launch and haven't used a case yet I don't have any scratches on mine.

Here are some videos (they're of the first iPhone but it should be the same):

I have a launch first-generation iPhone. I carry it in my pocket with my earbuds all day every day, I've dropped it on pavement three times, I've never used a case or shell, and the screen is still scratch-free.

Has anyone had problems transferring specific songs (or in my case, specific podcasts) to the iPhone / iPod touch?

For example, I have not been able to transfer over the latest Giant Bombcast episode (3/17), while all the other ones are fine. Similarly, I have not been able to ever transfer over Trance Around the World #250, while all other episodes have been fine.

Other podcasts still seem to be updating, and it's not a space thing. The sync screen briefly flashes on the iPod and then disappears. I'm doing all song management manually, if that helps.

At least your predictions are closer to reality this time.

We are getting hardware bumps this summer by the way, it's a lock, it just depends on what your definition of significant is.

what i dont understand is with the popularity of the phone, why don't apple just make it unlocked, or at least available on all carriers? the razr did it after it took off and became the de facto phone for most people because it was everywhere. is it a support issue (multiple carriers, multiple configs, etc) or is it because they money they get for exclusivity is potentially that much lucrative than increased phone sales and itunes revenue?

By the way, did you add the lit and pdf files to the stanza desktop app and save it in the .epub format? Did that work correctly?

Chicago Gaffers, have you been having 3G issues for the last month? Safari rarely loads on 3G, and if it does, it's for maybe 30 seconds.

I have a first gen EDGE phone, but am located in Chicago and have been having intermittent connectivity problems, especially with Safari. It wasn't always this problematic. I don't know what the issue is though.

They signed an exclusivity contract with AT&T, so they can't branch out to other carriers until 2010 (I think thats when it's over)

I just realised how amazingly thin the 2nd gen touch is to the iPhone, it's impressive.

Is the 3G the same size as the original iPhone or is it slightly slimmer?

Thicker, but tapered more so you can't notice.

The iPod Touch changed from 1,1 to 2,1 and the changes in hardware were minimal. The change to 3,1 may mean something or it may not, but you've brought it up referring to the iPhone dozens of times.

I had question, I had maxed out the screens with apps and since then have deleted a bunch and now have a bunch of empty spots on each page. Is there a way to have it push everything forward so it reduces the pages and there's no blank holes? Or do I have to manually move the icons one by one?

manually move each one. however i think if you move say all the icons from page 2 to page 1, page 3 would move to page 2.

You have to move them manually. Pages that are blank get automatically deleted I believe so you don't worry about moving them in order (2,3,4 etc). That's one thing I hope gets improved (either via iTunes or iPhone) an easier way to manage the homescreens.

Ugh, what a pain in the ass... They should add that to a firmware update.

Because most carriers refused to play by Apple's tune and wanted to dictate too much of what they could do to it, which goes against Apple's policy of the device being the same no matter where you are in the world. This can be evidenced in the slightly public debacle Apple had trying to find a partner for the phone in Japan and China. Also, companies who signed for the original model got the luxury of exclusivity contracts.

How long have you had these issues? It's going on close to 2 months for me...

Took my iphone to the app store today, it had been broken for a week or two, found out that somehow, the logic board got fucking water on it, and thats not covered under warranty.

Anyone know any good places to get this shit repaired, I really don't want to pay 180 something dollars to void a warranty on a broken phone, and I'm not trying to buy a new one for 400 dollars either (When I originally got it for 200).

Edit : I can also just upgrade my moms phone, and get the 200 dollar discount again, but she was saving that, and I really think it would be a pain in the ass to have to use two fucking plans for one phone.

I opened the file with the stanza desktop and keept it on and then I switch on the phone and use the stanza to search nothing comes up..

I did NOT save anything in the stanza desktop program... do I have to do that??
