I just noticed something weird, but maybe thats just me.

When you take a photo on the 3GS in landscape mode, the image has black borders and the left and right edges when you view it. However, take a picture in portrait mode and view the image, it fills the entire screen.

Anyone know why this is, seems a little odd.

I'm really trying to keep myself from jailbreaking my 3Gs right now... I'm trying to convince myself that I should wait for the dev team release. Should I? Or is purple rain the bees knees?
purplera1n has been perfect for me so far. do it!

Ok I haven't upgraded my firmware in forever, I'm on 2.1 (5F136) with a 2G iPhone, and i used winpwn or something when I last did this, but since 3.0 is out figured it's time to update, plus my iphone just did the thing where it deletes all the songs off the phone out of nowhere but doesn't clear the storage space

Now it seems like things have changed significantly since I last did this, checked out the dev blog, and there is a lot of talk about yellow sn0w, red sn0w, ultra sn0w ect..Also since my last time jailbreaking/unlock it seems that apple had put in something about a baseband block that prevents you from ever unlocking your iphone again

if any of my fellow GAF iPhone owners have a decent knowledge about this, can you point me or help me in this process it would be appreciated

also a friend at work is upgrading from the 3G to the 3G S and has offered to sell me his 3G for $200, which im very tempted to do, but if he has upgraded his firmware to 3.0 already does that mean I won't be able to unlock it due to the baseband thing I mentioned earlier?

After a week of swapping iPhones, I'm really left wondering about the overall variance between units.

1st iPhone - Best screen, but still had a stuck pixel that could not be fixed. Battery got very warm and ran out quickly.

1st iPhone w/ replaced screen - Small cluster of bright white pixels in the middle. Screen seemed cooler in color, similar to an iPod Touch. Battery seemed mildy improved with new screen.

2nd iPhone - A few stuck pixels that were fixed (save for one pulsating bastard), plus LCD bleeding problems. Battery got very warm and ran out quickly...but not as fast as the first.

3rd iPhone - Numerous stuck pixels that were fixed (save for a dimly lit offender). Battery lasts far longer than the first two units, and barely gets warm...even when running an App while charging.

At this point, I'm just sticking with the model I've got now. I had an appointment for Monday, but I'm sick and tired of driving to the mall every other day to get a replacement with similar (or worse) issues. One customer at the Apple Store even had a unit that had sharp edges on the metal exterior, and the glass wasn't even flush with the edge.

This is a real quality control failure.

You intend to use a 3GS on T-mobile's Edge network?! Blasphemy :lol
I'm usually around a wifi signal so it's not a big deal to me. I don't think 3G is worth the price hike, personally. I only pay $6/mo for my unlimited EDGE data :D

Just finished :D Love the speed difference over my 3G in Cydia. I had problems with Vista 64, but I ran it on my laptop with XP and it worked perfectly for me.

all the apps work fine on the t-zone's plan? thought you had to get the smartphone data plan for it to work

Oh come on...I just wish their QC was better on the initial batch. Have you been to an Apple Store lately?

I think your store must have gotten a bad batch or something, because there has not been any widespread reports of these kinds of issues. Even the reports of overheating proved to be way overblown.

Hey guys, just applied the jailbrake treatment to my iPhone 3GS, and so far so good!

I tried putting in "Lock Screen Info" in Cydia but I didn't get results back for this application. Can someone please let me know the real name of the application featured in the above image or something similar. I found Intelliscreen, but it isn't as clean as the picture above.

Thanks.

If you do jailbreak again, search for ActivateMMS2G in Cydia if you want that feature. Apple unnecessarily crippling its hardware again *shrug*
Ah, I won a bet with someone. Thanks. :)

If you change your home location (or reset it to the same one as before) you can get the adult content settings again, but you can't save any changes. How fucking lame.

Has anyone else seen the Verizon ad currently running for the the LGs showcasing their ability to run apps? How quaint. :lol

Yeah, I've seen that a few times. I wondered how many of those apps actually exist when they show them flying in the background. They make it look like they have thousands. Anyone know how many they actually have? I mean, even the Pre doesn't have many yet and are waiting for the SDK to drop. :lol

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if there was some creative deception going on there, like multiple iterations of the same app when the gallery of them quickly shoots by at the end. In reality probably the small handful of apps they actually show (Need for Speed, Twitter, golf range-finder) are all you can actually get right now :lol

Is Freeze supposed to stay on the iPhone even after installing Cydia w/ purplera1n or am I missing something? lol
Download CyDelete from Cydia
go into iPhone settings and find CyDelete
turn Non-Cydia App Deletion ON
Delete the Freeze icon
Turn Non-Cydia App Deletion OFF

What am I missing from the idea that we need push Twitter apps? I've seen a few requests like this, but I don't get it. Twitter can send you SMS alerts, so what's the difference?

I wouldn't mind having a badge update the app icon with unread tweets before opening it up.

or having a notification pop up if a certain person updates without having to use SMS.\\not a huge deal but it would be a nice little update.

Exactly what I was thinking. I've never looked at the app gallery real close at the end, but they sure make it seem like those phones have the same number of options as the App Store. They're not quite saying "There's an App for that!" but they make it sound like they have tons.

According to Apple(?) the overheating was caused the by cases or the weather or something. Anyway somebody is taking it seriously :lol

Yeah, you'll need Winterboard for it to work, and that hasn't been fixed yet by the purplera1n jailbreak (one of the few reasons to wait for the dev-team tool). I wouldn't recommend Intelliscreen longer term as it's a deamon as opposed to the springboard plugin that Lockscreen info ultimately is. Lockscreen info is still in beta ("almost out") and to find it right now on cydia you'll have to add http://david.ashman.com/beta/ to your sources to download.

I'm amazed they're allowed to get away with that kind of stuff but I guess all kinds of bullshit is allowed in US TV advertising. I guess it's okay to present unrealistic and in some cases outright faked representations of what the device is actually capable of so long as you flash "screen images simulated" in microscopic type at the bottom of the screen for a quarter-second.

And yes, I know Apple does this too.

I've been through phones from two different shipments. Each one has had stuck pixels. While at the Apple Store, I was in line with many 3GS owners who were experiencing similar issues. I know this is anecdotal, but it's not like I'm conducting some sort of study.

Regardless, I'm sticking with the one I have now. Battery doesn't get warm and lasts longer than the other two I had.

Really? It seemed like Apple's explanation was really crappy. Is there some sort of news story that I missed?

Authorities added that it was "just sheer luck" that the toddler who was also left in the car was unconscious at the time, as otherwise he could have potentially damaged the iPhone

:lol

I won't deny the "weather explanation" is pretty silly. But after the initial reports came out last week about overheating, I read another report the next day (can't find the link) that said that the images of the overheating screen shot were from two months before the 3GS was released.

And if we want to go on anecdotal evidence, I have a 3GS as do four of my friends, and noe of us has had a single issue with it, including overheating, stuck pixels, sharp edges, and so on. One of us has a white one, and it's no discolored in anyway either.

Yeah, I posted about this a little while ago. The best part is their apps are crappy looking cellphone apps (Java? brew? whatever) not specifically developed for those phones (env + env touch) anyway. The next best thing? Every app has a subscription fee. Weatherbug is 2.99/month. eBay is 2.99/month. That Golf app on the commercial? $40 for a year.

"Life's Good" on Verizon, huh.

edit: I've Yahoo'd it (:lol Yahoo for life!) and have gotten some laughs out of forum discussions where enV users ask where the cool apps are and that there's definitely a ton coming, etc. As if it's something to be legitimately excited about.

LOL, that is absolutely unbelievable.

Wikipedia and eBay apps on iPhone = free forever

Wikipedia and eBay apps on Verizon phones - $2.99/$3.99 per month

iPhone itself = priceless :lol

I just did a Google search (Sorry! ;) ) and it's even sillier than I thought. They're saying that they are just the normal "Get it Now" apps, and there really isn't anything special about them at all.

One person said a week after release there was only one new "app" added to the store, and yeah, jonnybryce is right, they all have monthly fees. It's ridiculous. :lol

Apparently one of the forum's top contributors makes some rather critical comments (but still quite reasonable) about Verizon and their lack of Apps, and gets his post edited by a moderator. How classy.

Yeah, that's the same thread I found when I googled. Gives you a quick idea of what's going down with these "apps". :lol

Here's another thread: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r22521997-LG-enV-Touch-Apps

You only need to read the first few posts to get the idea. People talking about taking the phone back within the first two or three days.
