I think so. When I first run Cydia, some message appears and says that it's reorganizing or some shit like that and that it will close the app after it's done. And then I think I'm good to go, no?

But whatever. Thanks for the help though.
EVERY time Cydia loads up it'll cycle through things like Reloading Data, and Downloading Packages. I've figured out that if you wait for all of that to finish (usually like 30 seconds) you'll never really run into any problems.

Ok, I'll give it one more try.

Restoring right now =|

Apple Bans Developer with 800+ Apps from App Store
posted by Marianne Schultz on Tuesday August 04, 2009 03:39 PM

MobileCrunch has reported that Apple has banned developer Khalid Shaikh from the App Store and removed all 800+ of his apps that were being sold in the App Store. Apple's "Notice of Termination" e-mail to Shaikh describes that third-party intellectual property complaints are the impetus behind the banning:

Pursuant to Section 3.2(d) of the iDP Agreement, you agreed that "to the best of Your knowledge and belief, Your Application and Licensed Application Information do not and will not violate, misappropriate, or infringe any Apple or third party copyrights, trademarks, rights of privacy and publicity, trade secrets, patents, or other proprietary or legal rights (e.g. musical composition or performance rights, video rights, photography or image rights, logo rights, third party data rights, etc. for content and materials that may be included in Your Application)." Apple has informed you of numerous third party intellectual property complaints concerning over 100 of your Applications and reminded you of your obligations to obtain the necessary rights prior to submission of your Applications. Nevertheless, we continue to receive the same or similar types of complaints regarding your Applications despite our repeated notices to you. The persistent nature of such complaints has led us to conclude that you are entering into the representations and warranties in the iDP Agreement in bad faith by misrepresenting that you have all the necessary rights for your submissions.

As the MobileCrunch article points out, a search at AppShopper.com shows 854 apps by Shaikh. The majority of Shaikh's apps seemed to simply pulled data on a specific subject from the web without providing any other original or unique content. Most apps were priced at $4.99 and this banishment could represent lost sales of thousands of dollars per day. Shaikh reportedly has admitted that the goal was not to produce valuable apps but to focus on monetization instead. All of Shaikh's apps have already been removed from the App Store and can no longer be purchased.

The App Store policies and approval process have been under quite a bit of fire lately, most notably with the rejection of the official Google Voice app, as well as the removal of 3rd-party Google Voice apps from the App Store in recent weeks. Apple has been tight-lipped with the public about such rejections though some affected developers have publicized their communications with Apple and spoken openly of their opinions of App Store practices.

I say good riddance.

I hope this is a sign that Apple are going to move forward with tighter controls for some things. Then again, maybe it's just an extreme, isolated case.

Wow.

I do hope they clean more stuff like that up.
I'm guessing it's a once off. 800 apps is a lot. APple can't really arbitrarily ban a developer. IRonic that they can arbitrarily remove apps though.

I could do without the FartApp and that other bullshit too.

Finding quality apps like AwesomeNote is relatively hard and seeing dumb fratboy liverspoiling and fingerpulling bullshit apps is really polluting the culture. I don't want censorship but I definitely don't want it on Page 1 of the App Store, etc.

Speaking of AwesomeNote, there's a totally awesome update coming soon. It's awaiting approval:

Wow... Awesome Note looks... well... awesome.

One tiny update on my part - updated the little x that shows up to allow you to delete apps: :D (A little blurry cuz the icons are jiggling).

Have you restarted your phone?

Wife's 3G display has suddenly gone white and won't come back. Though she can still answer calls. sigh

IIRC, you can only get iPhone tech support/exchanges at an Apple Store. ATT Stores won't help, correct?

yes, same thing..it will launch Cydia, pop up the "Loading Data" for about 3 seconds then back to the main screen, then if I hit Cydia again it just starts to bring it up and closes it right away

What I did (some things obvious, some not):

- The Voice Memo background screen is simply a blurred out version of the home page wallpaper - makes the transition into and out of Voice Memo pretty smooth looking
- Changed the dialpad screen - still not totally happy with it - will keep working on it.
- For the homepage background, I took the background from the Matte Nano theme, made it gold-ish, and added the Triforce and flourishes between the rows
- Took out the labels for the non-docked items, and went with the smaller icon approach of the Matte Nano theme
- Changed the dots showing which screen you're on into gold hearts (I like hearts, apparently)
- For the docked icons, I started with the icons provided in another theme and made them gold-looking
- The bird in the upper left corner is the bird that transports link around in A Link to the Past - it represents when the phone is in Airplane Mode
- Changed the lock screen to match the home screen wallpaper a bit more, changed the flourish around the Triforce Emblem, shrank the emblem itself as well (the key looks even more out of place to me now - I'll see what I can change it to)
- The battery charging screen is unchanged - I just like it.
:D
Can you please share that Triforce background in the first shot?

Well I'm about to get rid of the clunker, 2G. I found someone who is going to sell me their 3G for $50. The screen is cracked and at first I was going to replace it with this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200359226733&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

But since the glass is only broken, I'm getting this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/iPhone-3G-Outer...ries?hash=item2a003a3069&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Anybody have trouble with their broken glass? What did they replace it with?

I've replaced a broken screen once on an iPhone (it was fairly easy) but the person I did it for bought the replacement already. I;m not sure where he got his,

Well apple is at it again. Requiring a dictionary app to be rated 17+ and—even at that rating—requiring that certain words in the dictionary be censored. And of course, there are plenty older, crappier dictionary apps that have no such restrictions on them that were approved ages ago that still exist in the store today.

That ebay one will be a cheap made in china knock off. It definately will not be the same quality as the original, and will probably scratch easily.

You could buy an original replacement here:

Wordbook is pretty good. One of the best features is that you can set up to 5 webpages so when you hit a button it looks up the word on another source such as dictionary.com - and I just added wikitionary to that list. Hooray!

Wordnet's not that bad is it?

It happened to me, what i did is i backed up the phone in itunes and restore it and jailbroke. There is a apt called PKGBackup in Cydia that will backup all your cydia stuff. I did that also before restoring and it worked.
Guys i recommend getting Yourtube, its the best cydia app period. It adds some cool features to the Youtube app. Like lets you DL the videos on the phone, i know MXtube does it but i like the fact i can log in with my YT account and comment on videos. Also MXtube only seaches thru the mobile version of YT while the original YT app seaching thru the real YT.

Well here is my THEME is called Illumine. Its on Cydia.

Jailbreaking lets you do 4 things I can't live without:

1) Hide shitty apps you don't use
2) Disable the phone from ever rotating the screen
3) Download MP3s through Safari, and play them back through a music app, to get around their stupid 10mb podcast file restriction.
4) Put more info in the status bar; icon for unread mail, battery percentage, etc.

There's really no reason to not do it, my 3.0 jailbreak went incredibly easily.

MORE REASONS TO JB and my fav to FUCK APPLE IN THE ASS FOR CRIPPLING MY PHONE>:lol :lol :lol
5.) With Yourtube app lets you DL videos in youtube app to ur phone.
6.) Tether ur phone.
7.) Theme up ur phone.
8.) Add a 5 icon on dock
9.) Add a 5 row on springboard
10.) Add a 5 column on springboard
11. Take icon labels out.
12. Play emulation
13. Trick phone on thinking its on WIFI (slingbox, HQ video on U tube, DL over 10 meg APP store, Skype)

Good. Glad you're diggin' it. :D

Right now, it's killer, but with the future updates it's going the an app of legends. I'm very excited.

I just hope he can add phone number and email support. So when i click in it, it makes a call and email. Also want to add photos like a pdf file.

Yeah, image support is my #2 most anticipated feature, only superseded by the "To-Do" checkboxes with the ability for it to be either a "Quick Memo" or a full Folder.

Some new themes would be nice too. :)

A couple of them are real stinkers.
It would be nice if there was scalable-background ones to simulate college-rule paper, notepad paper, etc. as well and I think it'd be sweet if there were swappable color themes for the folders. Something real simple and streamlined but allow for customization.

But yeah, best $4 I've spent in the App Store.

i wish there was an application that turned the status bar into a dropdown menu like in android. Using my friends phone the other day I really liked that feature...

What is with all these apps that add color coded group folders to the Apple original and sell shit loads :p

Yeah, it look awesome -- compared to Notes. But I rarely use that, instead I'm looking for a replacement for a notepad that I carry around. Yet there isn't one awesome app with handwriting recognition :(

To be honest I can't imagine handwriting on the iPhone being that great, what with the absence of a stylus and all. I don't think I could fit more than 2 characters at a time on the screen with my fingers. Maybe 3.

Is there any way of increasing the time the phone shuts off when in standby? Like when I take the phone out of standby it goes to a black screen pretty quickly, whether or not I'm using LockscreenInfo (I think the setting is in Settings)

This has really turned into a thread about jailbreaking, hasn't it? It's like an official console thread turning into chat about homebrew and custom firmware.
